I did this quick test at BIRTV just to see which audio setup I would use while I was there. From the test I felt that directly using the Rode Smartlav gives me the best audio. As there is bit more bass in the audio, plus because there is so many wireless signals and I am don't want to be monitoring myself while filming the chance of any audio drop out will just ruin the video.
