聽到問題的當下我停了一拍心跳
與其說驚訝 更多的是不捨和難過
.
四月的一個週一早晨
我在高雄中學和一些學弟妹分享我的生活
我說要把握時間 活在當下
也說要無愧於心 逐己所愛
.
我告訴其中一部分的音樂班同學
喜歡主修樂器的話請繼續享受 努力
根本不喜歡音樂的話
現在掉頭才不會誤了剩下的青春
.
我相信學弟妹都有認真聽我的分享
才會在結束後提出對我的問題
而且有好幾個人提出類似的問題
令我錯愕又不捨的問題
「是不是因為學長的職業是牙醫師 收入不錯所以才能追逐自己的興趣？」
在他們的教育和認知中 收入竟優先於興趣

感謝學弟在提問的時候有強調『提問時沒有冒犯的意思』 而不是酸溜溜的質疑
我執著於這個問題一週之久
然後請老師幫我向學弟妹轉達以下幾點：
.
1.我看過很多快樂的人 成功的人 都是追求自己熱愛的事物 發光發熱 同時藉此賺取生活費 因應社會 該職業的社經地位 也許高 也許低 但都是滿足快樂的�.
２.高收入的人不在少數 就以牙醫為例 難道是所有牙醫都有追求自己喜歡的事物嗎？都幸福美滿？身體健康？我想告訴你們的是：我從興趣中找到快樂和滿足 所以分享給你們 若非為了向升學關口的你們分享職業特色 我根本懶得提牙醫這塊 因為那不是我熱衷的事情 應該由熱衷於牙科治療的誰向你們口沫橫飛地說�.
3.錢是我們生活中的一部分 就只是一小部分 不是全部 也不是必要的 我們一定比上不足比下有餘 我個人喜歡往下比 因為更容易讓我感到滿足 往上比的話我可真窮 買不起豪宅 沒有跑車 遊艇 也不能任性地說不上班就不上班 說買奢侈品就買奢侈品
如果我們的水很多 可能可以裝滿大碗公 如果我們的水很少 可以換成一個瘦瘦高高的玻璃杯 也可以有一樣的水位高度 那代表著快樂和滿足的程度 在自己的能力範圍 盡該盡的責任 享受能夠享受的舒適 公寓 大樓 豪宅 別墅 各有合適的住客 然而都是一個安全舒服的家�.
最後要提 如果你的夢想是搭豪華郵輪 除了先攢足船票的錢 也可以應徵船上服務生的工作
又例如我大學的時候沒錢學馬術 我願意刷馬 掃馬廄一個下午 換得半小時的騎乘機會

So I will summarize it short and please forgive my grammar mistakes 😅

I was in my alma mater, Kaohsiung Senior High School, to give a speech to the students.
I shared with them my philosophy of life and suggest them follow their hearts, live in the present moment, do not regret.
.
I told students who majored in music, to keep enjoy in music and to work hard with their beloved musical instrument, but be brave to quit if this was not what they did enjoy in. Maybe they were forced by the society, parents or anything. Now is the most early time to save the rest of theirs youth from such a burden.
.
I knew they did listen carefully, that’s why they asked me some questions.
Many of them got the same question, which made me astonished and a bit sad,
“Do you think being a dentist with high income is the key enabling you to be engaged in your hobbies?”
Does this question mean they believe one’s income is more important than what one is interested in?
.
I cared about this question so much for one week after the speech.
And I asked their teacher to pass on to the cute and young, and maybe perplexed, students as following,
.
1.I’ve seen many people who are happy and successful. They are devoted to what they love and get money for living from it. He or she might be rich or poor, upper class or lower class, depending on the definition of the society, but their contentment and joy cannot be defined�.
2. There are a lot of people with high income. Take dentists as an example, is every dentist looking for what he loves? Or happy? Healthy? I find my happiness from my hobbies, that’s why I share this with you. Dentistry should be shared by some dentist who are enthusiastic about dentistry, not me. I shared my occupation to you only because you are facing the college entrance timing.�.
3. Money is a part of our lives, a little part of our lives. Not the whole life, and not necessary either. We are richer than many people, and at the same time, poorer than many people. I would rather compare myself with those poorer than me, because that makes me feel better, and feeling is the most important thing for a person. When I compare myself with those rich men, I am nothing, I can’t afford a villa, a personal airplane, a yacht.
If we have a lot of water, we can fill a big pot. If we have little water, we can fill a thin glass and reach the same height of water level, which represents the degree of contentment.
Make clear who we are, and take our responsibility, and enjoy what we deserve.
There are different people for different places, apartments, condominium, mansion, villa, however, the common point of them are being a nice and safe cozy home.

