I always feel hesitant to post videos like this. But I have learned that we cannot control what people say or think about us, but what we can control is what we do. And I choose to share this inspiring experience I have had yesterday.
A few weeks, ago, I was at Pugon Bakeshop eating my favourite Super Lugaw, as you already know how much of a fan I am. And then, I remembered a campaign on TikTok which was #LugawIsEssential. I asked the owner (he is very private so I am not gonna name him) if they have had a feeding program. At this point, I already know what they do for the community. He replied that they actually have a feeding program where some business owners in Boracay come together to feed the locals.
I got excited to have known this because I have been wanting to film moments like this- not influenced by other people, but just me doing it because I love doing it. And so I asked them to invite me next time so I could capture it. They agreed.
I honestly had no idea how fascinating it was until I experience it. Yesterday, I came along with the guys, we got lost, but we arrived with so many kids waiting for us with their bowls and glasses. The entire time, I was hiding my emotion. I get so emotional when I see things like this on social media and the impact of seeing and experiencing it in person is quite bizarre- in a great way.
We were accompanied by Malay Municipal Police Station, a few people who organised the BARANGAYanihan crowd (yes, there's indeed a program like that), and the people from Boracay Community Sharing Group. Surprisingly, I did not know I was with the people from the Community Sharing Group.
Okay, I just realise I am writing too much, so I am going to make my point of this post now.
You see, I have met a lot of people in my life. I have met people who complained about our community all the time and do nothing even they have the influence, power and connections to do so. And we have people who do not talk about the problems in our community, they see it, and instantly do something about it in hiding. Not all heroes wear capes, they said. And it is true.
I have seen the struggles on this beautiful island, and I am blessed and grateful to have been a part of this activity. It restores my belief in humanity- that somehow, even with the lockdowns happening, people doing their best to get by, there are a few good people who hide in the dark and are helping people silently.
And thank you.
To the policemen of Malay Municipal Police Station,
to the people from the Boracay Community Sharing group, and to Pugon Bakeshop/Bar & Cafè and Salaver Clinic - Boracay, thank you for allowing me to experience this inspiring moment. I hope and pray that people from other municipalities and cities would see this video and be inspired by what you do. Please, please, please, I ask you, to continue being the gold standard. Thank you for allowing me to capture it without giving you a heads up.
And for my final note, we do not need to wait for our government to help. We can help one another. If we have a little bit of something to share with our neighbours, it is already a great start. All we need is compassion and little kindness especially during these lockdowns.

Pompeo叫人積極篤灰
美帝笑面虎溫馨提示美國政客同政府各級官員,甚至地方市政層級(municipal level),如果有中國嘅外交人員接觸佢地嘅話,唔好覺得係基於友好或者合作("it is likely not in the spirit of cooperation or friendship”),其實可能係想影響甚至滲透活動(“influence and espionage campaigns”)。
然後竟然鼓勵篤灰!講到好似幾十年前少年警訊教小朋友舉報罪行咁嘅?
“The federal government can’t police every bit of this predatory and coercive behavior. We need your help...Protecting American interests requires vigilance, vigilance that starts with you – and all state legislators, regardless of party.”

Petition Calling on European Leaders Against National Security Law for Hong Kong
The Beijing government, with utter disregard of the opposition from the international community and Hong Kong people, seeks to promulgate a controversial and detrimental National Security Bill.
The Chinese Communist Party have been clamping down on human rights activists, lawyers, reporters, civilians as well as foreigners in the name of "National Security". Such is the aggravating human rights condition in China. Under the banner of subversion of the state, China oppressed any investigation on the "Toufu-drag" construction works or poisonous milk-powder. Once the "National Security Bill" (the Bill) had been written into the law, it would inevitably become a tool for oppression and censorship against those who seek the truth and tell the truth.
The severity of the Bill is highlighted by the establishment of an enforcement agency. This will shake up the dynamics of Hong Kong in every possible aspect. The enforcement agency will render the Hong Kong government a mere figurehead and replaces the Hong Kong Police Force as the major ruling authority. It is no surprise that there will be renditions to China for trial and detention. This irrevocably jeopardizes the promises to rule of law, human rights, and an independent judiciary as laid down in the Sino-British Joint Declaration. Hong Kong can no longer maintain its status as an open and liberal international metropolis.
The EU, being China's most significant trading partner and having made the third most investments in Hong Kong, will surely be affected in terms of its investment interests and management conditions; other European countries that have a stake in Hong Kong will also be undermined. The vagueness in what counts as foreign intervention leaves room for an aggressive interpretation by the Chinese government, who for the record utilizes these laws in threatening other countries. Foreigners in Hong Kong may be treated as hostages in accordance with China's diplomatic policies. The risks for foreign investors are self-explanatory.
With the Bill closing in, liberty and autonomy enjoyed by Hong Kong shall, without doubt, face utter compromise. We urge the governments of the UK, members States of the EU, namely Germany, France, and Italy, etc. as well as other non-EU European states, such Switzerland, to stand with freedom and democracy and to stand with Hong Kong in pressuring the Beijing government to retrieve its Bill. It is of the essence for friends of Hong Kong to take the action in the incorporation of the Magnitsky Act into the municipal law. We also urge countries dealing with China to insert clauses that protect Hong Kong's human rights into trade agreements.

Hindraf emerges from the shadows
THE ISSUE: The Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) was relatively unknown until it provided Indian Malaysians the opportunity to vent feelings pent up over 150 years. The grouping is led by lawyers and brothers P Uthayakumar and Waythamoorthy, who have taken up issues that have plagued the grassroots of a downtrodden community.
From alleged police brutality and deaths in custody, they duo have zeroed in on marginalisation and discrimination of Indians. In defence of the right to religion, they have also been calling attention to the demolition of Hindu temples nationwide.
The first sign of Hindrafs growing base of support was when it gathered some 2,000 Indians at Putrajaya to hand over a memorandum detailing the communitys problems. It did not even get the courtesy of a response.
Waythamoorthy then gave the campaign an instantly international image by suing the British government for RM14 trillion - on grounds that colonialists had brought Indians to Malaya as indentured labourers and later failed to factor in their interests when the Federal Constitution was being formulated.
The brothers, along with other Indian lawyers, began a nationwide roadshow to explain the suit and publicise Hindrafs intention to petition the British Queen to support the suit by appointing a Queens Counsel to represent Indian Malaysians.
On Oct 29, about a week before Deepavali, a century-old temple in Kampung Rimba Jaya in Padang Jawa, Selangor, was destroyed as part of a wider operation by the Shah Alam Municipal Council to clear a squatter settlement which included a surau.
This proved to be the proverbial straw - it even produced a rare sighting of MIC president S Samy Vellu, as Hindraf lawyers pitched into the chaos that ensued.
It was a short hop from that incident to the Nov 25 mass rally at Kuala Lumpur, which saw some 30,000 Indians backing a bid by Hindraf leaders to submit a petition to the British High Commission.
The police response was a crackdown on protesters, followed by charges of attempted murder (since dropped), illegal assembly and causing mischief. Five Hindraf leaders have been detained for two years under the Internal Security Act.
The communitys cause has resonated with individuals, civil society groups and political parties, even if some have distanced themselves from certain Hindraf claims.
Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has been pressured into meeting with Indian-based NGOs to hear the communitys long list of grouses.
