台灣民謠金屬樂團 Crescent Lament 恆月三途，將於2020年底推出第三張專輯 —【噤夢 Land of Lost Voices】。【噤夢】以終戰後國民政府來台前期的台灣社會為背景，除了在音樂上融入更豐富的民俗樂器，也將上張專輯【花殤 Elegy for the Blossoms】的主角阿香再度帶入歌曲中，藉著藝妲阿香與戀人明風兩人未完的緣分，娓娓道出歷史洪流中台灣人民遭遇的悲傷故事。

……如同那年代無數台灣有志青年，受過現代教育的明風，對台灣的未來懷抱無比熱忱。1947年3月8日，即將出門的明風說道：「聽講基隆港咧欲出代誌矣，為著妳佮囡仔的未來，我愛去看覓（聽説基隆港快要出事了，為了妳跟孩子的將來，我必須去看看）。」接著他擁著阿香，繼續說：「我下暗就會轉來。若是趕袂轉來，我會先去社寮島的阿兄兜蹛一暝（我傍晚就會回家。倘若趕不回來，我會先去社寮島的大哥家住一晚）。」

然而，明風再也沒有回來。隔日，阿香從鄰居口中得知，中國來的援軍已從基隆港登陸，船還沒靠岸就架起機槍掃射民眾，岸上軍隊也沿街瘋狂開槍；成群學生被軍隊割掉耳鼻及生殖器後，用刺刀戳死；其餘沒死的市民被軍隊抓起來，三、五人一組遭鐵線刺穿手掌足踝，串成一排排帶到港邊，朝頭上開一槍後踢到海裡。幾天後，浮起的屍體漂滿基隆港，隨著浪一波波打回岸邊。阿香經不起如此巨大打擊，終日以淚洗面。

Crescent Lament’s third album "Land of Lost Voices" will be released on December 11, 2020. A sequel to our second album, the story continues from where "Elegy for the Blossoms" left off: the unfinished romance between A-hiong and her lover, Bîng-hong. They once believed that they would not see each other again, but fate has brought them back together. They would go through the collapse of Taiwanese society in the post-WWII era, experience horrifying days that were even more miserable than wartime, and finally witness the destined tragedy of the 228 Incident.

The current MV “By the Lone Light” recounts the bereavement that A-hiong suffered, after realizing Bîng-hong has died from the indiscriminate massacre in March 1947.

(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)…… Like all young Taiwanese of that era, Bîng-hong, who had received modern education, was passionate about Taiwan’s future. “I heard something happened at Keelung harbor, I need to check it for you and our kid,” Bîng-hong told A-hiong before he headed out on 8 March 1947. “I’ll be back in the evening—if I don’t return before nightfall, I’ll spend the night at my brother’s home at Sia Liao Island,” he said, giving A-hiong a hug as he left.

Bîng-hong never came home. The next day, A-hiong heard from neighbors that Chinese troops landed in Keelung the day before, and started shooting people with machine guns even before the vessels docked. Troops on land also shot people indiscriminately on the streets. Groups of students had their noses, ears, and genitals cut off, before being stabbed with bayonets. Those who survived were arrested by soldiers, and strung up with barbed wire through their palms and ankles. Then, they were shot in the back of their heads, and kicked into the harbor. Days later, innumerable floating bodies blocked the harbor, and piled up on the shore. A-hiong could not take it anymore, and was in tears all day.

Bîng-hong’s body was never found. In the following two months, the KMT government violently cracked down on uprisings, and purged rebels across Taiwan. Around 20,000 civilians were murdered by the troops, most of whom belonged to the young generation. Doctors, lawyers, professors, and councilors were executed in large numbers, and an entire generation was muted……(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)