If you want to get on a cruise ship, you can earn enough money for the ticket or get the job as a waiter on the ship.
When I couldn’t afford the fee for equestrian class, I worked in the stable and took care of the horses for an afternoon to get the chance to ride the horse for half an hour

北美領航計畫: 職場上的導師及超強夥伴， 一年心得及推薦 (& 新一期報名啦）

過去一年多， 我除了忙碌的上班及家庭生活， 也參與了北加州清華校友會和北京/新竹兩岸清華企業家協會聯合創辦的領航計畫。 我一年多前從公司參與過的同事介紹推薦，研究了領航計畫的細節後， 我也迫不及待的申請， 並很榮幸的被選中參與第六期的領航計畫。


去年的我大概有 7 年工作經驗， 工作上有一定的積累， 但在工作的方向上，有時候也有迷失或是希望有更資深導師指導的時候。 我在公司會和我的 manager、 skip manager 討論我的職業規劃， 然而在比較大的職業方向或是個人選擇上，我希望有更多第三方角度的導師或是同才可以和我激盪想法並且給我建議， 讓我職業可以更上層樓，領航計畫希望培育北美華人社區的領袖， 深度溝通、拓展人脈， 並協助職業發展， 我想應該是我們可以得到公司外最好的輔導資源了。


領航的宗旨、介紹大家可以從領航頁面來了解。 我這裡就具體用我的經驗來分享， 讓大家了解如果你被錄取後大概可能的經歷。 我領航被分配的小組導師有 Facebook, Google 的 director， 也有熱門上司公司的 C-level 的管理層。 小組成員則是遍佈灣區各知名科技公司的資深工程師，並也有幾位工程經理。 因為疫情的關係， 我們從開/閉幕典禮、課程、活動都是在在線上進行。


領航的課程是由各個小組自己規劃， 小組成員自己討論，並和導師提課程 proposal， 導師在課程時間再依據內容給予指導建議。 舉例來說， 我們的小組在過往的幾個月， 從開幕式到最後閉幕典禮之間，我們每週都會線上討論 (風雨無阻， 我們一共有 26+ 週週間晚上有在線上聚會討論， 只有 Christmas 那週讓大家休息， 當然如果真的有事的話還是可以請假， 只是我們組上一般都會有一半以上的人參加週會)。 我們一開始會先 brainstorm 討論大家有興趣的方向， 再投票來決定我們幾次課程方向。


決定的方向之後， 我們會自願/選出 2 位夥伴來先設計第一版的課程提案， 並且尋找組內 1-2 位有相關主題的問題的夥伴來當 case study 。因為每次都是不同的夥伴規劃及他們親身困擾的問題，大家在課程參與上有更深刻的體驗。 在課程提案出來後， 我們小組會先模擬上課， 除了給予大綱內容建議外， 也會就 case study 學員給予我們反饋。 我們自我模擬後， 負責規劃的學員會再修改， 到每次和導師上課前， 我們至少會經歷過 2 次的模擬及潤飾， 確保我們的問題在給導師看的時候都是經過深思熟慮及迭代後的。


領航的導師陣容超級堅強， 從各大科技公司的高階主管， 到創業家、創投， 可以從導師頁面這裡查看所有參與的導師 (其實應該還有一些導師沒有列出， 我們組的其中個一位導師就還沒有被更新放到名單上)。我們的組除了 6 次的討論課程， 在去年底的時候還得到導師們的特別加開 1:1 時間，更深入和導師討論我們自己的情況。 導師們每次在課程上， 都給出對我們主題相關問題的深刻的看法、還有許多實用的心法技巧， 我自己每次課程完都寫下滿滿的好幾頁的筆記！


總結來說， 將近一年的領航活動， 讓我結識同組優秀的成員， 大家每週閒聊、討論許多工作、生活上的難題，幫忙彼此。從導師的課程， 我學習到職業上做事的道理及技巧， 除此之外，導師們都能感同身受我們的困惱， 也常會用他們過去的經驗例子來告訴我們他們自己面對類似問題的情況及他們如何發現、整理、及克服的。 有些困難並不是知道後幾天幾週就能立刻解決的， 常要幾個月甚至幾年的努力耕耘， 但克服後就海闊天空地進到下一個階段。 時常自我反思，深入了解自我、及不要 run away from a problem 是我從導師們學到最重要的幾個觀念。


寫了這麼多， 最後來做一個簡單的 Q&A 吧：

Q: 請問只有灣區的人可以參加嗎？

A; 計畫有分美西及美東的組， 每個地區的導師組成不太一樣， 可以參考領航計畫的導師頁面查看， 但基本上是面向北美華人社群， 所以如果你在北美工作的話都可以報名。


