The kids were in for a surprise when I told them that we were going for a walk in our neighbourhood late tonight. Asher had made a lantern in school and he was so excited to bring it out! Little did they know that I had also secretly brought along some sparklers so that they could continue this yearly tradition of ours. You can imagine their smiles when I said "Ta-dah" and presented them with the boxes of sparklers, yippee!

We made our way to a pavilion and were pleasantly surprised to see that there was nobody there. Well, we even brought along some chrysanthemum tea and red pomelo - the kids helped me to peel it at home - to enjoy too, nice right? It was my first time celebrating this night with four kids on my own and we loved seeing how the baby was amused and happy with everything going on. Hop to my IG to see his expression and also check out how the kids raced and even put on a dance performance, woohoo.

It might be 9 days to PSLE written exams but I am so glad we took tonight off to relax, enjoy and remind ourselves of what is important in life. I told the big girl that I would be proud of her no matter what and her happiness matters the most to me.

Ariel said "Thank you, Mama, for always celebrating these occasions with us." Awwww. It was such a simple gesture yet the memories made are so precious and our hearts are full tonight.

P.S. We looked up at the sky and said "Hello" to Popo whom we believe is now a star shining down on us. I used my sparkler to write the letters "I❤U" and hope she knows that, even the kids said "We miss you, Tai Po". And we always will. Family is truly everything.

We decided to get a breath of fresh air this afternoon after staying home for most of the past 10 days. Since the weather forecast said there was going to be a thunderstorm, we reckoned it would be quite deserted here and we were right.

Yup, while we are staying away from crowded places like shopping malls for the time being, we hope to continue doing what we love to do as a family - explore nature parks!

This was our first visit to Chestnut Nature Park and we had a good workout as we hunted for wildlife. We spotted ants, grasshoppers, millipedes, skinks, macaques, spiders, snails, fishes, birds, squirrels and...... see the last pic for the highlight of our visit. Can you spot it? Hint: It is green in colour.

Not surprisingly, the kids whined a little, especially when ants crawled onto our legs. A couple of them fell down, one threw tantrum and there were bickers here and there too. But other than that, we were really thankful to take a walk in the park and they were always excited whenever they spotted a creature. We also crossed a bridge and walked over a stream, and it was so quiet that we could hear the rushing water, calling of birds and chirping of insects.

This was the only group photo we took along the nature trail. Even though it was deserted and we were basically on our own, we still walked in pairs (6 of us made 3 pairs!), kept a distance and had our masks on most of the time. We walked around 3km today and I think that is a good achievement with 3 kids and a 3-month-old baby. Haha. Thankfully, it didn't rain yet when we left so the weather was perfect during our trip.

HBL resumes tomorrow and it stretches till mid June for me because the boy will continue to have his K2 lessons virtually. While we are still happy to stay home, an outdoor walk truly does wonders to rejuvenate our minds and I appreciate it lots. Grateful for today.

长大了。

This was when the big girl first became a 姐姐 in 2012. In two months' time, she will become a big sister for the third time and she has proudly exclaimed "小弟 will be born in the Year of the Ox like me!"

You know, she was the one I was most worried about when I first knew I was pregnant. Being the most mature and eldest one, I didn't know if she would welcome the news and be thankful to have another sibling now that she is already a tween. Thankfully, she reacted in a most positive way and immediately did a book to list down possible names for the baby. Yup, this girl is feeling truly excited as we look forward to the big day.

It's also her who gives me the assurance that everything will be all right as we expand from three to four kids because like me, she is fiercely independent. She insists that we still won't need a helper and knowing how I don't like to depend on others even though I solo parent five days a week, not even the grandparents, she tells me that we will be able to do it and she can help me to look after the younger ones too.

The other day, I took them out to a neighhourhood mall for dinner. When the food had arrived and we had settled down, I realised to my dismay that I had forgotten to bring out my blood test kit, which I had to use to check my glucose level before eating. Without hesitation, she told me "I can go home to get it for you." And so she did, and I let her. It was over a 10-min walk to go home and she would have to come back to the mall herself. So armed with her TT token, house keys and courage, she did it and came back safely in 20 minutes, with a smile and a mighty sense of achievement. It was her first time doing it, likely the start of many, and a reminder for me that it's time to let go while feeling thankful to witness how she has grown and blossomed.

We will surely continue to have many obstacles ahead of us - I can't tell you how much backtalking and arguments we have too - but today, I give thanks to this girl, for being what I could never have been and more. You are a wonderful daughter and big sister and it's because of you that I have become happier, braver and stronger than before. ❤

This is officially going to be our last vlog of 2016. It's quite bittersweet as I type this. What an awesome year it’s been. 2016 was the year we moved into our dream house, visited the 2 schools we built together, toured Asia, raised more money to build 3 more schools, launched my signature eyeshadow palette and now in process of writing my own book. It’s been jam packed with opportunities and has probably been my busiest year yet. Couldn't have done it without you all by my side. Thank you for sticking by the Bubz family for yet another year.

I’m not proud to say I have been a bit of a grinch during the holidays. Unfortunately, I don’t handle well being around big crowds for long periods of time. I end up extremely emotional and I guess I “malfunction” by acting strange. It also meant that the littlest of things would get to me and guess who I took it all out on? Yep, poor Tim. Turns out being out of the house for the day was exactly what I needed to recharge. I took it as him kicking me out so I was mad at him at the time.

I stormed out and forgot to bring my keys and the day after, I was wondering how I return with dignity since I needed him to open the door for me. I realised I had been over dramatic. In the end, I swallowed my big fat pride and just apologised for my poor attitude over the holidays. He did too for retaliating. We realised the price of being right is too big to pay. Tim is happy to have his happy wife back. I’m disappointed at myself for being such a Debbie Downer over the holidays but I made sure to spend the remaining days of 2016 chirpy and grateful again.

We’re not doing much for New Years Eve. We're just going to be chilling at home as a family. We want to take this moment to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!! May 2017 be another year to walk in love, gratitude and kindness. Remember, a positive mind brings a positive life. Always be hopeful.
