Gone Gold หรือแผ่นทองในอุตสาหกรรมแผ่นนั้น คือแผ่นมาสเตอร์ต้นฉบับ ที่ใส่ชิ้นงานที่เสร็จสมบูรณ์ทั้งหมดลงไป และแผ่นทองนี้จะเป็นแผ่นต้นแบบที่ใช้ก๊อปปี้ไปสู่แผ่นอื่น ๆ ทั้งหมด

ในแวดวงเทคโนโลยีหรืออุตสาหกรรมเกมมีรูปแบบการทำงานที่คล้ายกันคือนำไฟล์เกมหรือซอฟต์แวร์ที่พัฒนาเสร็จสิ้นแล้วมาใส่ไว้ในแผ่นทองหรือแผ่นมาสเตอร์ ก่อนที่จะเตรียมการก๊อปปี้สำเนาข้อมูลในแผ่นออกไปเรื่อย ๆ เพื่อเตรียมปล่อยขาย

แรกเริ่ม Apple ใช้คำนี้ว่า Golden Master ก่อนที่บริษัทซอฟต์แวร์อื่น ๆ รวมไปถึงวงการเกมที่นำไปใช้ด้วย ก่อนที่คำนี้จะถูกเรียกอีกแบบว่า Gone Gold อย่างที่เราเห็นกันในปัจจุบัน มีความหมายว่าจะใช้เวลาไม่นานหลังจากขั้นตอนนี้ ก่อนที่สินค้าหรือผลิตภัณฑ์จะถูกเผยแพร่

ในปัจจุบันด้วยการที่เทคโนโลยีเกมมีความเป็นดิจิทัลมากขึ้น การที่ทีมงานพูดถึง Gone Gold ไม่ได้หมายความว่าเริ่มปั๊มแผ่นเพื่อส่งออกแล้วอย่างเดียว แต่ยังหมายถึงการที่ตัวเกมถูกส่งเข้าสู่ขั้นตอนการขอรับรองจากเจ้าของสิทธิเครื่องเกม Console อย่าง Sony และ Microsoft เป็นต้น

เกร็ดเล็กน้อย : CD Projekt RED เคยประสบปัญหานี้มาแล้วกับ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt แต่ในกรณีนั้นคือการตัดฟีเจอร์บางอย่างออกแล้วใส่มาในการอัปเดตทีหลัง และในตอนนั้น CD Projekt RED ก็แก้ไขปัญหาได้อย่างรวดเร็ว จึงไม่มีปัญหาแบบในตอนนี้
