กรณีศึกษา K/DA นักร้องดังติดอันดับ แต่ไม่ใช่มนุษย์ /โดย ลงทุนแมน
หากให้เรานึกถึงเกิร์ลกรุ๊ป หรือกลุ่มศิลปินหญิงที่เป็นที่รู้จักทั่วโลก
เราคงนึกถึงชื่อของ BLACKPINK, TWICE หรือ Girls’ Generation

แต่รู้หรือไม่ว่าในเดือนกันยายนที่ผ่านมาเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปน้องใหม่อย่าง K/DA
ก็ได้ก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นอีกหนึ่งกลุ่มศิลปินที่น่าติดตาม

นั่นก็เพราะว่าซิงเกิลใหม่ของวงอย่าง THE BADDEST สามารถขึ้นไปครองบัลลังก์เพลง
ที่มีผู้ฟังออนไลน์มากที่สุดใน Billboard ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา

และที่น่าสนใจมากไปกว่านั้นก็คือ ศิลปินที่เป็นสมาชิกทั้ง 4 คนในวงนั้นกลับไม่ใช่ “มนุษย์”..

K/DA คือวงเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปที่ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจาก K-Pop โดยมีเจ้าของเป็นค่ายเกมยักษ์ใหญ่
สัญชาติอเมริกันอย่าง Riot Games เจ้าของเกม League of Legends นั่นเอง

สำหรับชื่อของ K/DA ก็เป็นไอเดียที่มาจากคำศัพท์ยอดนิยมในตัวเกม League of Legends

K ย่อมาจาก Kill หรือการฆ่า
D ย่อมาจาก Death หรือเสียชีวิต
A ย่อมาจาก Assist หรือการที่เราสนับสนุนเพื่อนร่วมทีม

และที่บอกว่าสมาชิกในวงไม่ใช่ มนุษย์ นั่นก็เพราะว่าแทนที่ Riot Games จะฝึกหัดนักร้อง นักแสดงตามแบบฉบับการสร้างศิลปินทั่วไปที่เราคุ้นเคย แต่ทางบริษัทกลับใช้ตัวละครในเกมมาเป็นศิลปิน..

โดยลักษณะแนวเพลงของ K/DA ก็ถูกถอดแบบมาจากเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปเกาหลี ที่กำลังเป็นที่นิยมในยุคปัจจุบัน
ที่มาพร้อมลีลาท่าเต้นที่พร้อมเพรียง พร้อมสไตล์การร้องที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์

แม้ว่าตัวละครในเกมจะไม่มีชีวิตอยู่จริง แต่ค่ายเกม Riot Games ก็ได้ร่วมมือกับศิลปินเกาหลีหน้าใหม่ เช่น ศิลปิน 2 คนจากเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปวง (G)I-DLE เข้ามาให้เสียง ร่วมกับศิลปินหญิงชาวอเมริกันอีก 2 คน ด้วยแนวเพลง EDM (Electronic Dance Music)

สรุปง่าย ๆ ก็คือ วง K/DA มีศิลปินเป็นตัวละครในเกมไม่ใช่มนุษย์ แต่มีเสียงร้องจากศิลปินที่เป็นมนุษย์

แล้วไอเดียดังกล่าวของ Riot Games ปังขนาดไหน?

K/DA เปิดตัวครั้งแรกเมื่อปี 2018 หรือ 2 ปีที่ผ่านมา
ภายในงานการแข่งขัน League of Legends World Championship

โดยกระแสตอบรับที่เกิดขึ้นก็ถือว่าดังถล่มทลาย เพราะ K/DA สามารถเข้าถึงคนทั่วโลกได้ทันที

ส่วนหนึ่งมาจากฐานคนเล่นเกมที่อินกับตัวเกมอยู่แล้ว อีกส่วนหนึ่งก็มาจากฐานแฟนคลับของศิลปินที่ให้เสียงร้องในเพลงรวมกัน

ในขณะที่วงเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปที่เรารู้จักอย่าง AKB48 Group จากญี่ปุ่น หรือ Girls’ Generation จากเกาหลีใต้ ต้องใช้เวลาอย่างต่ำ ๆ ราว 3 ปี เพื่อขยายฐานแฟนคลับออกนอกประเทศบ้านเกิดของตัวเอง

