On May 18, President Trump sent a greeting to the 18th Washington, D.C. Dragon Boat Festival. In his congratulatory message, President Trump highlighted Taiwan’s history and the people of Taiwan’s tradition and culture, and said that the United States and Taiwan share the same goal of a more prosperous and free globe. President Trump said: "I send my warmest greetings to those attending the 2019 Washington, D.C. Dragon Boat Festival. Over the past 18 years, the Dragon Boat Festival has brought the rich history of Taiwan to the waterfront of the Potomac River for visitors and residents of our Nation’s capital to enjoy. This event, hosted by the Taiwan-U.S. Cultural Association, helps to foster a deeper appreciation of the traditions and culture of the people of Taiwan. Today is an opportunity to forge new friendships and recognize our shared goals of greater prosperity and liberty throughout the world. Melania and I send our best wishes for a memorable event."
