THE TRAP OF COMPARISON
I remember one time when I was in first grade, my mother told me (jokingly, of course, but it still left a wound in my tender 6-year-old heart):
“The neighbor’s daughter has better grades than you. Maybe I should trade you for her instead.”
At that moment, my mind formed a limiting belief: If others are better than me, there will be less love for me.
In a desperate effort to get love, I subconsciously followed that belief for more than 20 years, trying to be an overachiever, all the time keeping vigilant watch at others’ achievement.
I was successful on the outside, but on the inside, I was a wreck. Worse, I was deeply lonely. (It’s hard to make friends when you’re so scared of their success!)
The more we think these thoughts, the smaller we feel.
This thought pattern might have been developed since your childhood, if your parents, like mine, often compared you with others.
What I learned, the hard way was that when you try to be better than others, you forget to be what you’re best at: yourself.
𝐄𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐬.
Some are lucky enough to identify it right away. Many take a bit longer to discover.

So many people have lost their lives because of the cold in a desperate effort to try and stay warm. Hundreds of homes have lost power and houses have burned to the ground because of fires set by locals to keep warm in an area where it very rarely snows in the continental USA. The USA has had record snow fall and snow storms in the last month causing people across the nation to lose power, their homes and a shortage of water. I just pray to God that peace will return to the US after such an already terrible 2020! God Bless America

Every time there was a missed shot, the Philadelphia 76ers showed just how desperate they were.
Dominating the rebounding matchup and outscoring Detroit 38-16 on points in the paint, the 76ers got back into their second-round series by defeating Detroit 93-83 Saturday night to cut the Pistons' lead in the series to 2-1. Game 4 is Sunday night.
Led by big men Kenny Thomas, Derrick Coleman and Tyrone Hill, the 76ers outrebounded the Pistons 48-30 and scored 27 second-chance points in a one-sided game that offered little suspense in the second half.
"We played awful. Horribly,'' Detroit's Tayshaun Prince said. "They killed us on the boards -- especially offensive rebounds.''
Thomas had a double-double before halftime and finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds -- five on the offensive end -- before pulling a leg muscle late in the third quarter. He said his injury was not serious.
Hill had nine points and six rebounds in just 22 minutes, but that was still more than Detroit's Ben Wallace managed to contribute in 36 minutes. The NBA's leading rebounder was held to six points and six rebounds.
"His numbers may not look as good as normal, but I don't question his heart or effort,'' Detroit coach Rick Carlisle said. "He'll bounce back tomorrow, and we'll bounce back tomorrow.''
Allen Iverson had 25 points and 11 assists, Keith Van Horn had his best game of the series with 17 points, and Coleman added 15 points and eight rebounds. The 76ers grabbed one-third of their rebounds on the offensive end.
All five Philadelphia starters reached double figures as the Sixers avoided falling behind 3-0 -- a deficit no NBA team has ever overcome.
"This was enormous,'' Sixers coach Larry Brown said.
"It does something for our psyche, the mental aspect,'' Iverson said. "We come into our own crib and are able to win decisively, it gives us a lot of motivation going into the next game.''
The Pistons might have point guard Chauncey Billups available for Game 4. A sprained ankle kept him sidelined for the second straight game, and Billups said afterward he's 50-50 for Sunday.
Richard Hamilton led Detroit with 24 points, Tayshaun Prince had 17 and Chucky Atkins had 13 filling in for Billups. No one else on the team scored more than seven.
Thomas strained his right quadriceps muscle while going for a rebound against Wallace and left for good with 3:50 left in the third quarter.
By then, the Sixers were ahead 64-44, and they never needed Thomas back. Van Horn made a 3-pointer 14 seconds later to give Philadelphia its largest lead -- 22.
Jon Barry hit a 3-pointer with 3:12 left to pull the Pistons to 86-75, but Iverson scored Philadelphia's next five points to keep it from getting any closer.
The 76ers asserted themselves on the boards early. When Hill grabbed the third offensive rebound of a single possession and turned it into a three-point play for a 23-18 lead, it gave Philadelphia a 17-4 edge in rebounding.
"The rebounds were a joke. The second-chance points in the first half was embarrassing,'' Barry said.
The Pistons gave Atkins a rest at the start of the second quarter, and Iverson took advantage of his matchup against slow-footed Barry to spark an 8-3 run that gave the Sixers a 31-22 lead.
Thomas had a double-double -- 10 points and 10 rebounds -- after making a 12-footer to cap a 7-0 run that gave Philadelphia a 44-30 lead. Detroit scored seven of the next eight points, but Snow ended the half with a jumper for a 48-37 lead after Price committed a traveling violation while isolated one-on-one against Hill.
Van Horn's 3-pointer capped a 7-0 run to start the second half, putting Philadelphia ahead by 18. The Sixers led by at least 16 for the rest of the third quarter.
Game notes
Cliff Robinson was only 1-for-6, and Barry was 2-for-6. ... Philadelphia's Aaron McKie also struggled, going 0-for-3 from the field. ... Detroit's Danny Manning had his first playing time of the series, playing the final 4½ minutes and picking up three fouls with no points. ... Van Horn became a father for the fourth time Saturday when his wife gave birth to their third daughter, Haley.

