I want to share with you a disturbing statistic I came across the other day...
In my city, Vancouver, there are 70 neighborhoods. And out of those 70 neighbourhoods, do you know how many of them minimum-wage workers can afford to live in?
It’s a very easy number to remember…
ZERO.
And I’m not talking about buying a condo or a property…
I’m not talking about renting in the city centre or renting some 2 or 3 bedroom apartment somewhere...
I’m just talking about renting ONE single bedroom apartment.
According to The Star Vancouver - minimum wage workers can’t afford a one bedroom apartment ANYWHERE in Vancouver.
And minimum-wage workers would need up to DOUBLE what they currently make to afford a one bedroom rental in most parts of Vancouver.
And as housing keeps becoming more expensive, it’s going to get worse.
So how do they survive?
Well, they have to get creative.
Some live very far out of town (2 hours away by car) and they commute for hours every day.
Some team up and pool their resources together and get as many roommates as possible.
And others just work two full-time jobs…
Anything they can do to make it.
And...
Minimum Wage Isn’t Just A Problem In Vancouver
Toronto, the largest city in Canada, has the same problem.
And in the U.S., there’s NO single state where a minimum-wage 40-hour worker can afford any comfortable two-bedroom apartment...
It’s really bad.
If you’re going through this like I did.
Or if you know someone that is going through this, let me just tell you right now...
You have to do something about this FAST. Because it’s not going to get easier.
I remember when I was working a minimum wage job like yesterday.
People didn’t appreciate me. I was replaceable. And the longer I worked - the harder it became to break out.
The debt started to build up.
I had to sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag while my mom slept on the bed.
And we were even afraid at times of getting kicked out of our apartment.
...with no idea where we would go.
And that was almost two decades ago! Back when rent was cheaper.
So I can’t imagine how people are still making it happen today.
This is serious... and it’s getting more difficult every. single. month.
Getting a 4-year education isn’t enough now. Getting two jobs only fixes this problem in the short term.
And if you already have a family or want to start one... pooling with other minimum wage workers won’t work either.
You need something else.
A competitive advantage.
Now it’s going to take you some work. And I don’t know if this is going to work for everyone…
But this complimentary training I’ve put together may just be what you need to start protecting yourself and your future...
Tens of thousands have taken this training and many more are going through it.
👉Type the codeword “training” to get started👈
Even if you don’t have to personally deal with minimum wage struggles at this point…
Housing is just getting more and more expensive. And inflation is growing faster than most incomes are...
So minimum-wage workers are not the only ones in trouble anymore either!
Teachers, nurses, and even firefighters are finding it harder and harder to live in the city...
If you’re not rapidly growing - you’re falling behind.
Now is the time to do something about it.

I’ve lived in Hong Kong for just over seven years but grew up outside of Toronto. My family live back in Canada and I’m grateful I can visit home for a good chunk of time every year. But that doesn’t make living on the other side of the world any easier.
.
Of course moving abroad was my decision and I’ve absolutely loved every moment of it. I’ve grown so much, have had the most incredible experiences and opportunities, and am truly happy with the person I’ve become.
.
Despite all these positives of calling Hong Kong home, it never gets easier to miss important moments back in Canada with my family. It’s hard facing the reality that I don’t know when I’ll be able to celebrate Christmas, thanksgiving, birthdays, and other occasions with them again. And it’s absolutely terrifying to think of something happening to them while I’m over here.
.
If you’ve moved abroad, what’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced/are facing and how are you dealing with it?
.
(Sorry for the slightly emotional post - just missing the comforts of home and unconditional love of family right now!)

Thank you Kevin and Robert
Shayla and her twin brother, Thomas, were adopted at 6 months old by a family from Calgary who relocated to Trinidad for work. Meanwhile, two older sisters were adopted previously and still live in the Toronto area. Due to unfortunate circumstances, difficult situations, and past struggles with the law, Shayla’s birth parents lost custody shortly after they were born. Shayla always knew her birth parents’ full names and used Facebook to find her birth mother and followed her throughout the years. Just a few months ago, Shayla’s adoptive mom noticed a girl on her birth mother’s page that resembled Shayla a lot. Eventually, when Shayla was able to reach her older sister Seleena, she was also able to reach her oldest sister, Samantha. And with these connections, finally Shayla found her father, a former Vietnamese boat refugee who immigrated to Canada by himself.

If you know me personally, you know I have always had a special place in my heart for Canada, and I was finally back after nearly 2 years, as a spring break vacation. To be honest, I have not felt happy in a long time, I was not being myself at all. But 10 days in Canada, reunited with my really really amazing friends that I don't deserve, I felt happy. I cried so hard at the airport when I had to leave, not because spring break was over & I had to go back to college, but because I felt like I left a piece of me there & my whole entire body hurt so bad. I promise myself that I will try to find a way to come back to Canada every year, at least for the next 10 years (until my visa expires lol).
This is the proudest video I have ever filmed and edited, it took awhile but it's finally here now. I hope you enjoy!
Shoutout to Teeayz for being my personally tour guide and photographer/videographer, Fogii for letting me stay when I literally had no where to go lol and also for keeping me company, Angela for letting me stay at her house (in both Toronto & Kingston), Nishad for literally driving 2 hours just to pick me up and did carpool karaoke with me, Chedy for having Korean food with me, Đức Minh for paying for my noodles when my card got declined lol and also for letting me stay the night when i (again) had nowhere to go smh, Angela's boyfriend & guy friends for being such gentlemen & overall awesome dudes, Angela's mom for being so nice and cooked for me, Peter for being so crazy lol & made me feel welcomed when we literally just met...
I can go on and on and on.. See? This is why I love Canada! All my friends there are the real ones and I appreciate them so much!!!

I'm Sherry and I love filming beauty, lifestyle, and travel videos! I speak English and Cantonese, and am trying to work on my Mandarin right now haha.
