（思忖著父親節）我來台灣快10年了，由於距離太遠我爸至今沒能來看我。他的身體不好，加上飲食的問題，長途飛行對他來說將會是一場噩夢，所以我總是回到美國，從沒想過要他飛來台灣。不過，在他 2017 年再婚後，飛來台灣成為可能的事，兩個人一起旅行比一個人旅行容易多了，因此他們計劃拜訪我，並打算在去年三月第一次拜訪台灣。不幸的是，幾乎所有航班都在 2020 年春季取消，因此這次旅行並沒有成形，且可能不再有下一次機會......我昨晚和他談過，明年也許我可能會飛回美國，至少我們還能在美國團聚，他不再單單只是個父親，而是一個祖父，我哥哥已經生了兩個小孩，我還沒有見過他們，雖然現在仍然不是一個很好的旅遊時機，但我們希望明年疫情會好轉。

我想作為父親是一項艱鉅的工作。回想起來，我知道我沒有讓它變得容易。他大部分時間也是單親父親，在我母親去世 22 年後，他終於再婚了，非常恭喜他！我最後一次見到他，還是在這張四年前的他的婚禮上(照片中)。再過3天我父親將滿 70 歲，祝福我的爸爸和所有的爸爸，尤其是所有的單身爸爸，父親節快樂。

(Fathers Day Musings) I've been in Taiwan for almost 10 years now, but my dad has so far been unable to visit me here. He's in poor health and has a lot of food issues that make plane travel a logistical nightmare. So I always went back to the USA and never expected him to be able to come here. After he married in 2017 though, it became a real possibility. Traveling together is easier than traveling alone, so they made plans to visit me and had intended to arrive in Taiwan for the first time in March of last year. Basically all travel was cancelled in spring of 2020 though, so that trip didn't happen. And it looks like it might never happen... But I talked to him last night and it seems like I might be able to go to the USA next year, so at least theres that. He's not just a father anymore, but a grandfather. My brother has two kids now that I've never seen and while it's still a terrible time to travel, we can hope that next year will be better.

It's a hard job being a father I think. Looking back I know that I didn't make it easy. He was a single father for most of it too, but 22 years after my mother died he finally remarried. So congratulations to him. The last time I saw him was at his own wedding 4 years ago. He turns 70 in 3 days. So to all the Dad's out there and especially all the single dad's out there, Happy Fathers Days.

うっかり物を置き忘れてしてしまったとき、「あー、忘れ物した！」と日本語では言いますが、とても簡単な表現である「忘れ物」をいざ英語で自然に表現しようとすると、「なんて言ったらいいんだろう？」と思う人も少なくないのではないでしょうか？そこで今回は、普段ネイティブがよく使う「忘れ物」を表現する4つのフレーズをご紹介します。

1) Forget something
→「忘れ物をする」

Forgetは「忘れる」を意味することから、forget somethingは「忘れ物」を表す最も一般的な表現です。例えば、「車に財布を忘れた」は「I forgot my wallet in the car.」、「何か忘れ物をしているような気がする」は「I feel like I'm forgetting something.」、「忘れ物がないよう確認をするように」は「Make sure you're not forgetting anything.」という具合に使われます。
　
＜例文＞
　
I've got to run back into the house, I forgot something.
（ちょっと忘れ物したから、家にいったん戻るわ。）　
　
Please take care not to forget anything.
（お忘れ物に十分お気を付けください。）
　
Oh no! I forgot my phone at home!
（やばい！携帯を家に忘れてきた。）

2) Leave something somewhere
→「（どこどこに）忘れ物をする」

Leave somethingは何かをある場所に置くことを意味することから、携帯や鍵、財布や鞄などをどこかに置き忘れたときにこの表現が使われます。例えば、車の鍵をホテルの部屋に忘れた場合は「I left my car keys in the room.（部屋に車のカギを置き忘れてきた。）」と表現したり、クレジットカードを無くして探している友達に対して、「I think you left it at the bar.（バーに忘れていると思うよ。）」という具合に使われます。
　
＜例文＞
　
Do you guys mind if we go back to the hotel? I left my wallet in the room.
（ホテルに戻っていい？財布忘れちゃって。）
　
Maybe you left your sunglasses in the train? Let's go talk to the station worker.
（電車の中にサングラスを忘れたんじゃない？駅員に相談してみよう。）
　
Did I leave my jacket at your house? Can you check the living room?
（君の家にジャケット忘れたかも。リビングルームを確認してくれない。）