10 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE 2011 JAPANESE TSUNAMI & TOHOKU EARTHQUAKE
(TOHOKU DISASTER) 東北地方太平洋沖地震 (March 11th)
The most powerful earthquake ever recorded to have hit Japan. A 9.0 magnitude. This of course triggered a massive tsunami that wrecked the north eastern coastline.
Japan was simply not as prepared as they thought they were for such a disaster. If that wasn’t bad enough, there was a Level 7 nuclear emergency at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant comparable to Chernobyl.
1) Every 800 to 1100 Years
From analysing the Holocene sequence in the Sendai area, it’s known that sometime between 1000 BC and 500 BC, a massive tsunami-generating earthquake hit the area.
Then in 1 AD, it hit again.
Over 800 years later, The Sanriku Earthquake and Tsunami of 869, devastated the same area in and around Sendai.
That’s 3 events of similar type and magnitude in the same region all in the last 3000 years. This indicates a recurrence interval of 800 to 1100 years. We were due another one...
2) Antarctic Ice
Seismic waves increased the flow of the Whillans Ice Stream in Antarctica, which is essentially a moving ice river. Sea waves, having traveled 13,000 km broke icebergs the size of Manhattan off the Sulzberger Ice Shelf.
3) Planetary Changes
The Earth’s axis shifted by 10 to 25 cm, which changed the tilt of the planet and the length of a day-. That’s right; the redistribution of Earth’s mass shortened our day by almost two microseconds.
4) Costliest Natural Disaster
The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, $15 billion
The 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, $20.7 billion
Hurricane Katrina in 2005, $45 billion
The 2008 Sichuan Earthquake in China, $148 billion
The 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan? Over $300 billion
5) Gaman
In Japan, immediately following the earthquake, there was a notable lack of disorder.
People remained calm despite having every right to freak out. They formed orderly lines outside supermarkets even though they were desperate for food. This act of civility is due to what the Japanese call, Gaman.
Gaman means to do one’s best in times of distress, to maintain self control and discipline. There is a national desire to see civility prevail, no matter the circumstances, even when one catastrophe piles onto another.
6) Yakuza Crime Syndicate
Members of the Yakuza, Japan’s organised crime syndicate, helped enforce order on the streets.
7) North Korean Assist
North Korea donated a $100,000 US to the Japanese Red Cross Society, and the late former leader Kim Jong-Il himself sent half a million dollars to Korean residents in Japan caught up in the disaster.
8) Celebrity Aid
All around the world, many celebrities privately donated to the relief effort, including Hikaru Utada, Gackt, AKB48, Girls’ Generation, Jackie Chan, Clint Eastwood, Sandra Bullock, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, Black Eyed Peas, My Chemical Romance, and Lady Gaga.
9) Ghost Passengers
Police have received hundreds of reports from people who have apparently seen ghosts in tsunami-devastated towns. Taxi drivers in particular have reported picking up ghost passengers.
10) Vindicated Mayor
Wamura became the mayor of Fudai, and in 1972, he started construction on a 15.5 meter floodgate. The total cost was 3.56 billion yen. Many residents as well as the village council felt a floodgate of that size was unnecessary. It was reckless spending from a foolish mayor.
The Tohoku tsunami destroying towns along the north eastern coast. Fudai, however, was spared. Wamura’s floodgate had prevented much of the water from coming in. He had saved the town that had doubted him.
Today, Kotaku Wamura is remembered as a hero, the saviour of Fudai.
