Theo Engadget, hôm 7.9, Ford công bố đã thuê Doug Field - người giữ chức vụ Phó chủ tịch phụ trách các dự án đặc biệt tại Apple và giới phân tích tin rằng nhiệm vụ của ông là giám sát dự án Titan. Trước khi làm việc tại Apple, ông Field là một cựu giám đốc điều hành của Tesla, nơi ông tham gia phát triển Model 3.
Nói về nhân sự mới của mình, CEO Ford Jim Farley cho biết “Doug là một trong những nhà lãnh đạo thiết kế sản phẩm và kỹ thuật được kính trọng nhất thế giới và là động lực thúc đẩy các sản phẩm đột phá về ô tô, công nghệ và di động, bao gồm cả Apple, Tesla và Segway”. Trên cương vị mới là Giám đốc công nghệ tiên tiến và hệ thống nhúng, ông sẽ giám sát bộ phận phần mềm và phần cứng nhúng của Ford.
Hiện chưa rõ việc Field ra đi có ý nghĩa ra sao đối với tham vọng ô tô của Apple. Theo phóng viên Bloomberg Mark Gurman, đó là một tin xấu đối với công ty. Trong tweet của mình, Gurman nói, “Đây có lẽ là bước lùi lớn nhất trong lịch sử đầy thất bại đối với dự án xe hơi của Apple. Như tôi đã viết vào tháng 1, không có Apple Car nào có thể ra mắt, sớm nhất là 2024. Và bây giờ, thời hạn này còn xa hơn nữa”.
