Happy International Poverty Eradication Day
International Poverty Eradication Day is celebrated on October 17 every year to spread the message of peace and love while honouring the victims of poverty, hunger, violence and fear.
As someone who has worked with refugees and homeless people , this day is very close to my heart. From Happy Bank Crew to Human Aid Selangor; what I saw there have changed my life. I remember waking up at 4 am with my team to cook for the homeless people. Soon as we arrived to the community however, it broke my heart to see children in hunger, having nothing else to eat while waiting for my team and I to deliver some food to them.
Of course, the important thing is not actually being there in person, but the ability to empathise. We need to take action together. I am so grateful to receive donation from generous group of people to help my charity work. A lot of individuals have contacted me personally, asking what they can do to help Happy Bank Crew and Human Aid Selangor.
There are different types of donation; some people contributed their help financially while some, contributed by being volunteers to help out in person. Those who can't be there have also help us by contributing tremendous support and love for all the work that we did.
As we celebrate this year’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, may our calls for social justice for those living in extreme poverty be amplified.
