在遊戲業界有許多知名的遊戲開發者。有些人有名到提到遊戲的名稱就會聯想到他（或是她）。這一類的人，媒體通常會稱他（她）們為『某某遊戲之父（之母）』。而在眾多的遊戲當中，有款被戲稱為精神時光屋的遊戲《文明帝國》，這款遊戲的創造者席德梅爾（Sid Meier）也是一位相當知名的遊戲設計者，他也被稱為『文明帝國之父』。
席德梅爾和他的夥伴Bill Stealey是在1982年的時候創立Microprose（銀狐曾經寫過一篇文章介紹這間公司）這間遊戲公司的。這間遊戲公司現在已經消失（先與Spectrum HoloByte合併，然後被Hasbro Interactive併購），所以新一代的遊戲玩家可能沒有聽過這間公司的名稱。不過如果各位是銀狐那個年代的玩家，絕對會對這間公司很有印象。
和其他的遊戲公司不同，Microprose這間遊戲公司當時主力的產品是飛行模擬以及軍武相關的遊戲。像是《F-15 鷹式戰鬥機（F-15 Strike Eagle）》、《飛行坦克（Gunship）》、《死亡潛航（Silent Service）》等等遊戲都是該公司相當知名的作品。而且這些遊戲製作的非常精良，除了有不錯的擬真度之外也有相當高的遊戲性。
1987年Microprose推出了《大海盜（Sid Meier’s Pirates!）》。在那個年代大多數的遊戲開發團隊都不大，因此也有不少知名的遊戲開發人員。不過像是這樣直接把創作者的大名掛在遊戲前，把它當作一個品牌來宣傳的方式還是非常的少見。遊戲公司這麼作是想要藉用席德梅爾以往的名聲來宣傳這個新型態的遊戲，不過這款遊戲的表現也非常的出色。
讓席德梅爾的名聲變得更響亮的《文明帝國（Sid Meier’s CIvilization）》則是於1991年推出的。這款遊戲才一推出就立刻創下銷售150萬套的成績，在那個年代是相當可怕的銷售數字。這款遊戲的推出，創造出了一種新的類型。當時的遊戲雜誌，將這種遊戲類型稱之為『4X』遊戲，從此就成為大家稱呼此類遊戲的名稱。
根據維基百科上記載的資料，席德梅爾參與過超過五十款以上遊戲的開發。雖然說其中也有一些遊戲他只是擔任支援或是咨詢的工作，也有一些遊戲在市場上的銷售反應不太理想。不過在他所有的作品中，大多數的遊戲都深深受到玩家們的喜愛。他對於遊戲的設計有一套自我的理念和心得，這些年也透過各種管道讓大眾瞭解。
八旗文化取得了2020年發售的《Sid Meier’s Memoir!: A Life in Computer Games》這本席德梅爾的回憶錄，書名譯為《創造文明的人: 傳奇遊戲大師-席德．梅爾回憶錄》。在這本書中，記錄了席德梅爾在遊戲業裡開發了這麼多遊戲的詳細記錄，其中也包含了許多不為人知或是曾經在網路上聽到或是看到過的一些傳說。如果您對這些過往的歷史有興趣，或是想瞭解席德梅爾設計遊戲的想法的話，那麼這本書是您不能錯過的。

I recently took a solo day trip to Maokong Village in Taipei, Taiwan. It was a nice opportunity to step away from the city and to fully immerse myself in the beauty of nature.
My intention for the month of August was deep rest, and as a practice, I've been making it a priority to explore more of this island and to do things that bring me joy. There's so much more to life than just work but because we live in the society that we do, it's easy to get caught up in just trying to survive.
I hope that these silent vlogs can be a simple reminder of the little things in life~
