For everyone that's been seeing WOWO ads all over their social media... I'm curious however how a product like WOWO compares to a famous drugstore one. After all, big brands have big budgets for branding & marketing to ensure their products look legit. But when it comes down to ingredients? But all in all I personally wouldn't try products (especially any collagen drinks/pills/etc) that I'm not sure is certified by regulatory government bodies.
Guys, is your FB being flooded by distributors of Wowo Shampoo (now renamed to wouwou)? I've been seeing their posts for months and my curiosity increased as I see more and more before/after photos circulating on the internet of people looking bald to growing LOTS of hair (they might have copy/paste the pics blindly over time)...
.
The shampoo is marketed to be vegan, FREE from harmful chemicals and touted to be safe to use on elderly, babies and even pregnant mothers.
.
That got me even more curious as I went to their website (http://wowo.com.sg/) but couldn't find the full ingredients list besides showing their "main ingredients" that are beneficial for hair and scalp. So I used their site's live chat function and obtained the ingredients list as per screenshots attached.
.
To my horror, the first few ingredients are chemicals and can be pretty irritating to the skin especially for those who have more sensitive skin 😰😰
.
The ingredients that are worth my concern are:
.
- COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE ( associated with irritation and allergic contact dermatitis, reactions that could be due to the ingredient itself or to impurities present in it, such as 3-dimethylaminopropylamine)
>> this is DERIVED FROM COCONUT but it is synthesized in the lab, meaning nt natural. Can read more cases here on allergic reactions to this ingredient: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/…
.
- AMMONIUM LAURETH SULFATE (an ammonium salt of ethoxylated lauryl sulfate, a surfactant that contains PEG (polyethylene glycol) in its structure. May be contaminated with potentially toxic manufacturing impurities such as 1,4-dioxane)
>> ALS is considered better than SLS as a surfactant in shampoos but it still can be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a known carcinogen when it is being synthesized in the lab.
.
- PHENOXYETHANOL (Other HIGH concerns: Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Occupational hazards; Other MODERATE concerns: Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive))

So guys, please DO study each and every ingredient in your daily products to ensure that they are clean and free from harmful chemicals and not believe whatever marketing materials you see on the internet!
.
Chemicals get absorbed into our bloodstream within 26 short seconds upon contact with skin. So choose your products wisely.
.
Do you really NEED these synthetic chemicals to make shampoo? There are better choices in the market out there (not many but there ARE more natural alternatives such as buy a plant-based shampoo or DIY your own with Dr. Bronners + water. It is definitely achievable.
.
And I agree that chemicals are everywhere, but we as consumers can make informed decisions and limit our exposure to such chemicals. Insulin in a child with type 1 diabetes is life-saving. Antibiotics in someone with bacterial meningitis are life-saving. Magnesium infusions in a pregnant woman with eclampsia can save both mom and baby.
.
BUT long-term exposure to harmful chemicals in small doses from our personal care products and cleaning agents on a DAILY basis can cause chronic health problems in the long-run. You don't see it now, doesn't mean they don't exist. Do you see more kiddos suffering from eczema at an increasing rate? Kiddos that go into puberty at a premature age? How about other issues like insomnia, constant fatigue? Think about it for yourselves!
.
Let me emphasise - I have NOTHING AGAINST WOWO as a brand. Even big brands like Johnson & Johnson do get sued for having Talc in their baby powder (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-39816799). So brands have to be careful when they market products to pregnant mothers & babies in particular.

P.S. Wowo Distributors are aggressively biting back saying that I feel salty or red eyes or trying to gain more followers? Is there a need? If your stuff is truly natural, then there's no room for me to comment much... Well, I believe as informed consumers, we have the right to know what are in our products before we decide to use them or not :)
