Blooms for only 3 - 5 days, Rafflesia is the world heaviest flower and can only bloom in perfect conditions usually in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. If you are visiting Sabah and would like to see this fascinating flower, Rafflesia Conservation Centre, Poring Hot Spring would be one of the great places to go.

Finally after 7 years of trying, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, fulfilled my dream to see the largest flower in the world!
It is called Rafflesia Arnoldii and is endemic to the rainforest of Sumatra and Borneo.
There used to be Rafflesia’s in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia, but this has become very rare and at my past two visits my mission to see this flower had failed.
With disappearing Rainforests, the numbers of these flowers are getting less. Attempts to grow them artificially didn’t work out so far, which means this flower can only grow in the wild!
It’s nickname “corpse lily” is well deserved - To attracts flies, it emits a smell which reminds of rotten flesh. This odour 🙊 comes in waves, most of the time it smelled more like mushroom.
