最近有看到同學們在討論如何有效地去學習托福單字和英漢字典，小編也來分享一下哈佛
老師所提供的一些托福單字學習的技巧及資源吧! ^^
想要快速累積托福單字量的同學時常會過度依賴線上的英漢字典，線上英漢字典雖然可以
幫你快速認識單字，可是我們常會發現在英漢字典中，兩個英文單字往往會用同一個中文
意思來解釋 (例如include, contain =包含)，而且翻譯的過程中也可能喪失單字本身一
些比較細微的定義，導致同學用詞不精準，在托福的口說和寫作就能看出同學有這一類的
問題。
所以英漢字典有點像腳踏車的輔助輪，適合初學者，但若長時間一直依賴它，就會越來越
跟不上其他人的學習速度了。另外，學習英文的最終目標當然是要能夠活用英語的思維跟
外國人從容地溝通，不能一直依靠英漢字典直接轉換兩種語言，以期達到流利的境界，畢
竟，要能夠在雙語之間自由而快速地轉換其實是需要花時間累積跟反覆練習的，因此，適
度地應用網路上的學習資源以培養自己對英文單字運用的熟悉度和正確的認知是有必要的
。
就線上資源而論，適合托福學習者的一個選擇是使用第二語言學習者字典 (OALD, M-W
Learner’s Dictionary)。這一些詞典通常會以例句的形式來幫助同學們更精準地使用一
些還不是這麼熟悉的英文單字；另一方面，比較高程度的英語學習者可以去使用全英字典
(Oxford Dictionaries Online, Collins English Dictionary, Merriam-Webster
Dictionary)，再接著搭配使用配詞典 (English Collocation Dictionary, Corpus of
Contemporary American English) 或使用Google Scholar 搜尋單字及該字所搭配應用的
片語 (multi-word chunks) 在學術文章中的用法及出現頻率，這樣才可以更精準地運用
單字及配合使用的片語 (e.g. acquire knowledge, not learn knowledge)。
同時在托福口說與寫作內文及邏輯的產出 (language production) 也會更為流暢，不需要
因為每一個字都要翻譯而導致停頓。