克里斯・蘇科（1979 -）成長時期深受英國與美國文化薰陶，爾後投身音樂創作與巡迴表演。他於2009年獲格奧爾格·赫羅爾德（Georg Herold）頒發德國杜塞道夫藝術學院榮譽學位，於2012年畢業於英國皇家藝術學院。除了藝術創作以外，同時身兼詩人與音樂家，且至今創作不懈。蘇科於世界各地皆有展出，而其作品也受諸多公共與私人館藏青睞典藏。2015年，蘇科與保羅·沃瑟曼共同撰寫詩集《為了不孤獨死，你所付出的代價》，中文翻譯版本於2018年由白石畫廊出版。克里斯・蘇科目前工作與居住於德國杜塞道夫。

《狂歡畫》系列作品來自於藝術家對清晨陽光的感受與觀察，尤其當他整夜在外，於破曉時分慢慢走回家時所看到的景色，蘇科描述：「黑夜逐漸退去，萬物在日夜之間顯得特別寧靜。那是一種堅不可摧與相異的交點，所有顏色生動而綻放。」 此充滿詩意的系列作品傳達了年輕藝術家在一天中最曖昧時刻蠢蠢欲動的心情。

Chris Succo (*1979) lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany. He attended the attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he was awarded Meisterschüler by Prof. Georg Herold and the Royal College of Art, London, graduating from the latter in 2012. Major influences for the German-born artist are his early experiences of British and American culture through his family ties in the respective countries, his involvement in the music recording and touring industry in his formative years and his continuing work as writer and musician. Succo has exhibited internationally, and his work is featured in many public and private collections, he also sourced many of his artwork titles from the poetry book ‘The Price You Pay For Not Being Alone With Your Dying’ which he co-authored with his writer-friend Paul Wasserman in 2015; the Chinese translation version is published in 2018 by Whitestone Gallery.

Binge Paintings are from the artist’s observation of morning light, especially when walking back home in the early morning from a late night out in the summer time. Succo describes it “just as the night breaks, things seem to be in-between and calm. They are about this feeling of invincibility and different, more vibrant reception of colour.” This poetic series delivers the artist’s young and unsettling feelings from the most vulnerable and mysterious time of a day.

After 17 years in the United States, these public displays still make no sense to me. But I’m trying.
來美國17年了，我還是不能理解這些公開表現的方式。但我一直試著了解。

Hugs Galore
Hugging wasn’t a thing in my childhood in Hong Kong. When I saw my grandmother, I just shook her hand. In fact, I never hugged anyone until I was 13, when I came to America. The concept of hugging was so foreign to me that I had to study how other people hugged to understand the mechanics of wrapping your arms around someone. Was I supposed to put both arms over the shoulder? Both arms around the belt? One up and one down? It was a confusing time in my life.
大量擁抱
我的童年是在香港度過的，那裡不流行擁抱。看到奶奶，我只會握著她的手。實際上，在13歲來美國之前，我從來沒有和任何人擁抱過。擁抱的概念對我來說如此陌生，以至我不得不去研究其他人是怎麼擁抱的，以便理解這種張開雙臂環繞住某人的技術。我應該把兩條手臂都放在對方肩膀上嗎？都搭在腰上？一上一下？這是我人生中的一個困惑時期。

When I finally mustered the courage to hug this girl in school, I’m pretty sure I forearmed her in the face. Yet these days, I’m recklessly hugging everyone, with complete disregard, and hopefully fewer injuries. I hug my friends, I hug people I’ve just met, I hug the UPS man if he delivered a cool package. (Even if he delivers toilet paper, I still give a quick hug.)

‘Bae’?
Most of my friends have at least two dating apps on their phones. One friend is having lots of success on Plenty of Fish, another had her heart broken twice by different guys from Bumble, and I have gathered a database of nightmare stories from my own Tinder dates.
「寶寶」？
我的大部分朋友手機上都有至少兩款交友APP。其中一個朋友在Plenty of Fish上有不少成功斬獲，另一個朋友被透過Bumble認識的兩個傢伙傷透了心。我自己也在與用Tinder認識的人約會時發生了很多噩夢般的故事。

