SCAM ALERT!! PLEASE BEWARE.
I want to share my personal experience with everyone here so that no one will fall into the trap of such scam tactic.
I received a call at about 4.30 pm on the 4th Jan 2017 from this number 03 2719 9999 which claimed to be calling from Aeon Credit Card Center. The guy who introduced himself as "Jeffrey" claimed that I have made a transaction of RM 4,299 from KLIA Lazo Diamond and requested me to confirm. Immediately I responded that I did not make such purchase and told him if such case has happened, I'll will make a police report later the evening.
Jeffrey "advised" me to call the Bank Negara Malaysia first before I head to the Police station , explaining that it's almost 5.00 pm and Bank Negara's operation hours will be closing soon. He even comforted me that not to worry and I should make a report to this Fraud Case Department- "Direct Line" 03-27884464. I replied OK and hung up.
I took a moment to ponder on it. To play safe, I decided to Google for Bank Negara's main line from its official website which the number is 03-26988044. I told them my story and want to make a report on it, the operator told me that luckily I have called the genuine Bank Negara, not the number which he gave me. Apparently, this scam has been happening for a period of time and many have fallen into victims of this scam tactics.
I have called back 1st number which "Jeffrey" has called me from (03-2719 9999) and it seems that it's really Aeon Call Center and the operator told me this is not the first time she has received calls saying that they have been scammed.
Then I even called the "Bank Negara Direct Line" (03-27884464) and it sounded very professional with IVR (interactive voice respond). A guy picked up and I pretended to be reporting the incident. He asked me for my details and this is when I cannot take it and straight away yelled at him!
He responded by scolded me back in vulgar words and hung up.
I have made a police report on this and would like to share my story with everyone here so no one will become the next victim.
