Who is the one Testing your Faith?
“Instead of your shame you will have double. Instead of dishonor, they will rejoice in their portion. Therefore in their land, they will possess double. Everlasting joy will be to them.” (Isaiah 61:7 WEB)
There is this religious belief in the body of Christ that “God allows us to go through sufferings to test our faith”.
I’m not sure whether they have this image of God sitting there and watching as if to find out if we succeed or not.
God as an omniscient Being already knows the level we are at. He also knows what mistakes we will make, before we even thought of committing them.
There is no need for Him to test us, as if He doesn’t already know!
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-4 WEB)
The kind of testing is not for God to know, but it is to provide us with real-life opportunities to use our faith.
The Greek word for testing is “dokimion” which can also mean “proving”. Sufferings are opportunities to use our faith and grow stronger through them.
So we are the ones testing our faith, not God!
It’s like how you can read all about bodybuilding, but if you don’t go to the gym and actually do the exercise, you won’t actually get stronger.
Reading teaches you the principles of exercise and how to do it right. But actually doing it is what increases your muscle strength.
The Scriptures teach you the way of faith, and sufferings allow you to test that faith in real-life, proving that you really believe what God’s word says, and also increasing your spiritual strength.
Sufferings happens at times because of our own mistakes and we have to deal with their earthly consequences. Other times, the devil instigates attacks, adding fuel to the fire.
God allows these to happen up to certain safe limits for us, to perfect our character and correct our wrong beliefs.
When a skillful refiner purifies silver, he has to attentively watch the silver, and take it out of the fire at the right time.
Take it out too soon and it isn’t fully purified.
Wait until it’s too late and the whole silver is lost.
“Take away the dross from the silver, and material comes out for the refiner;” (Proverbs 25:4 WEB)
Even amidst your fiery suffering, God knows the exact moment to pull you out from it, so that you reap the full benefits of the experience without being throughly damaged.
This is His appointed time of deliverance—perfectly calculated, not one moment too late or too soon.
When you emerge out of the circumstance, our God graciously restores you for what you went through.
Instead of shame and dishonor, you’ll receive double portion of blessings and rewards!
This happened to Job—he received double in quantity for his lost herds, and double in quality for his lost sons and daughters.
Job may have been 70 years old before his trial started, as he was given an additional 140 years of life to enjoy after the trial.
The days of suffering are short compared to the years of blessedness.
“So Yahweh blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys. He had also seven sons and three daughters. He called the name of the first, Jemimah; and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren Happuch. In all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job. Their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, to four generations. So Job died, being old and full of days.” (Job 42:12-17 WEB)
We become enriched through tough seasons in our lives. If you don’t go through any trials, you can’t reach new levels of blessedness.
Flow with God’s times and seasons. Trust that He is preparing you for new levels!

夏日消暑袪濕小貼士
炎炎夏日要消暑少不免開大冷氣,左手雪糕、右手凍飲誓要透心涼!暑熱容易令汗出過多,有傷津液,以上行為未能消暑之餘,反而有可能令風寒濕邪入侵,影響體內津液運行及脾胃運化失調,適得其反導致中暑!中醫理論認為「人以天地之氣生,四時之法成」,人要順應四季的氣候變化調理身體,在這個初夏季節交替之時,除了要著眼於夏天養心及養陽氣的調理外,潮濕悶熱的天氣下也要好好養脾胃,才可順利排出身體的濕氣,令人更覺精神爽利。所以說,利用正確的方法消暑袪濕才是初夏養生之道!
初夏宜忌:
❌飲食生冷食物,免生寒濕傷脾胃,可以適當食用消暑食材如瓜類
❌常穿緊身衣物,以免未能揮發汗水,加劇皮膚敏感症狀
❌風扇、冷氣直吹,冷氣理想温度為25.5°C
✔外出戴帽或以傘遮陰,穿棉、麻質衣服通爽透氣,驅走汗味
✔規律運動,微微出汗有助排濕
✔曬太陽能養陽氣,但記得不時補充水份及不要曬太長時間
✔抽時間放空腦袋或冥想,夏日宜養心,調養精神情志
✔適量進食酸味食材開胃斂汗,苦味食材清熱除煩
Tips for clear summer heat and dispel dampness
It's been quite hot and a lot of people turn on air conditioning, have ice cream and cold drinks to cool down. The summer heat can cause people to sweat too much and leading to decrease of body fluids. Actually, the above behaviours cannot clear summer heat but will allow wind-cold and dampness pathogens to attack the body, causing the fluid and spleen and stomach transport to malfunction which leads to heat stroke. Chinese medicine believes that people should have health living according to the four seasons and climate change. During early summer, aside from nourishing your heart and qi, you should strengthen the spleen and stomach in this moist and humid season. Then you can dispel dampness and feel more refreshed. Using the right methods to clear summer heat and dispel dampness is the best way to maintain health in early summer!
