While I'm working on my portrait design samples, I still need to explain something to young artists.
Always taking care of other people and full of passions are our characteristics as an artist. However, when someone is owning or working in a 5 or more employees companies, they will have high possibilities to tell you they have a really really tiny budget. So, they can afford the rent, hiring people with regular salaries and take place some fancy parties but not your art. Then, you start to understand they don't have much money to afford a piece of art they really really need and forget how starving and miserable you are. Accordingly, your foolishness makes you accepted their really really small and tiny budget. You don't know how bad you are damaging market when you take this kind of fee.
In consequence, our effort becomes worthless; people will never understand how much effort we spent to be a real artist. When the clients budget becomes smaller and smaller, please don't blame them. You kill the market.
Illustrators like me trying to rebuild the market price but we are not fast enough. Ignorance artists like you destroying the market faster than us.
So... please know your value, and learn how to bargain the price....
I had great professors and mentors when I was at the beginning of my stage, so find yours and stop being ignorant. If you don't know anything... ask!!! I believe all the great illustrators will happy to answer your questions because we are all on the same boat.
目前正在畫我的新的人像設計樣本，因為前幾天又接到很令人震驚的報價，還看到有天賦還出書的插畫師接了這樣的價格，讓我非常驚訝！
在此，我仍然需要向正在起步的插畫師們解釋一些東西。悲天憫人充滿大愛是我們藝術家的特質。但是，當有個擁有一間公司或是在一間有五個員工以上的公司上班的人與你接洽時，他們會有很高的可能性告訴你，他們的預算真的非常非常少，公司沒有賺多少錢，因為資金吃緊之類的話。但是，他們可以負擔公司地點的租金，僱用勞保勞工還給予福利，並且舉辦一些很酷炫的Party，卻沒有太多錢來買你的創意。然後，你開始同情他們，覺得他們真的沒有太多的錢來買一件他們真正真正需要的藝術設計，並且忘記了你是一個沒有勞保和福利以及穩定薪水又挨餓受凍的藝術設計者。結果，你便愚蠢的接受了他們微乎其微的預算。當你收取這種費用在工作的時候，你以為不會影響到這個市場，但等與你的合作結束後，廠商會以相同的報價再去找下一個人甚至更低。
因此，我們的努力變得毫無價值;人們永遠不會明白我們花了多少努力成為一個真正的藝術家，當客戶預算變得越來越少時，請不要責怪他們，是你抹殺了市場害大家的藝術越來越沒有價值，不要說慣老闆爛客戶，真的就是你殺了這個市場。
像我這樣的插畫家非常努力也試圖讓客戶了解我們的價值，但我們補的洞不夠快，無知的藝術家摧毀市場價格的速度比我們快太多。
所以......請知道你的價值，並學習如何與人談價格。如果你對你的作品沒有自信，懷疑自己有沒有領到正常價格的資格時，就不要接案！代表你的東西還不夠好，他們不願意花錢，那就好好地提升，讓大眾看到一張好的、有價值的藝術設計是你的職業道德！
當我開始這個職業的時候，我有非常好的教授和師傅給我正確的資訊和應該要有的職業道德，所以...也想辦法找到你的吧！如果你是處於一無所知的狀況...請勇敢地發問！我相信所有業界的插畫家都樂意回答你的問題，但當然要問到對的插畫家～不要問到毀壞市場不自知還洋洋得意的！
一個好的藝術家，不只要能畫出美麗的作品，還要有市場經營的觀念，我們都在同一條船上。
