On the first day of Chinese Lunar New year, all these news stories are making me cry.

I had an experience being detained in JFK for 3 hours few years ago when the border officer wanted to double check my I-visa.

It had already been a 16 hour flight from Taiwan. The room was full of Muslim families, babies were crying, no phone signal, no water or food, and when I finally got the chance to text my aunt who was waiting outside the airport, the officer stopped me from using my phone.

No one in that room knew how long the wait would be. And you could see the anxiety on every face still trying to smile at the immigration officer.

I remember that at one point I was intensely angry. Why am I even coming to this country and why should human beings be treated this way?

I got out in 3 hrs, while the Muslim families still sat in wait.

That anger and fear is back today.

My prayers go out to all the families that have to deal with this "extreme vetting " era.
