On the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, the United States joins Taiwan to celebrate the diversity that Indigenous peoples contribute in many different spheres, including culture, art, and sports. As part of our many shared values, the United States and Taiwan work on fostering equal opportunities and expanding genuine participation for Indigenous peoples. AIT Deputy Political Chief Evan Morrisey attended a conference hosted by Council of Indigenous Peoples Minister Icyang Parod on Taiwan’s 8/1 Indigenous Peoples’ Day to show U.S. support and respect for Indigenous peoples. Did you know 13 of Taiwan’s 68 athletes who competed in the Tokyo Olympics are indigenous? Many of them had brilliant performances in the Olympic games and became medalists.
