世界青年日
International Youth Day

是一個由聯合國發起設立的節日。第一個國際青年日是在2000年8月12日 。聯合國在1999年通過了第54/120號決議，將每年的8月12日定為國際青年日。

國際青年日的設立為各國政府重視青年問題提供了契機。各地在國際青年日這一天，會舉辦演唱會、研討會、文化活動和會議等各種形式的慶祝活動，通常會有當地的政府官員參加這些活動。

2021年的主題為:轉型糧食體系:青年創新促進人類和地球健康。可想而知，還有另外一個更優先的事項，那就是冠狀病毒COVID-19的大爆發，幸運的是，在台灣政府、指揮所、人民共同努力之下，我們不只控制了本日的本土個案數量，也從三級降至了二級。

除了這點，我做這個節日還有別的原因，那就是青年參與政治運動。

從好幾年前的太陽花學運開始，這幾年的香港雨傘運動、泰國學運，都讓我們見識到了許多青年的決心與發聲，卻也發生了各種與家庭與社會與國家原先的平衡，這也是從我聽到報導者所錄製的廣播「一對「豬嘴情侶」的流亡故事：用港點外賣，把香港故事傳出去、把家找回來」，聽完後我才再想，當年發生了太陽花運動，有多少年輕人跟自己的父母或親戚有了爭執甚至斷絕關係。

直到現在，我還是覺得，勇敢說出自己的想法，並且接納、討論、思考，是成為更好的個人、族群、社會的一條途徑。

「用生命影響生命」—為台灣而教，成為更好的自己！

今天是聯合國國際青年日（International Youth Day），這個節日的意義在於喚起世人對於青年議題的關注，並正視青年改變未來的力量。在這個日子，我想向一群特別的年輕人說謝謝，也向大家分享他們的故事。

他們是 為台灣而教 Teach For Taiwan - TFT。TFT致力於改變台灣教育不平等的現況，也在行動及倡議的過程中，帶來翻轉教育的思維啟發。TFT每年都會招募伙伴，前往教育資源相對不足的地區，展開兩年的教師服務。

TFT老師們帶著「用生命影響生命」的理念，希望藉由相互陪伴、相互參與，協助孩子成為更好的自己，而自己也能在反思中不斷成長，透過發揮影響力的同時，成為更好的人。所以，TFT不只是一個偏鄉教育計畫，追尋教育的本質，也是一個人才培育計劃，孕育更多的社會改革者。

上週六是TFT一年一度的啟程儀式。我透過錄影的方式，祝福即將投入兩年教育工作的年輕伙伴，以及完成兩年計劃、即將踏上職涯旅程的年輕朋友，打開自己的生命，擁抱未曾有過的感受與挑戰；去被影響，也影響他人，成為一個創造改變的人。

我也以「社會視野」、「利他精神」和「領導力」這三種特質，與所有參與TFT的伙伴共勉，期許大家像是一個一個的種子，在不同地方讓「希望」生根發芽，促使台灣社會生長出更多元、精彩的樣貌。

年輕人正在創造未來，年輕人的未來就是台灣的大未來。我要感謝TFT創辦人安婷和TFT團隊，在教育現場，持續捲動正向的力量，帶領台灣社會，一步一步實現共好的願景，邁向更好的未來。

You may have noticed buildings across the island, such as Marina Bay Sands, Sports Hub and the Esplanade, lit up in green and white last night.

This was part of the annual #DrugFreeSG Light-Up to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June.

This year is a milestone in Singapore’s anti-drug drive. It is the 50th anniversary of the Central Narcotics Bureau, which keeps our country drug-free through preventive education programmes, up to date laws, effective enforcement and youth engagement.

Drugs affect not just the abusers, but their loved ones and the wider community as well. Let’s keep up the fight against this scourge and keep Singapore drug-free! – LHL

Given the continued virulence of the virus, it is still unclear when is the reopening date for 2021. These decisions carry enormous social and economic implications and will have lasting effects on educators, on children and youth, on their parents – especially women – and indeed on societies as a whole.

My parent group chats is abuzz with these speculation – especially those who have been sending their kids to Kindergartens and/or private schools. With many losing jobs or getting huge pay cuts at work, the question on whether they can continue paying for their kids school education is on their minds. Pleas for rebates and discounts has been a continuous debate for most and even for us, while waiting for news from our school, we are now contemplating whether we should one, pull them out and try to apply for government schooling, two, homeschool and hire private tutors which is a bit more cost friendly or three “wait and see” method.

There are pros and cons for all these choices above, but at the end of the day, we want what’s best for the child. How are our children going to manage physically, emotionally and mentally with whatever decision we make?

What are the other possible solutions or options? Is there a possibility of hybrid learning and/or online schooling elsewhere that will be accepted by the school later on?

He is a consultant Psychologist for MENSA Malaysia and carries a wealth of experience in the education sector, and today, we will discuss these hot topics and how to prepare your child to thrive in this new world.
