International Literacy Day is aimed to promote the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society.

This year, International Literacy Day 2020 focuses on “Literacy teaching and learning in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond,” especially on the role of educators and changing pedagogies.

I believe that the biggest impediment to becoming literate is the lack of access to education, especially in rural areas and among those in the B40 group.

Government, society and parent should double their efforts to bring education to several rural communities through community projects such as establishing a library and cultivate the reading habit.

Cultivate reading habit since young. I am aiming to read 1book1day to A Ra, it doesn’t have to be new book per day (if you can that’s even great) You can re-read each book, as long as you spent the time with your her on book daily basis 😊 .

Attended parent seminar by Ms. Renee from bakerandbloomedu on "How to Raise Readers & Writers in the Age of Screens" & "Future-wise: Successful learning in the 21st-century"
Definitely gain some valuable insight!

Forming a reading corner is important for young kids to cultivate the habit of reading! In cultivating readers, read to them even after they can read independently & read out loud!
In cultivating writers, revise & revise & praise them !

In the age of screens, we have to learn to adapt too. Yea we can have healthy media choices. Learn to manage limited screen time & usage of electronic devices eg using e-learning tools, playing educational games. In fact some games are good for right brain training!
Parents pls be a media mentor: filter & guide!
