How long does it take to reach C1 (advanced) in a language you're learning? 💭
🤔Someone asked this on Twitter today and it got me thinking. I wonder why questions like these are so common. It's good to have a broad understanding of how long it might take, but there are way too many factors at play, making it impossible to have a single answer to this question.
📚If you're fluent in Dutch and learning Afrikaans, it might take you a few months or years, depending on the time you put in to learn and practice, to become fluent. The two languages are that similar.
🤠But if you're a native French speaker learning Korean, for instance, the two languages are very different in terms of grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure and even writing system. It would require hours and hours more effort than the above example.
🗻In another instance, 2 native English speakers could both start learning Japanese. Person A spends hours weekly studying, getting speaking practice in, listening and getting immersion down, and works hard. They could reach N3 (intermediate) level in a year and a half if they put in a ton of effort and if Japanese is all they focus on. Person B might even live in Japan, but if they don't put in the work and just rely on some weekly classes and barely do their homework, they might never even reach N5 (beginner) despite living in Japan. 🤔
As you can see, it's really impossible to ask these questions and have a cookie-cutter answer for each person and each language. Let's rather put time in to be immersed in languages rather than get stressed about how long the process might take. What do you all think? 💖🥳

The origins of ‘fool’
Wednesday is April 1, when people in many countries worldwide celebrate the custom ( ) of “April Fool’s Day.” On this day, they play pranks ( ) on each other, the pranksters gleefully ( ) calling those hapless ( ) enough to fall for ( ) the joke an “April Fool.”
Nobody really knows for certain ( ) when, where or why the custom started. We have more certainty over the origins of the word “fool” itself, although some details remain unclear.
The word, which refers to ( ) a silly, stupid, or ignorant ( ) person, is thought to originate ( ) in the early 13th century, deriving ( ) from Old French fol, meaning a madman or insane person. The French word, in turn, comes from the Latin follis, meaning a leather bag or a bellows ( ) and, by extension later on, an empty-headed ( ) person.
Fool also referred to a rogue ( ) or a sinful ( ), wicked ( ) or lecherous ( ) person — around 1300, a “fool woman” meant a prostitute ( ), for example — and also a court ( ) jester ( ), a person whose purpose was to entertain ( ) the king and court, whether because they were pretending to be buffoonish ( ) or whether they actually were like that.
One theory is that the idea of the court jester “fool” derives from folles — the plural form of follis (bellows) — referring to the puffed cheeks of a buffoon.
It is unclear which sense came first, that of the idiot or the jester.

France is already under the second lockdown to deal with the coronavirus.
In parallel, I have been living in Taiwan, which is in the top countries of the world for their handling of the epidemic. Actually a lot of media recognize Taiwan as being THE most successful country dealing with the epidemic.
For example this news from the Brookings institute saying that Taiwan is the first country in the world in term of success fighting the covid19 based on number of deaths X GDP growth in this period: https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4046909
I keep questioning myself: Why are the French media, politicians and scientists not actively talking and studying about the different measures that Taiwan has taken to deal with the epidemic?
In France, we have a very self-centered media that only looks at our own struggle, or sometimes the neighbors, Spain, UK, etc, which don't do very well either.
Why aren't we constantly talking about how Taiwan is dealing with the epidemics? Why aren't we trying to learn something from Taiwan?
In this video, I will not give any particular advice on how to deal with the epidemics, because it is not my area of expertise. I just want to emphasize the fact that Taiwan has been doing extremely well, and I wish France would look into this seriously from now on.

The days are ticking by and it's getting close to just a month left to the big day 6th May - Battle of the Freaks 2! Side note Thank you Kit, for getting a shoutout for me by one of my idols Ms Bikini Olympia, @courtneykiing!!!
My back is a lot better, not playing up but not taking any risk too in doing lower body workout. Was told by my physio i can do some of my usual stuff but at half my normal weight (which is suuppppperr boring), barely broke a sweat, hence focused a lot on making sure my tempo and mind muscle connection were there. Best time to focus on the little details when injured.
Upper body i maintained the program but was told to do cardio everyday. i personally asked for it to so i don't waste time. After 4 days of consistent steady state cardio, i could see some significant changes, weight dropped, so did the body fat percentage base on the InBody analysis at Koa.
Got in more posing practice in this week and learnt how to do the quarter turns. Posing is a frigging workout on it's own, learning how to think about contracting the right muscles, especially making sure my trap goes down and getting my delts to pop. But glad overall i'm seeing good changes and my coach says so too.
I finally managed to do some legs on Friday! Instead of squats swapped it to split squats with hamstring curls, less pressure on my lower back.
Nutrition hasn't changed, sticking to the 50g of carbs and below. At the end of the video, i give an idea of what 50g of carbs looks like. For example in one day i would eat
4 rice cakes, 50g of blueberries, 50g of raspberries, 30 almonds and 1 tablespoon of chia seed. All that is equivalent to eating one bowl of cooked white rice or even 2 medium size bananas
Low carbs isn't so bad in my opinion. i've gotten used to it, and my body feels a lot better on this diet plan. However i need to be careful with my cheats. Learnt that I can't take a LOAD of dairy (had 2 scoops of gelato - BAD IDEA!), cause it bloats the heck out of me. This was after 2 ribs, 1 chicken thigh, french fries, rice and roti boy.. the gelato and the cheese bake tart undid me...sigh. Well at least i know from here.
Very productive week and what I need most of now is REST! The comp is coming soon!!
Congrats to my buddy Kam on winning in his division for powerlifting and it as usually cheatmeals are better with company. Nana we will begin our #cheatmealbucketlist! :P
Thanks again everyone for watching my vlogs, I'm learning everyday and do tell me what else you want me to share in my videos! Appreciate every comment and view :)
