行山裝備Checklist
Apps
⭕ 雨傘
⭕ 毛巾
⭕ 乾糧
⭕ 飲用水
⭕ 防曬用品
⭕ 防蚊用品
⭕ 急救包

Hiking gears checklist
Many youngsters have enjoyed hiking recently, wearing singlets and short pants might be quite a sight to behold but they are not without hazards. Wearing singlets only might cause sunburn, attract mosquitoes and bugs, and heatstroke that can drain the fluid in the body; wearing short pants might also hurt your legs when you hike through the short bushes.
Even a pair of ordinary sport shoes might not be suitable for hiking, as they lack of support and the anti-slip properties. When hiking, carry along a trekking pole, so you can distribute the weight of items you carry and reduce the burden on your feet.
Let’s go through the checklist below to ensure you are well-prepared:
Attire
⭕ Shirts that are loose and can dry easily; those with thin fabric is better than the thick ones, as they can reduce the weight and regulate the body temperature
⭕ Long and lightweight track bottom
⭕ Hiking shoes with good thick and anti-slip outsole
⭕ Socks of the proper size to prevent blisters
⭕ A sun hat that covers the ears and the back of the neck
⭕ A pair of sunglasses that has anti-UV properties
⭕ A lightweight windbreaker
Equipment
⭕ Lightweight waterproof backpack, preferably with a waist strap to support the weight
⭕ Trekking pole
⭕ Map and compass
⭕ Hiking-related apps
⭕ Umbrella
⭕ Towel
⭕ Snacks
⭕ Drinking water
⭕ Sunscreen
⭕ Insect repellant
⭕ first-aid kit

Given the new mask & limited gathering measures in HK due to rising cases, I'll be (sadly) taking a break from hiking/beach/anything outdoors!
But here are some photos from my adventure to Pak Lung Stream in Tung Chung some time ago. While there wasn't much water due to lack of rain, hiking up it was TOUGH but it does mean that it wasn't as dangerous.
When hiking up streams, remember to: check the weather forecast, wear good shoes, and turn back if it doesn't look good!
We also got a glimpse of all the parked planes at the airport - it looks like a toy set from afar.

Searching for missing person in mountains was success and fast last night. Glad I stick on this part of plan to check from 水社主峰 towards 大尖山 (Formosa Trail course). I was on this connection since 2016, it is very deep forest, bit scary during the day, in night not better :]
I did not see any signs/steps, so I doubt she can be there, but stick on plan to go ahead (and later return). And here she was, happy, healthy, but cold in deep forest and without light and just with light cloth.
Provide Emergency blanket, jacket, food, water, spare headlamp and lady was able to continue in direction to 13th kilometer of forest road (just hike 2km instead go back 10km) where Eva sent 4WD car by instruction.
This time was happy ending and got lot experiences.

Join us on our weekly hike to Kaohsiung's Monkey Mountain - Chai Shan! This video explains how to climb Kaohsiung's Monkey Mountain, Monkey Mountain trailhead location and how to get there, what you will need to bring and even where you can have a delicious traditional Chinese breakfast after your climb.
Don't forget to subscribe for more Taiwan fun!
There are two main trailheads to climb Monkey Mountain: Shou Shan (near the zoo) and Chai Shan (further north). I prefer Chai Shan, and I'll show you here how to climb yourself!
Time: 1.5 - 3 hour round trip (depending on climbing speed and how many photos you take!)
Bring: Water, bug repellent, walking shoes, comfortable clothing
Optional: sweat towel (May to October), bandaids
Do not bring: food of any kind, plastic bags or wrappers (or the monkeys will be attracted to you - please note food is prohibited on the mountain for this reason)
Getting there
- Public transport: use google maps transit directions for bus routes (navigate to the 7-11 at the link below). Please note these often do not run before 7 am.
- Walking: the trailhead is about a half hour walk from Aozidi MRT station.
- Taxi/Uber: Show one of the addresses below to your driver (I recommend asking him to take you to the 7 Eleven as it's a major landmark and walking from there). The fare from Aozhidi MRT station (taxi rank at exit 2) is approximately nt120.
- Public bicycle
---City bike: You can use your credit card to rent these, but you keep paying until they are returned to a station. The closest station is at this 7 Eleven, a 10 minute walk from the mountain.
--- O-bike: Download the o-bike app to find an available bike. Once you arrive at the mountain, you can leave the bike there and it will likely still be there for you to re-rent when you come back down (and there are often extra available O-bikes at the trailhead or nearby).

Open 4:30 am - 1:00 pm
If Kuan Lai Shun is closed on the day you visit, the dumplings at the restaurant next door are good - or go down the alley behind Kuan Lai Shun and into the traditional market for a few more options.