ไอเดียศิลปินสมมติที่สร้างขึ้นโดย Riot Games ถือว่าเป็นกรณีศึกษาที่น่าสนใจ

นั่นก็เพราะว่าความสดใหม่ของตัวศิลปินจะถูกสร้างสรรค์ได้ตลอดเวลาโดยทีมนักพัฒนา และตั้งต้นมาจากตัวละครในเกมที่ผู้เล่นคุ้นเคยกันดี

จุดนี้ต่างจากศิลปินที่เป็นมนุษย์ ที่เริ่มแรกไม่มีคนรู้จัก และต้องอาศัยเพลงเปิดตัวซึ่งเราก็ไม่มีทางรู้ว่าเพลงของเราจะเป็นที่ถูกอกถูกใจในตลาดหรือไม่

นอกจากนั้น มนุษย์เรายังมีข้อจำกัดในเรื่องของการใช้เสียง ความเหนื่อยล้า ความชรา หรือความเจ็บไข้ได้ป่วยมาเกี่ยวข้อง ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าเมื่อศิลปินไม่มีชีวิต อายุขัยของพวกเขาคือ อนันต์..

สำหรับปรากฏการณ์ของ K/DA เราเรียกมันว่า Virtual Pop แปลตรงตัวว่า พ็อปเสมือนจริง

ซึ่งเกิดขึ้นมาจากจินตนาการรวมร่างกับขีดความสามารถทางเทคโนโลยีในยุคปัจจุบันอย่าง Hologram ในการสร้างเวทีคอนเสิร์ตขึ้น รวมถึงการใช้ VR และ AR ในการสร้างประสบการณ์ใหม่ ๆ ให้แก่ผู้รับชม

ซึ่งเรื่องนี้ก็น่าจะเป็นความท้าทายของศิลปินยุคถัดไปที่นอกจากมนุษย์เราจะต้องแย่งแฟนคลับกันเองแล้ว ยังมีคู่แข่งที่คาดไม่ถึงอย่างตัวละครในเกมด้วย..

แล้ว K/DA ประสบความสำเร็จขนาดไหน?

ถ้าพูดถึงความโด่งดังที่ออกมาเป็นตัวเลขแล้ว ด้วยยอดผู้ชมบนยูทูบมากถึง 27 ล้านวิวในซิงเกิลของเพลง MORE ที่เปิดตัวไปได้เพียง 7 วัน ก็คงเป็นหนึ่งเครื่องพิสูจน์ได้อย่างดี

นอกจากนี้ หากเรามาดูการเติบโตของช่อง League of Legends บนยูทูบ

ปี 2014 ถึงปี 2017 มีผู้ติดตามเพิ่มขึ้น 2 ล้านคน
ปี 2017 ถึงปี 2020 มีผู้ติดตามเพิ่มขึ้น 5 ล้านคน

ซึ่ง K/DA ได้ถูกก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 2018 โดยมีการออกซิงเกิลแรก และคอนเสิร์ตในรูปแบบของ Virtual Reality จึงทำให้เราสรุปได้ว่า K/DA เป็นแรงขับเคลื่อนสำคัญที่ทำให้ยอดผู้ติดตามของช่อง League of Legends บนยูทูบเติบโตอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ

และด้วยความสำเร็จที่สามารถเห็นได้นี้ จึงทำให้บริษัทจากผู้ร่วมลงทุนเดียวกันอย่างเกม Arena of Valor (ROV) ก็มีแผนที่จะเปิดตัวเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปเสมือนจริงในรูปแบบ 2 มิติ ออกมาเช่นเดียวกัน

ไม่ได้มีเพียงแค่ผู้ชมหรือผู้เล่นเท่านั้นที่ให้ความสนใจ

บริษัทชื่อดังระดับโลกต่างก็ให้ความสนใจในคอนเซ็ปต์ Virtual Pop ไม่ต่างกัน

สะท้อนให้เห็นจากความร่วมมือทางธุรกิจจากบริษัทยักษ์ใหญ่อย่าง Pepsi, Ducati, Louis Vuitton และ Logitech ก็ได้มีการสร้างแคมเปญร่วมกับวง K/DA ในการออกสินค้าทั้งบนโลกออนไลน์ และสินค้าในโลกของความเป็นจริง

