根據冰島育犬協會的最新資料顯示，冰島的幼犬註冊數量光是今年上半年就比去年同期成長了一倍。在依舊持續籠罩在疫情下的2021年，顯示越來越多的冰島人想要飼養寵物，為自己帶來療癒的力量，以及消除社交距離下的孤獨感。整體而言，冰島目前養狗的需求已經超過了供給，協會表示，小型犬在今年非常受到歡迎。

在冰島有註冊的狗品種一共有 58 種。 今年截至目前，最受歡迎的狗分別是：

1. 冰島牧羊犬 (Icelandic Sheepdog)
2. 迷你雪納瑞 (Miniature Schnauzer)
3. 拉布拉多犬 (Labrador Retriever)
4. 棉花面紗犬 (Conton de Tuléar)
5. 迷你杜賓犬 (Miniature Pinscher)
6. 德國牧羊犬 (German Shepard)
7. 騎士查理王獵犬 (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)
8. 法國鬥牛犬 (French Bulldog)
9. 哈瓦那犬 (Havanese)
10. 黃金獵犬 (Golden Retriever)

冰島唯一的本土犬種冰島牧羊犬居於榜首，哈瓦那犬和法國鬥牛犬則是前十名的新進榜成員。

在冰島首都圈想要養狗，飼主必須向市府取得飼養許可證 (年費約台幣 5,000 元)，並幫狗狗植入晶片、施打疫苗，並遵守外出繫繩等規範。另外，如果飼主是居住在公寓大樓，則必須獲得整棟住戶的允許，每家每戶都簽下允許飼養的同意書後，該飼主才能在自家公寓內飼養寵物狗。

根據 2021 年的最新資料顯示，冰島雷克雅維克一共發出了 2,150 張狗狗飼養許可證，至於貓咪的數量，則是比狗狗多了整整十倍。

美國比特鬥牛犬 (American Pit Bull Terrier)、斯塔福郡鬥牛犬 (Staffordshire Bull Terrier)、巴西菲勒犬 (Fila Brasileiro)、土佐鬥犬 (Toso Inu)、阿根廷杜高犬 (Dogo Argentino)等品種在冰島被視為被視為「危險犬種」，嚴禁飼養和進口。

Anxiety with Grooming: Our Old English Sheepdog, Riley, has SEVERE anxiety when it comes to grooming. His vet prescribed him an anxiety medication that relaxes his muscles but still keeps him awake. He usually remains calm and tired for the next 6 hours. We give him this 1 hour before his groomer arrives to our house to groom him. We've noticed that it works and his grooming sessions have been more calm and relaxing! If you are not comfortable with anxiety medication for your dog, please also try CBD treats or oils recommended by your vet. We have found that CBD treats and oils don't work for Riley but it works for Casper and Rocky who experience separation anxiety.
