ホンダ・RVF(アールブイエフ)とは、ホンダ・レーシングが開発した水冷4ストロークV型4気筒エンジン搭載のオートバイであり、当初は競技専用車両として開発されていたが、後に本田技研工業から一般市販車として製造販売された。
開発の経緯
RVF400とは、全日本ロードレース選手権TT-F3クラスで活躍した競技専用車両である。競技規則により市販車両のVF400Fをベース車両にはしているが、ホンダがワークス体制で投入したこのマシンはレギュレーションをクリアするエンジンブロックなど最低限のもの以外はフレームなど全くの別物であり、搭乗したのもHRC契約ライダーの山本陽一など。結果、圧倒的な強さを見せつけ1985年、1986年シーズンを連覇。
1986年7月には、RVF400と同様のHRCトリコロールのカラーリングを施した特別仕様のVFR400R(NC21)を発売。翌1987年2月発売のVFR400R(NC24)ではカタログのモデルに山本を起用するなど、広告塔としての役割もあった。