Q: 我只有一點經驗、 不是 tech lead 或 manager 等級以上 ， 或是我對創業比較有興趣，請問還可以報名嗎？

A: 可以的， 職業組有分稍微資淺的 1 年以上工作經驗的組及資深組，資深組的光譜很廣，有超級資深的 senior manager /director 的組及一般資深組 XD。 此外也有創業組， 希望培養全職創業者。


Q: 我不是 Software Engineer， 我是 PM/ designer/ data scientist/ hardware engineer/ finance / or 任何你可以想到的職業， 請問可以報名嗎？

A: 可以的， 計畫沒有特別說只招工程師， 我看到也有許多不同職業別的夥伴加入。 從活動頁面上說： “如果你想成為未來的科技領袖職業，如果你想走上發展的快車道，如果你想在創業路上得到幫助，那你就可能領航計劃的標準 ”， 所以只要你想要成為未來的科技領袖， 就都可以報名的！

A: 我不是清華的畢業生， 可以報名嗎？

Q: 可以的， 我自己也不是清華的畢業生，錄取的夥伴畢業學校其實蠻多元的！

Q: 除了組上的活動， 還有什麼活動嗎？

A: 有的， 開幕式及閉幕式都有 keynote speech， 一年中也有一些全部大組的活動。 一些組的活動也有開放其他組旁聽， 所以活動還挺多采多姿的。


Q: 你們組上的成員這一年有什麼成長呢？

A: 這是個好問題， 過去一年， 我們組上的成員， 有一位升職成 engineer manager， 兩位面試到更心儀的公司， 此外，每一位都藉由學習到的心法， 有深刻的反思，和自己的 manager / peer 有 career conversation ， 更好的溝通自我的期待及目標， 及得到更符合自己的 scope 的機會。

The pickup, known as the Nissan Frontier in Mexico and South America, marks another milestone in the company’s Nissan NEXT transformation plan.

Over the many decades since the first Nissan pickup hit the road, the Nissan Navara has continued to accompany and empower customers in many facets of their lives.

Building on more than 80 years of Nissan pickup heritage, it stays true to the company’s belief in bringing advanced technologies to as many customers as possible.

A reliable partner for work or travel, the new Nissan Navara comes with many best-in-class technologies, including an array of Nissan Intelligent Mobility features and safety systems, making it the most advanced Navara yet.

“We packaged the new model with a full set of advanced technologies to ensure enhanced dynamic performance on- and off-road, as well as safety and comfort ushering in a new age of toughness, tech, and peace of mind,” said Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s chief operating officer. “For our customers it means confidence, driving pleasure, practicality and pride of ownership.”

Among the Nissan Intelligent Mobility features that will be available across the global Navara and Frontier lineup is Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, which monitors the second vehicle ahead as well as the vehicle directly in front to reduce the risk of multi-car accidents. Intelligent Emergency Braking activates the brakes to avoid collisions, reducing the stress of driving in traffic or on busy streets.

Intelligent Around View Monitor uses four cameras to help drivers notice people and cars surrounding and approaching the vehicle, making it easier to parallel park or to position the vehicle when hitching to a trailer. New to the system is an off-road monitor, which checks surrounding obstacles at low speeds when in four-wheel drive mode.

The new model features* a strengthened rear axle, increased payload capacity, additional truck bed volume and a new integrated step in the rear bumper for easier access to the truck bed. A new steering rack has been adopted to enhance maneuverability at low speeds and steering response across the speed range.

It offers a quiet and comfortable ride thanks to significant decrease of vibration and improved noise isolation.

These new features make the vehicle the ultimate travel and worksite partner, prepared to take on new challenges while still offering optimal room, comfort, safety and ease of work.

The new model features an “unbreakable” design language. It introduces a new ruggedly bold, stylish exterior made for extreme elements.

“The new Navara has a very recognizable look, but it’s now more imposing thanks to its high command structure, new interlocking frame grille and new high-tech, squared C-shaped headlamps,” said Ken Lee, Nissan’s senior design director for pickups and frame SUVs.

or the first time for the Navara and Frontier, Nissan will offer the PRO-4X grade, a style package aimed at adventure lovers and travelers craving an escape from their daily routine. The PRO-4X grade comes with its own athletic look, with a black emblem, orange-accented front bumper, black grille, door handles, roof racks and running boards accented by 17-inch black wheels and all-terrain tires.

The new pickup goes on sale in December in Thailand, with other markets to follow later.
