Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture.
One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. And I climb 404 steps up to the tower to have the 360 degree view of the city. And evening we had dinner at Trattoria Omera restaurant since 1943 on San Niccolò hill to have enchanting night view.

How the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore was built is a puzzle that even experts today can't fully understand. The base of the dome is a imprecise octagon with no true center. Without using any central supporting system, there are many theories of how Filippo Brunelleschi -the architect who had no formal architectural training- eventually made the eight faces of the dome met precisely at the top. And 600 years later, the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore is still the largest masonry dome in the world.