I once matched with a woman whose job description was “social influencer.” Deep down I knew this probably meant she was unemployed with 50,000 Instagram followers — some of them real — but I gave it a shot. I took her out to Dave & Busters so if the date went south, I could still enjoy myself playing Mario Kart.
我曾經在Tinder和一個工作描述寫的是「網路紅人」的女人配對。她在Instagram上有五萬粉絲——其中一部分是真正的粉絲——內心深處，我知道這可能意味著她沒有工作，但我想試試。我帶她去了Dave & Busters娛樂餐廳，所以如果約會失敗，我還可以玩瑪利歐賽車(Mario Kart)。

Throughout the date, she kept having me take videos of her for her Instagram story. “O.K., do one like that, but turn the phone the other way.” “Let’s do one with the puppy face filter!” “O.K., get one of me playing Mario Kart.” I’m not your cameraman! I want to play Mario Kart, too! I would have walked out if I hadn’t just invested $30 in my Dave & Buster’s game card. Priorities.
在整個約會過程中，她一直讓我給她拍可以發到Instagram上的影片。「好，這樣拍一個，但把手機換到另一邊去。」「我們用狗狗臉濾鏡拍一個吧！」「好，拍一個我玩瑪利歐賽車的。」我不是你的攝影師！我也想玩瑪利歐賽車！如果不是剛往Dave & Buster’s的遊戲卡裡儲值了30美元，我當場就走了。這才是最重要的。

We never got to know each other, but that didn’t seem to be an impediment to her, at least not on social media. The next day I saw a post on her Instagram of her playing Mario Kart, with the caption “I love it when bae takes you out for game night.” Um, what? I definitely was not her “bae” and we have never spoken since. As Justin Bieber would say, “Baby you should go and love yourself.”

The Rampant Spread of ‘I Love You’
In many Asian cultures, people rarely, if ever, utter the words “I love you.” But in America “I love you” can be used as an endearing greeting from lovers, as a supportive term from parents to their children and even as a casual goodbye to friends: “That was an amazing brunch, let’s do it again soon. I love you, bye!”
泛濫的「我愛你」
在很多亞洲文化中，人們很少說「我愛你」。但在美國，「我愛你」可以是愛人之間的親密問候、父母對孩子的支持甚至是和朋友的隨口道別：「這頓早午餐太棒了。咱們改天再一起吃。我愛你，再見！」

American culture is just much more intimate than what I was used to growing up. If I said “I love you” to my parents, they would probably think I’m crazy or that I have terminal cancer. I have said it to my friends sometimes, in a drunk-guy-at-the-bar way. “Hey, I love you, bro, you’re awesome, man.” And I have said it to one girl, but to be honest I’m not sure I meant it — it just seemed like the right answer at the moment.
美國文化遠比我在成長過程中所習慣的文化親密。如果我對我的父母說「我愛你」，他們可能會認為我瘋了，或者是到了癌症晚期。我有時候會像酒吧裡的醉鬼一樣對朋友說。「嘿，我愛你，兄弟，你太棒了，哥們兒。」我對一個女孩也說過這三個字，但說實話我不確定自己是不是認真的——只是因為那個當下似乎應該那麼說。

She was wonderful, and two months into our relationship she told me, “I really like you.” I said, “I really like you too.” Then she said, “I really, really like you,” and looked into my cornea. And I said, “Yes, I really, really like you too!” Frustration came over her and she pushed on: “No! I mean, like, I really, really, really like you!” A-ha — I finally realized what she meant, so I gave her the answer she was looking for: “Oh yeah, I love you.”

That was a regrettable mistake from this naïve people pleaser. We eventually broke up because we both realized I didn’t mean that. So what does it really mean to say “I love you”? Does it mean nothing more than “You’re cool”? Or is it actually a magical phrase?
這句幼稚且討好他人的話造成了一個令人遺憾的錯誤。我們最後分手了，因為我們都意識到我說那句話不是認真的。那麼說「我愛你」究竟是什麼意思？只是「你真酷」的意思？還是說它真的是一句有魔力的話？

I asked my 70-year-old Chinese father, “Dad, why don’t we ever say ‘I love you’?” And he said, “We don’t have to always say I love you, it’s understood.” Maybe he’s right.
我的父親是中國人，他已經70歲了。我問他，「爸，我們為什麼從來不說『我愛你’？」他說，「我們不用老是說我愛你，大家心裡都知道。」也許他是對的。