ถึงตรงนี้ เราอาจเรียกได้ว่าวง K/DA สามารถสร้างมาตรฐานใหม่สำหรับวงการเพลงไปแล้วเรียบร้อย

ซึ่งความเคลื่อนไหวในลักษณะเดียวกันก็ยังมีให้เห็นทั้งจากบริษัทค่ายเพลงยักษ์ใหญ่จากเกาหลีใต้อย่าง SM Entertainment กำลังเตรียมเปิดตัว วง Aespa ซึ่งจะเป็นเกิร์ลกรุ๊ปวงแรกที่มีการนำเทคโนโลยี AI เข้ามาร่วมใช้งานกับมนุษย์

ในขณะที่วงการศิลปินของประเทศไทยเองนั้น ก็กำลังจะมีวง Virtual Pop ในรูปแบบ 2 มิติ น้องใหม่อย่าง “Polygon Project” ที่กำลังจะเดบิวต์ในไม่ช้า

หากย้อนกลับไปมองวงการบันเทิงในอดีต ที่ศิลปินหนึ่งคนต้องใช้ หน้าตา รูปร่าง การดูแลตัวเอง และการฝึกฝนอย่างหนัก กว่าที่จะได้เป็นศิลปินดัง มีผู้ติดตามที่เยอะ และสร้างรายได้นั้นไม่ง่ายเลย

แต่เทคโนโลยีในยุคปัจจุบันกลับสามารถสร้างศิลปินจากจินตนาการที่สามารถสร้างประสบการณ์บันเทิงได้แม้แต่การจัดคอนเสิร์ตเป็นของตัวเอง

ก็น่าติดตามกันต่อไปว่าวงการศิลปินจากโลกเสมือนจะสร้างความฮือฮาอะไรอีกในอนาคต

แต่ที่แน่ ๆ สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นในวันนี้จะกลายมาเป็นความท้าทายของศิลปินในยุคถัดไปอย่างไม่ต้องสงสัย
จากเดิมที่ศิลปินเคยออกหน้า
มาวันนี้เขาอาจกลายเป็นแค่ผู้อยู่เบื้องหลัง
และให้คนอื่น ที่ไม่มีตัวตน อยู่บนโลกจริง ออกหน้าแทน..

HỌC BỔNG COMPUTER SCIENCE/MACHINE LEARNING CHUẨN

Đầu tháng 9 A (vì bạn xin giấu tên) có nhắn chị Hoa Dinh nhờ xem hộ bộ hồ sơ xin học bổng Giáo sư (PhD) cho ngành Machine Learning. Profile của và kinh nghiệm bạn ý cũng đã rất tốt và Giáo sư còn giục gửi SOP ^^ nữa chứ. Chỉ 1 tháng bạn ấy đã nhận được thông báo offer. Bạn ấy muốn lan toả nhiều hơn kinh nghiệm cho cộng đồng và có nhắn là ai muốn apply CS/ML thì bạn ấy có thể giúp nha. Bài viết bạn gửi chị 9 trang cơ :)). Nên chị sẽ post dần các phần nhé.

