สำหรับคนที่ไม่รู้จัก Hitman เป็นเกมแนวแอ็กชัน-ลอบเร้น ที่ผู้เล่นรับบทเป็น Agent 47 นักฆ่าระดับมืออาชีพที่ออกเดินทางทั่วโลก เพื่อสังหารเป้าหมายตามคำสั่ง ซึ่งผู้เล่นสามารถสังหารเป้าหมายได้หลากหลายวิธีการ ไม่ว่าจะใช้ปืนสไนเปอร์สังหารจากระยะไกล ใส่ยาพิษที่อาหารหรือเครื่องดื่ม หรือสังหารด้วยการจัดฉากว่าเป็นอุบัติเหตุ ซึ่งจะใช้วิธีการแบบไหน ก็ขึ้นอยู่กับการตัดสินใจของผู้เล่น
