<關於玩的閱讀3之1>

"I believe the rest of school (indeed, the rest of life) should become more like kindergarten." -- Mitchel Resnick, Lifelong Kindergarten ("我相信往後的學校教學，或甚至說一個人畢業後的人生，應該要更像幼兒園" -- MIT Media lab 米契爾•瑞斯尼克，“學習就像終身幼兒園”）

這本書應該是我今年讀過最冷門的一本，它是現代遊戲理論重要的經典著作。它經常被提及但似乎很少閱讀。我現在終於知道為什麼了，1938年歐洲學者所寫的書，真的好難讀啊！實在是沒辦法逐字逐句的從頭到尾看完，只好用整體框架式的念法並且專注在其中幾章，來獲得它的全貌。

作者是當時非常特立獨行的一位學者，雖然有許多歷史學家認為人的文化中，本來就有遊戲的成份，但他非常堅持人類的文化本質就是遊戲（也因此在當時的學界被排擠成邊緣人）。他花了很多的篇幅，先是舉例許多語言 （有提到中文的“玩”與“賽”）當中，“玩”的意義 ，包括比賽，嬉鬧，鬥智，甚至是禮儀。之後好幾張都是在講每個文化層面當中，“玩”的本質。例如在語言當中隱含和比喻的樂趣，在法律和法庭當中的博弈鬥智，在知識學習當中的猜謎，以及許多語言當中都有的作詩與對句 （搬到現代來，饒舌歌的battle大概就是這個意思吧！）。甚至在古時候，有些文化中的戰爭也是點到為止 （作者提到中國春秋時代貴族們之間禮貌的戰爭形式。今年我讀的另一本書當中有提到過）

本書帶來的經典架構就是對於玩的定義：
1. 玩是自願性的
2. 遊戲是有規則的 （例如輪流，然後不守規則會被討厭）
3. 界限會創造出來一個想像空間（所以有爽感）
4. 遊戲是從現實世界中抽離的 （大家都知道球賽的界線不是真的有一塊銅牆鐵壁擋在哪裡）
5. 遊戲主要不是為了利益

從小朋友玩鬼抓人，到瘋狂的球賽，或電玩的世界當中，不能看出這些元素。如果說人類不同於其他物種最大的能力，就是可以集體想像，那麼遊戲真的是一種極致的表現。

書中我覺得最有趣的一個點，是他說到 School (學校）到原本希臘字 “skhole" 是休指閒娛樂，或是用閒餘時間來討論有趣的事情，也就是說現在大部分的學校跟原本的意涵，幾乎是背道而馳啊！其實觀察大部分的小小孩都是喜歡學習喜歡探索的，好像都是開始上學的時候才感到學習的受挫（其實我也覺得小朋友“閱讀的樂趣常常是被“考試導向的讀書”給消滅了），真的蠻可惜的。這讓我想到我2017年讀的一本書 “Lifelong Kindergarten" 是我當年的Top 10，作者從小朋友最有效的學習方式，也就是遊戲當中，闡述終身學習最能持續的方法。或許在人工智慧越來越多做那些專精的事情時，人類的殺手級應用，在於“玩”的能力，從不同的觀點改變視角，把事情變有趣，把互動變有趣，在尋常的東西中，透過混搭與跳痛，創造出新的意義來！

找不到繁體中文翻譯的時候，我一直在想應該怎麼翻譯他的書名呢？書本一開始講到人類的學名 homo sapiens是 “智人” （思考是我們的本質），另一派理論是Homo fabers “製人”（製作是我們的本質）。依照作者的理論，人類應該要被稱作 Homo Ludens (拉丁文遊玩的意思）， 因為遊玩是我們的本質。這樣，我是否應該直接把書名翻譯為“𨑨迌人”呢？ 😂

喺一個訪問入面BMTH嘅主唱Oliver Sykes就提到，呢首歌係由佢同佢哋嘅琴佬Jordan仲有一部電腦，用咗5日去完成晒成首歌。當時佢哋仲喺東歐做緊巡迴表演，唯有喺酒店房Set up一個Studio去做好呢首歌。而喺歌詞方面，Oliver就提到本身佢都無咩靈感嘅，想寫關於隻遊戲但又唔想直接提，所以佢就周圍望下資料啦，望下小島秀夫嘅資料，又上下KOJIMA PRODUCTION嘅網頁周圍望下。當佢睇到喺KOJIMA PRODUCTION 載入畫面嗰句 FROM SAPIENS TO LUDENS嘅時候，靈感就嚟料啦。

Oliver就覺得，小島秀夫嘅價值觀係「創意係人類最大嘅財產同最大嘅希望，就算世界上所有嘢都無晒，人類都仲可以繼續適應同生存」。Oliver認為我哋會發明新嘅嘢，創造新嘅嘢，就算我哋同時做緊好多好過份嘅事。就好似當所有人都破壞緊個環境嗰陣，有一個16歲嘅細路就喺度研究緊用微生物去救個海洋。就好似Greta Thunberg咁，我哋可以做自己嘅領袖，我哋可以自己行動，我哋唔需要再等嗰啲企咗喺度嘅人。

BMTH以往嘅歌都係著重喺個人嘅感情同個人嘅狀況上面，就無話會提到個世界究竟係點樣。Oliver就提到，佢唔係一個想掂政治嘅人，亦都唔想寫政治嘅歌。但係寫環保議題根本無可能唔提到政治，所以呢個可以話係BMTH喺歌曲題材上面踏出嘅一小步。同時，呢首歌亦都鼓勵大家踏出自己嘅嗰一步，你唔踏出嗰一步，你又點樣同人建立一個聯繫呢？

喺曲風上面，我會形容係一首混合咗amo，That’s the spirit同埋Sempiternal三隻過往BMTH大碟風格嘅一首歌。Amo風格嘅電子迷幻前奏同埋音效，樂器、That’s the spirit咁上口嘅副歌再加埋Sempiternal嘅Breakdown。