"Trong bài viết này, tôi xin chia sẻ với các bạn kinh nghiệm xin học bổng giáo sư PhD của mình. Học bổng giáo sư ở đây nghĩa là các bạn gửi hồ sơ trực tiếp cho giáo sư mà không thông qua trường. Để các bạn có cái nhìn toàn diện hơn tôi xin sơ lược nét chung về các giáo sư mà tôi gửi hồ sơ và lý lịch khoa học của tôi.
Các giáo sư (tại EU, US, Canada) mà tôi gửi hồ sơ đều nghiên cứu chủ yếu về mảng Machine Learning và Computer Vision, và mỗi năm đều có bài trên các hội nghị top của 2 mảng này. Do đó, các kinh nghiệm và phần kiến thức mà tôi tổng hợp bên dưới chỉ áp dụng cho trường hợp apply vào các giáo sư rơi vào trường hợp mà tôi đã nêu trên (những trường hợp khác tôi không có nhiều thông tin). Ngoài ra, tôi cũng cung cấp đường link tìm học bổng ngành robotics. Bài chia sẻ kinh nghiệm xin học bổng robotics, tôi xin hẹn trong một bài khác.
Tôi xin giới thiệu đôi nét về lý lịch khoa học bản thân tại thời điểm xin được học bổng như sau:
- Không tốt nghiệp đại học chuyên ngành máy tính.
- Đã tốt nghiệp master computer science, chuyên ngành computer vision, tại Hàn Quốc.
- Có bài báo SCI, SCIE, CVPR.
- Giao tiếp tiếng anh thông thạo.
Với background trung bình, không tệ cũng không nổi bật, hơn 1 năm từ lúc bắt đầu chuẩn bị hồ sơ đến lúc quyết định nhận offer từ trường, tôi đã nhận được gần 10 personal offers từ các giáo sư. Quá trình này khá là gian nan về thể chất cũng như tinh thần nên tôi hi vọng bài viết này sẽ giúp các bạn tiết kiệm được ít nhiều thời gian và công sức để xin được học bổng đúng ý mình. Bài viết gồm các phần chính:
(1) Các nguồn học bổng mà tôi đã sưu tầm được về ngành Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics.
(2) Kinh nghiệm chuẩn bị hồ sơ.
(3) Các kinh nghiệm và kiến thức cần có để trả lời phỏng vấn với các giáo sư. (4) Các kinh nghiệm khác.
Vì đây là bài viết cá nhân, khi đọc bài viết này sẽ có nhiều ý kiến khác nhau, để tránh tranh cãi không cần thiết tôi xin không nêu thông tin cá nhân của mình.

Các nguồn học bổng
Lưu ý 1: Ở mỗi link, tôi sẽ ghi lại thông tin tôi biết về nguồn, giáo sư đó (điều này không có nghĩa là tôi đã trực tiếp nộp hồ sơ và phỏng vấn với giáo sư đó). Những thông tin này chỉ là tham khảo.

Lưu ý 2: Vì có khá nhiều giáo sư thuộc cùng một group lớn nên tôi xin chỉ cung cấp link của group và một vài giáo sư mà tôi có thông tin các bạn có thể tìm thêm ở group đó.

2. http://csrankings.org/ đây là website tổng hợp các trường và giáo sư trên thế giới dựa
theo publications.
Website này cũng cung cấp homepage của từng giáo sư. Tuy nhiên, các Assistant Prof. hoặc Prof. chuyển trường thì có thể chưa được update nên tốt nhất các bạn vẫn nên vào website của trường (department) và xem list các giáo sư. Kinh nghiệm của tôi thì cơ hội các Assistant Prof. mới vào trường và đang xây dựng lab của mình sẽ trả lời email PhD Application nhiều hơn.
Hầu hết các trường, viên nổi tiếng và các giáo sư hoạt động trong lĩnh vực computer science bao gồm các giáo sư mà tôi cung cấp ở phần dưới đều được liệt kê trong website này. Đây cũng là nguồn chính để tôi tìm thông tin của các giáo sư. Tôi sẽ không liệt kê các group có trong website này.
3. Google groups (có thể google với keyword: google group machine learning) 3.1https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ml-news Machine Learning. Ở group này, các bạn có thể chọn vào tab Studentship hoặc Industrial Position, các tin về
PhD và postdoct position thường đăng ở 2 tab này.
Các PhD position thường được đăng ở google group này thường ở EU, ở US thì ít hơn và thường là các Assistant Prof trẻ. Postdoc position thì cả EU và US. Các giáo sư tên tuổi lớn (Prof. Yoshua Bengio) cũng vào đây đăng bài tìm postdoc.
Ngoài ra, group này còn thường xuyên đăng tải các faculty position.

3.3 Và còn nhiều group nữa như women in machine leaning. Các bạn có thể google thêm