Dos & Don’ts in early summer
❌Eat or drink cold/raw food. Coldness and dampness will harm spleen and stomach. Appropriately consume ingredients such as melons to relieve summer heat.
❌Always wear tight materials that will disrupt sweat flow which can worsen skin allergies.
❌Avoid seats near the fan or air condition. The proper temperature of air condition is 25.5°C.
✔Wear a hat or bring an umbrella to protect from sunlight. Wear breathable materials such as cotton or linen to drive away sweat.
✔Exercise regularly. Slightly sweating helps to dispel dampness.
✔Sunbathing helps to raise yang qi. Remember to always drink water and do not sunbathe for long time.
✔Take time out to space out or meditate. It is better to take care of your heart in summer by cultivating your spirit.
✔Appropriately consume sour ingredients to stimulate appetite and suppress sweating. Also eat bittering ingredients can clear heat and relieve irritability.

Shaquille O'Neal, the man with four rings, 28,596 career points and scores of nicknames, has finally decided to call it quits, ending one of the most colorful careers in NBA history that will surely culminate with a Hall of Fame induction.
O'Neal, 39, officially announced his retirement Wednesday using the new social media tool Tout, a real-time video messaging service.
"Once a businesman, always a businessman," O'Neal said, smiling. "I am the emperor of the social media network. Why text when you can Tout?"
O'Neal signed a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics last summer but a persistent Achilles injury will prevent him from fulfilling the terms of the deal. O'Neal first injured his right Achilles on Christmas Day and was able to play only in two of the final 35 games of the regular season.
On April 3 against Detroit, O'Neal returned to the court after a two-month absence and scored six points in a spirited 5 minutes and 29 seconds before coming up lame and limping off the floor. Although his injury was listed as a strained calf, O'Neal said it was the Achilles flaring up again.
"I felt like someone had shot me in the back of my leg," he said.
O'Neal did not play again in the regular season. He sat out the New York Knicks playoff series then tried to return in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against his old team, the Miami Heat. O'Neal logged 8 1/2 minutes in the 97-81 victory but woke up in considerable pain the next morning. His final game was two days later, when he toiled for three minutes of Game 4 before Celtics coach Doc Rivers pulled him for good.
In the final weeks of the the playoffs, O'Neal, over the objections of team physician Brian McKeon, had "more than five" cortisone shots in his Achilles in an attempt to play against the Heat.
"Doc (McKeon) kept telling me, 'No, no,' but I wanted to play so badly," O'Neal said. "My feeling was, 'If it ruptures, it ruptures.' The Celtics were so good to me I wanted to do everything I could to get back on the court for them."
Throughout his time on the sideline, Shaq said, he continued to do rehab as well as work on the treadmill and the exercise bike. He swam each evening at the Thoreau Club in Concord and shot a number of late-night free throws in at the Lincoln-Sudbury High School gymnasium across the street from his rented Sudbury home. He lost 35 pounds and was "feeling great everywhere except for that one little spot behind my heel."
Shaq said McKeon recommended surgery that would "clean up" the area around the Achilles, but O'Neal revealed the recovery time would be close to nine months.
"I really, really thought about coming back," he said, "but this Achilles is very damaged and if I had it done the recovery would be so long we'd have same outcome as this last year -- everyone sitting around and waiting for me.
"I didn't want to let people down two years in a row. I didn't want to hold Boston hostage again.
"I'm letting everybody know now so Danny (Ainge) and the organization can try to get younger talent. I would love to come back, but they say once the Achilles is damaged it's never the same. I don't want to take that chance."
O'Neal said his final months in Boston included some of the darkest days of his career because "I just hated to let the city of Boston down. I really grew to love the place. Everyone was so welcoming to me and treated me so great. They believed in me and they took care of me, especially the great people of Sudbury. I love that town."
O'Neal also had effusive praise for Rivers, whom, he said, was "one of the best I ever played for."
"I thought Doc was fabulous," O'Neal said. "He stressed 'team' all the time, never wavered on that. He kept everyone together. He's an amazing coach. I want to congratulate him on his five years (extension).
"He deserves it. He loves the organization, loves the players, and we all love him back."
O'Neal is acutely aware the Celtics posted a record of 21-4 when he was able to play 20 or more minutes this season. The chemistry he shared with the Big Three (Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen) and Rajon Rondo, he said, will be an enduring memory, leaving him to wonder what would have happened had he stayed healthy.
"We were supposed to win this year but 'supposed' doesn't count," he said. "The path was there for us. All the so-called super powers were gone -- LA, San Antonio. I really feel if I was on the court we would have done it, but I don't believe in 'ifs.' "
O'Neal said he wasn't prepared yet to reminisce about his long and prolific career, which produced three championships with the Lakers and one with the Heat. "Let's save that for the press conference on Friday," said O'Neal, who will hold that media event at his Isleworth home.
