Hello cả nhà, hôm nay mình rảnh được vài phút ngồi viết cho mọi người bài tham khảo speaking cho chủ đề về tên nha. Thoạt nhìn thì có thể hơi khó nghĩ ra một số từ vựng hay ho về chủ đề này nhưng mình cũng cố gắng rặn được vài từ 😆. Mọi tham khảo nhé, vì chủ đề này gần đây cũng thường được hỏi.
1. Who gave you your name?
Well, if memory serves me right, when I was born my parents were racking their brains trying to think of a unique name for me, but they couldn’t come up with anything to their liking, so they turned to my great grandma ‘cuz she was a woman of great wisdom. So yeah it was she who gave me my name and I love it to bits.
- rack one’s brains: suy nghĩ nát óc
- come up with: nghĩ ra
- N + to one’s liking: cái mà ai đó thích
- love something to bits: love something very much
2. What does your name mean?
Hmm, that’s an intriguing question. Actually I’ve never actually thought about what it means, but now that you ask, I suppose my name sorta means “respect” and “succeed”. Well, I guess my family has pretty high expectations of me. And to be honest, my name is kinda unique and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

- not…for the world: never / not in any situation
3. In your country, do people feel that their name is very important?
Definitely! For those residing in big cities I guess names are kind of a big deal to them. I got a feeling that people believe that good names bring good fortune so in most cases, parents do pay great attention to picking a name for their kid. But you know, in rural areas it’s the opposite. Parents give their children the most absurd names ever, the more bizarre the better. They believe that ugly names can ward off bad luck. I find it pretty funny actually.
- reside in: live in
- a big deal: cái gì đó quan trọng
- good fortune = good luck
- absurd = ridiculous (tức cười, lố bịch)
- bizarre = strange (lạ)
- ward off bad luck: chống lại xui xẻo / vận rủi