3) Do you have / got everything?
→「忘れ物ない？」

相手に忘れ物がないかと尋ねるときに使われる定番の質問が「Do you have / got everything?」です。日本語に直訳すると「全て持った？」になり、所持品が全てあることを確認する時に用いられる言い方です。どこかへ出発する前や宿泊したホテルを出るときに、「忘れ物はないですか？」と一言声をかけたい時に使える便利な言い回しです。
　
✔「Are you not forgetting anything?」でも間違いではないが、「Do you have / got everything?」の方がナチュラルな響がある。
　
✔日常会話ではDoを省いて、「You have / got everything?」と言うことも一般的。
　
＜例文＞
　
Do you guys have everything? OK, let's hit the road!
（みんな忘れ物ないね？オッケー、それでは出発しましょう！）
　
You got everything? Keys, wallet, cell phone?
（忘れ物ないね？鍵、財布、携帯、全部ある？）
　
Before we leave let's double check the room to make sure we have everything.
（部屋を出る前に、忘れ物がないかもう一度部屋を確認しましょう。）

4) Lost and found
→「忘れ物（カウンター）」

デパートや駅などにある「忘れ物」コーナーを、英語でlost and foundと言います。lost and foundは「無くしたものがまた見つかった」と言う意味になります。また、日本語では「忘れ物カウンター」などと言いますが、英語ではlost and foundだけで通じ、「カウンター」などを付け加える必要はありません。
　
＜例文＞
　
〜会話例１〜

A: I dropped my scarf on the train, how can I find it?
（マフラーを電車に忘れたみたい！どうしよう！）

B: Let’s ask the station attendant where the lost and found is.
（駅員に忘れ物カウンターがどこにあるか聞いてみよう！）
　
〜会話例２〜

A: Could you tell me where your ‘lost and found’ is?
（忘れ物カウンターはどこですか？）

B: It’s on the 3rd floor by men’s clothing.
（三階の紳士服のそばにあります。）
　
(Announcement) “We have had a cell phone delivered to the lost and found, if you are the owner, please come to the lost and found counter on the 3rd floor.”

I was doing spring cleaning and packing our wardrobes, starting with the kids followed by mine. Then I realised that we have still kept all our winter clothing, including the coats, fleece jackets, thermal wear, gloves, thick socks, mittens and all. That means they have been sitting there for a good 8 years - and not been used at all since we returned from Scandinavia. Haha.

The question is how long should we continue to keep them? Since our house has no storeroom, we can definitely with more storage space if we choose to free it up. Yet, the thought of the money we had invested makes it hard to let go and more importantly, there is still that lingering hope that one day, we might be able to travel (again) and bring the kids to somewhere where they might finally see snow. Yup, only the eldest has done that and that was because she was born in Sweden during winter.

In the end, I still chose to keep everything intact because of the hope they symbolised to me, which is even more significant during this period where we can only reminisce about past travels.

We might not be able to go on a vacation for quite some time and it gets more expensive to have family trips as the kids get older, but we will always hope for the chance to do so someday and in the meantime, think about and be grateful for all the beautiful cities we have set foot in, sights we have seen and memories we have made.

Hello my sweet little strawberries,

I filmed a Tiffany inspired makeup tutorial (from the Twinkle music video) a few days ago and I figured, might as well do a hair tutorial as well. Most of you requested for the glamorous bouncy curls hairstyle that Tiffany wore at the beginning of the MV. Great choice! Such a romantic and elegant hairstyle!!!

Of course, my hair is a lot shorter than Tiffany's and I also had to adjust the hairstyle to work with my shorter layers. She probably had additional hair extension pieces clipped underneath her hair for extra length & volume. You can add hair extensions if you wish but if not, let's just work with what we have yeah?

I can totally imagine wearing this hairstyle to somewhere special in the evening or perhaps even for prom.

It's 3:40am and I only just finished up my work. Haven't had dinner yet so off to make myself a small snack for another all night *_* HUNGRY BUBZ!!

Hey Guys! Long time no hair tutorial ^^.

Here is a life saver hair trick that will save you time in the morning or even for night time. This hairstyle will give you awesome beautiful waves without using damaging hot hair tools.

10 minutes before you sleep is all you'll need for this hairstyle.

You can even wear this hairstyle during the day (such as school) and unravel the braids if you are going somewhere later that day ^^. My best friend does this trick when she stays over at a friends house. This way she won't need to carry straighteners, tongs with her. She can travel light since hair ties are so tight and small.

It is a basic concept and I'm pretty sure a lot of girls braid their hair before sleeping for waves. So therefore this is definitely nothing new. A french braid gives waves for the top layers but they are looser which makes the hairstyle look great.

Your waves should be soft and nicely defined. Your hair should also appear thicker and fuller.
