Flattening The Curve: That Day on the Beach
最近重温電影的預告片。很高興再見這班演員舊友。
很驚訝是，當年的我們是如此年輕。大家一同開展旅程，往後又走上截然不同的道路。
當時的我不擅長打燈，感覺像燈照死物，沒打落角色身上。我雖是初哥，沒試過為演員打燈，但當我們去到海灘，藍天與海灘自然成了構圖，演員（大部份時間是張艾嘉）找到自己的空間和走動位置…
我發現自己沒有改變太多。至今最吸引我的，依然是發掘空間如何為電影注入能量，你作為一個藝術家如何跟空間產生聯繫，與它合作和交流，最終成就了每個人都會擁抱的空間，讓演員自然流露出輕鬆、孤獨又或是自信、害怕的感覺。
當人在空間走動，他們面對的處境成就了電影本身。
Recently I revisited the trailer for the film. Good to see old actor friends.
I wonder at how much younger we were. How is it that people who started on a journey together have takes such different paths of the way.
I notice to how I wasn’t so great at indoor lighting, it feels like I was lighting for content rather than character. Of course I was just beginning, and had never lit actors before. But then when we got to the beach, when the sky and the sea form the frame and the actors ( mostly Sylvia ) find their space, move the way they do …
I realize I haven’t changed much. What attracts me most, what I feel energises a film is how a space feels, how you, as an artist relate to it and work with and celebrate it, and finally how people embrace the space, how the actor feels at ease or alone or confident or scared.
What people do in a space, how they react to their situation to me is what gives a film its form.