「念伊人」這首歌，時序上接續「孤燈微微」：1947年3月8日，明風離家前往基隆港邊，卻再也未歸；阿香日復一日在社寮島海邊等待，也盼不到明風出現。

春夏過去了，秋冬離開了，時間之輪默默的運轉著。而花開花落、月盈月缺，阿香卻僅能在落雨暝的夢中，與明風相會。

「念伊人」的歌詞，深深刻畫出二二八事件後的台灣女性，對於生死未明的摯愛，無盡的思念與等待。

Crescent Lament's new music video — "Another Night of Solitude" is now released.

Based on the footage of "Land of Lost Voices" album releasing tour, it is a live record composed of
numerous wonderful moments from December 2020 to January 2021.

The story of "Another Night of Solitude" followed "By the Lone Light". After Bîng-hong went missing during the indiscriminate massacre in March 1947, A-hiong tried desperately to find her beloved one but in vain. As seasons changed, a year went by. Longing for Bîng-hong's safe return eventually became a foolish wish, only solitude remained.

然而，明風再也沒有回來。隔日，阿香從鄰居口中得知，中國來的援軍已從基隆港登陸，船還沒靠岸就架起機槍掃射民眾，岸上軍隊也沿街瘋狂開槍；成群學生被軍隊割掉耳鼻及生殖器後，用刺刀戳死；其餘沒死的市民被軍隊抓起來，三、五人一組遭鐵線刺穿手掌足踝，串成一排排帶到港邊，朝頭上開一槍後踢到海裡。幾天後，浮起的屍體漂滿基隆港，隨著浪一波波打回岸邊。阿香經不起如此巨大打擊，終日以淚洗面。

明風的屍體從來沒被找到。接下來兩個月，國民政府在全台進行血腥鎮壓及恐怖清鄉，約兩萬名民眾遭軍隊屠殺，青壯世代傷亡猶重；而醫師、律師、教授、議員等台灣菁英，更遭大規模處決，整個世代的台灣人被集體消音……

Crescent Lament’s third album "Land of Lost Voices" is released on December 11, 2020. A sequel to our second album, the story continues from where "Elegy for the Blossoms" left off: the unfinished romance between A-hiong and her lover, Bîng-hong. They once believed that they would not see each other again, but fate has brought them back together. They would go through the collapse of Taiwanese society in the post-WWII era, experience horrifying days that were even more miserable than wartime, and finally witness the destined tragedy of the 228 Incident.

The current music video “By the Lone Light” recounts the bereavement that A-hiong suffered, after realizing Bîng-hong has died from the indiscriminate massacre in March 1947.

(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)…… Like all young Taiwanese of that era, Bîng-hong, who had received modern education, was passionate about Taiwan’s future. “I heard something happened at Keelung harbor, I need to check it for you and our kid,” Bîng-hong told A-hiong before he headed out on 8 March 1947. “I’ll be back in the evening—if I don’t return before nightfall, I’ll spend the night at my brother’s home at Sia Liao Island,” he said, giving A-hiong a hug as he left.

Bîng-hong never came home. The next day, A-hiong heard from neighbors that Chinese troops landed in Keelung the day before, and started shooting people with machine guns even before the vessels docked. Troops on land also shot people indiscriminately on the streets. Groups of students had their noses, ears, and genitals cut off, before being stabbed with bayonets. Those who survived were arrested by soldiers, and strung up with barbed wire through their palms and ankles. Then, they were shot in the back of their heads, and kicked into the harbor. Days later, innumerable floating bodies blocked the harbor, and piled up on the shore. A-hiong could not take it anymore, and was in tears all day.

Bîng-hong’s body was never found. In the following two months, the KMT government violently cracked down on uprisings, and purged rebels across Taiwan. Around 20,000 civilians were murdered by the troops, most of whom belonged to the young generation. Doctors, lawyers, professors, and councilors were executed in large numbers, and an entire generation was muted……(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)
