The Giethoorn, also known as the “Venice of the Netherlands”, is a “floating” village located in Overijssel, east of the Netherlands.
.
In the 19th century, Giethoorn produced peat. As the peat was continuously dug, the canal was gradually formed and was later used for transportation. When the residents were digging peat, they found a pile of remains of horns that had been buried alive because of the flood, thereby naming the village.
.
In the past, only reeds were grown in the Giethoorn. Given the villagers’ poor economic status, the villagers could only use the reeds to build the houses. The tradition was preserved until today as the village was evolved to be luxury real estate.
.
Next time, share the transportation and activities of Giethoorn, so stay tuned.

What I like most about Holland is that when you step out of the city you come across allot of nature and can see allot of wild life. However allot of people who has lived all their life in the city might never have seen a cow or a real chicken, i really advice you to try and see more nature and to respect it. Also went back to the Storm flood barier to explain what it is cause last time my batteries ran out just when I wanted to explain it.
