HTC unveils ultra-sharp smartphone for fresh US campaign
11/14/2012 (CNA)
Taipei, Nov. 14 (CNA) HTC Corp. unveiled on Wednesday its latest smartphone -- the Droid DNA -- that will spearhead its campaign to regain market share in the highly competitive United States market.
The Droid DNA, which features a super-sharp display and high-speed 4G LTE Internet access, will serve as the company's leading smartphone for the holiday shopping season in the U.S., HTC said in a statement.
The new device "embodies a smartphone that pushes the envelope in all of the areas," such as performance, speed and design, the statement said.
The unveiling of the new model comes on the heels of a truce in HTC's long patent battle with U.S. technology giant Apple Inc. The two companies announced a global settlement and licensing agreement Nov. 11.
HTC said it is collaborating with U.S. mobile network operator Verizon Wireless in launching the Droid DNA, with pre-orders starting Tuesday (U.S. time) and the phone expected to be available at retail stores from Nov. 21.
The Droid DNA comes equipped with a 5-inch display capable of displaying 1080p video and has the sharpest resolution of any smartphone screen on the market, which is what sets the device apart, the company said.
The Droid DNA display has a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch, outclassing the 326 ppi found in Apple's latest iPhone and the 306 ppi seen in Samsung's Galaxy S III, according to a Reuters report.
The Droid also features the latest Qualcomm snapdragon quad-core processor and runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and HTC's Sense 4+, the company said.
Market analysts said the new phone may help HTC regain market share in the U.S. where it has fallen far behind rivals Samsung and Apple in recent years. (By Stacey Wu and Sofia Wu)
