Never publicly posted my convocation pics so thank you @sfubeedie, for inviting me to host and welcome SFU’s class of June 2021 to join the alumni club; giving me an excuse to look back and reminisce!

Truly a pleasure and honour!

University life in Canada was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in my life that value-added so much of my being today— I am for sure too nice/polite for my own good (it was especially tough being nice in China 😂), I learnt the importance of being green, turned into a huge foodie and a health enthusiast at the same time (if that’s even possible), valued outdoor activities so much more (summers in Vancouver is a dream 😍), made friends from so many walks of life, and oh I guess I also learnt a great deal about finance, economics and a lot of how the world works.

Campus life was one I dreamt about growing up in Malaysia with western media exposure and it really was an exhilarating experience! At my final semester during the summer, I worked 2 jobs and was at school full-time but I still had time for weekend volunteer work at my Church’s nursery, attended every beach barbecue I was invited to and threw multiple house parties— still graduated with a 3.75GPA (A- average) ✌🏻 Pretty sure I was working hard and playing hard before it was a meme 😅

Immersing in another country’s culture and philosophies not only helped me grow in my worldly knowledge but also helped me learn to appreciate my own country’s unique culture.

I will always be grateful for the opportunity my father gave to me to study abroad; and I hope to bestow the same fortuity to my future children 🥰

Throwback 6

I have always wanted to be a teacher/lecturer.

When my mum taught tuition at home, i'll volunteer to help out.

When i was completing my foundation in Uni, i used to travel x3times a week from PJ to Shah Alam to teach tuition at night.

I also spend 2 days a week teaching debating in TKC, commuting from PJ to Nilai. In hindsight, this was one of my most memorable debate experience, ever.

Yes it was illegal then to leave campus, but hey, a man has to pay his bills. I didn't want to be a burden to my parents.

By the second year into Uni, i was already appointed a part-time lecturer for Niche, Advance Debating & Public Speaking in IIUM.

New opportunities came when i started to receive invitations to teach abroad.

No matter where & how far, i'll almost never turn the opportunity down.

I remember once i was invited to run workshops in Lahore, Pakistan. I only told my mum when i was already on the plane & about to depart, as i feared she would block me from leaving as there were a few bombings in Pakistan then.

If we are honest in teaching, we won't just hand-pick countries based on how much they pay or how good they already are.

We owe a duty to help one another climb up.

By the end of my debating career, i have had the privilege to speak/teach/judge in ~25 countries.

Yes, this made me miss a lot of classes (when in uni) but i wouldn't trade the experience i gained with anything else.

Travelling the world to teach made me a global citizen. It opened up my eyes.

When i was appointed Co-Chief Judge for Pan Africans Debating Championship which was held in the City of Limpopo, i met many new friends & empathised with the struggle of debating in Africa.

There were times where the electricity suddenly went off & we had to continue the debates in the dark with candles.

I decided to stay longer to run a few more workshops to help wherever i can.

I will forever cherish the experiences. It made me who i am today.

攝影師金磊，是台灣第一位水下鯨豚攝影師，大學讀的是生物，對於生物與環境十分有興趣，畢業之後到花蓮擔任黑潮海洋文教基金會擔任志工，開啟了他與鯨豚的緣分。2001年開始出海，跟著船班一班一班的出海，學習海上的經驗與觀察鯨豚的經驗。

在船上拍了一陣子的鯨豚之後，慢慢的發現，在國外拍攝鯨豚主要都是以水下的影像為主，為了能在台灣的海域拍攝水下鯨豚，於2011年開始每年都去東加王國學習水下鯨豚的攝影，不停地磨練自己，當成自己的練功場，希望透過經驗的累積在台灣海域紀錄水下鯨豚，因為對他而言，台灣是他開始的地方，也是不會放掉的地方。

Photographer Ray Chin is the first underwater whale porpoise photographer in Taiwan. The university is a creature. He is very interested in biology and the environment. After graduation, he went to Hualien as a volunteer for the Kuroshio Ocean Culture and Education Foundation, and opened him and whales. The fate of the porpoise. In 2001, he began to go out to sea, followed the class of the boat to go to sea, learn the experience of the sea and observe the experience of whales and dolphins.

After taking a whale and dolphins on the boat for a while, I slowly discovered that the cetaceans that were photographed abroad were mainly based on underwater images. In order to shoot underwater whales and dolphins in Taiwan, they began every year in 2011. I went to the Kingdom of Tonga to study the photography of underwater whales and dolphins, and tempered myself as a practice field. I hope to record the underwater whales and dolphins in the waters of Taiwan through the accumulation of experience, because for him, Taiwan is his beginning. The place is also the place that will not be let go.

It starts 8️⃣pm to ?pm daily. Each boat ??‍♀️ with 4️⃣pax & cruising for 30mins ??

Before the cruising ?, she has visited the tree ? planting place. They are planting Pokok Berembang ? for sustainable habitat for adult fireflies, while Pokok Nipah ? for the sustainable habitat for fireflies’ eggs, larva & pupa

Once boarding on the boat ??‍♀️??‍♂️, her young nature guide named Ikhwan (with nickname Baby) ?? has advised not to use flash ? while taking photos ? or videos ? during the cruising as it will disturb the fireflies. Baby ?? with just 14 years old has done a great job as a young nature guide. He has explained confidently. Well done ??& keep up the great work ya ??????

ニュージーランドの都市であるオークランドで開かれたJapan Dayに今回は初めてボランティアとして参加しました！動画は勝手に撮らせてもらいましたが、ニュージーランドでの日本のお祭りはこんな感じの雰囲気だという事が伝われば嬉しいです！

Hey guys, Japan Day 2018 was held in Auckland, New Zealand last weekend and this event is basically a Japanese festival which people come to get to experience Japanese culture, food and see some performance. I participated in the event as a volunteer and had so much fun making this festival as fun as possible for others! I was filming in a mean while so I hope you can get to see what Japan Day was like.
