「Really?」だけじゃない、「マジで？」を意味する英表現

ありえないような話を聞いて驚いた時、「ホントに!?」「マジで？」「ありえない！」などと返答すると思いますが、皆さんは英語で「Really?」ばかり使っていませんか？もちろんそれでもいいんですが、今回は「ホントに!?」のリアクションがワンパターン化してしまっている人のために、ネイティブが普段使う「マジで？」をいくつかご紹介したいと思います。

1) Seriously? / Are you serious?
→「マジで？」

「マジ」という表現は「真面目」という表現から派生している単語で、英語も同様、 「Are you serious?（真面目な話をしているの？）」の省略した言い方が「Seriously?」になります。日常会話では「Are you serious?」と「Seriously?」の両方が使われ、どちらを使ってもOKです。この表現は、友達同士の間で頻繁に使われるカジュアルな表現ですが、ビジネスの場でも失礼なく使える言い方です。ビジネスの場であれば、「本当ですか？」、友達同士であれば、「マジで？」と訳すことができます。
　
✔本当にびっくりした時、または相手の発言を疑う時に「You can't be serious（冗談でしょう）」が使われる。「Seriously?」をより強調した言い方。
　
＜例文＞
　
〜会話例１〜

A: Did you hear that Amuro Namie is going to retire?
（安室奈美恵が引退するって聞いた？）

B: Seriously? I'm so sad. I'm a huge fan of hers.
（マジで？超悲しい。彼女の大ファンなんだ。）
　
〜会話例２〜

A: Good news! We closed the deal with Rakuten just now.
（良いニュースがあります！先ほど、楽天と契約を結びました。）

B: Are you serious? I can't believe it!
（本当ですか？信じられないです。）
　
〜会話例３〜

A: My sister got in a car accident yesterday.
（昨日妹が事故にあったの。）

B: Seriously? Is she OK?

2) For real?
→「（口語っぽい）マジで？」

Realという言葉は「本当」という意味であり、「For real？」は「本当に？・マジで」という意味合いになります。この「For real?」はどちらかというと若者が使う言い方で、ビジネスやフォーマルな場では適切ではありません。また、さらにカジュアルにスラングっぽく言いたい場合は、realのあとに「s」を付け加え「for reals?」と言えば、より口語っぽい響きになります。
　
✔その他、「Really?（本当に？・マジで）」も日常的に使われる言い方だが、友達同士に限らず、フォーマルな場で使ってもOK。
　
✔「まさか！」「そんなバカな！」を表す口語表現が「Get out of here!」日常会話では「Get outta here」と発音するのが一般的。

A: I got caught cheating on a test again.
（カンニングしてるのがまたバレちゃったよ。）

B: For real? Isn’t that the 3rd time?
（マジで？もう３回目じゃない？）

A: You're not going to believe it. My brother is getting married.
（信じられないかもしれないけど、実は弟が結婚するんだ。）

B: For reals? That’s awesome!
（マジで？おめでとう！）

A: I picked up these Ray-Ban sunglasses for only twenty bucks.
（このRay-Banのサングラス20ドルで買ったんだ。）

B: Get out of here.
（まさか、そんなわけないだろう。）

A: Nah, I'm serious. I bought them online. They were on sale.
（いや、マジだって。ネットで買ったんだ。セールになっててさ。）

B: For real? Are you sure they're not a fake?
（マジで？それ偽物じゃないの？）

3) No way
→「マジで？」

No wayを直訳すると「絶対にない」になり、日本語の「あり得ない」に相当します。あまりにも驚くような信じられない話を聞いた時や、耳を疑うようなあり得ないことを聞いた時に「No way!」と言います。目を丸くしながら「NO WAAAYYY!」と叫ぶ姿が典型的なアメリカンスタイルの言い方です（笑）
　
✔その他、信じられないことをより強調したい場合、「Are you kidding? / You're kidding me / You've got to be kidding me（冗談だろ？！）」が使われる。「No way」と組み合わせて使われることがしばしばある。
　
＜例文＞
　
〜会話例１〜

A: Oh my god! He just hit a game ending grand slam.
（うわ！彼、逆転サヨナラ満塁ホームランを打ったよ。）

B: What? You've got to be kidding me. No way! That's crazy.
（えー！冗談だろ？マジで？すげー！）
　
〜会話例２〜

A: I just ran into my ex-girlfriend at Starbucks.
（さっきスタバで元カノにばったり会っちゃった。）

B: No way! Did you talk to her? You guys broke up on bad terms right?
（マジで？話したの？確かよくない別れ方したんだよね。）
　
〜会話例３〜

A: I heard that Sally and Johnny broke up.
（サリーとジョニーが別れたらしいよ。）

B: No way! They seemed like the perfect couple.

4) _____ over small things
→「つまらないことで〜」

どうでもいいことで喧嘩をしたり、カッとなったり、くよくよしたりすることを表す表現が「_____ over small things」です。「Small things」を直訳すると「小さな事」になり、極めて重要性が低いことやバカバカしいこと、大して価値がないことについて感情的になることを意味します。
　
✔日常会話では「_____ over nothing（どうでもいいこと）」や「_____ over trivial things（些細なこと）」もよく使われる。
　
✔「神経衰弱にかかる」ことを「Have a nervous breakdown」と表す。
　
＜例文＞
　
Why do you and your boyfriend always fight over small things?
（なんでいつも彼氏とつまらないことで喧嘩するの？）
　
Don't get worked up over trivial things. It's a waste of energy and time.
（つまらないことでカッカとならない。時間と労力の無駄だよ。）
　
She always makes a fuss over nothing. It's so annoying.

Ahhh this rosy heartbroken makeup is the last Valentine's Day look of my series! I wanted this look to be reminiscent of a one-sided or unrequited love but the video ended up happier than I intended ? oops! haha

This past month on Youtube has been crazy for me. The amount of support you guys have shown me is unbelievable! Thank you so much for believing in me. I will continue to try my best to put out content for you all (*ฅ́˘ฅ̀*) .｡.:*♡

Also, I used craft glitter for this look but I made sure to apply and remove it carefully. Plus, it's easier to control when it isn't applied to the upper eyelid..and I bought these glitters for this look a few weeks ago so

I know a few of you have been asking for a hair tutorial so I will try my best to get that up (although my hair curling routine isn't anything special..maybe I'll combine the video with a story time to make it less boring? idk let me know if you're interested in that)

And please excuse my nails! I got them done when I was in a rush so they didn't hold up very well ?

Also I mentioned this in the description of my Lovesick video so I figured I'd just give you all an update here: I'm going to college!! haha so I'm not getting disowned
