A bespoke painting for my client. 😊

這幾週寄了兩大批作品回台灣，那郵資真是讓人失血不少，大家猜猜看總共花了多少錢？

妹妹今天終於收到一批還另外被課了500元的稅，雖然心痛但順利到達還是最重要的。

這件作品是我為客戶以另一張作品客製的類似系列，我給它取名為「Alice」。

不知道為什麼的，在繪製它時，心裡就一直設定著以「愛情」為主的內心故事，可能是因為委託客戶的臉書名讓我覺得有一份神秘的感覺，就讓我留下了這樣的印象。

有在追蹤我作品的人大概都知道我最近的系列是以我腦中的抽象島「腦嶼」為主，而這是我在島上所採集到的植物。

「愛麗絲，我給她取名為愛麗絲。

第一次遇見她是不經意在森林內漫步的那一次。

在還有一段距離下，那小蒼蘭及雛菊的混合調陣陣撲鼻而來。你以為這兩個味道無法融合彼此，但其實不然，這樣的混合反而造成了一種獨特、清新且讓人想更深入探究更多的氣味。

尋著味道走去，我瞧見她本人，那美麗燦動不知名的花朵，讓我震撼的深深為她著迷。

這使我想起高中時期第一次喜歡上人的那種憱動，青澀且微微害羞地。

她是愛麗絲。

我決定用這名字來為這股特別的心情寫下一份紀念。」

While I cook for my kids, I am not an expert when it comes to traditional herbs and spices. In fact, I know way too little about them and find it hard to teach my kids when we visit spice gardens at Fort Canning, Botanic Garden or the zoo.

Thanks to this book titled A Taste of Home, which covers 17 herbs and spices commonly used in Singapore, we now understand more about plants like ginseng, rosemary, saffron, star anise, tamarind and more. This is a handy and colourful book that is published and beautifully illustrated by the talented mummy Dorothea of @dottieshop_sg. Every page includes facts about the plant, an original watercolour illustration and an outline for the kids to do their own colouring.

My kids love to read and as you might know, the big girl loves bugs and animals. So it is indeed a refreshing change to see them reading about plants as they pick up new knowledge along the way. It's even better when they explore together, hand in hand. Let's hope we will have more things to share with each other the next time we visit a spice garden!
