Your average person will think the idea of "universal income" is idiotic. But it's been done in other countries.
And here's the thing that he doesn't mention.
Imagine you're on welfare. The government gives you enough money to get by....but only barely. So if you want to buy something nice...you need to steal it or steal some money....etc.
And if you get a part time job that pays LESS than your welfare checks.....then they just deduct what you EARN from the welfare. Which means once you are on welfare you get PUNISHED for working a job....unless that job pays more than the welfare. And if it only pays a bit more? Well now you just went from zero hours a week to 40 for a "bit more" money. Not much incentive.
But.....if you got welfare......and then once you got a job you could ALSO keep the welfare. Well then....everyone on welfare would be out trying to find jobs and improve themselves.
My mom was on welfare. She sold Avon on the side. Someone reported her to welfare. I remember coming home to her crying.
Universal income would fix a lot of things. Poorer countries have done it.
