We all wish to make our fathers proud, don't we?
My father never really forced specific aspirations onto me. He was a man of few words. He just wanted me to do well in life, whatever that meant.
By observing him, I learnt the value of honestly and hard work, and I learnt to never take anything I have in my life for granted.
I don't remember him attending any of my recitals when i was a child. I was always my mother who supported my early involvement in music and theater etc. But when I grew up and became a singer, he started showing interest in my work, and would always surprise me by appearing at my shows. That's when I realized - what he meant by 'wanting me to do well in life' was he just wanted me to be happy.
This a photo of him having a happy moment, when he was conferred an award from the Governor. It was a proud day for all of us.
My father left us in 2006, after a long battle with heart disease. I often think about him and all the life lessons he subtly taught me. I owe him so much for being so accepting of me. Happy father's day, Pa. Thank you. I love you.
