In my workshops, I teach this magical thing called "mama time". It's sacred, amazing, life-changing one-on-one time that will make a world of difference to your relationship with your little and their behavior.
Whether it's ten minutes or an hour a day, all you have to do is just be wholly present and let your little lead, have fun, laugh, play, enjoy each other.
It doesn't have to be fancy...in fact, it works out better if it isn't. No lesson plan, no agenda, no expectations, just time to bond.
For my wild child, some days, it's finding all the blankets and props and giggling through building a fort and playing peek-a-boo. Or maybe it's just turning on some music for a dance party or breaking out the bubbles. On quieter days, it might be reading her favorite books over and over and over again (I'll post in comments) while we snuggle and listen to each other.
If the weather is nice, her favorite thing to do is to ride her bike to the park in the evening and stopping to show mama and say hi to all the flowers and plants and doggies and friends along the way.
What this intimate special connecting time does is it helps them reset back to zero. The anxiety or stress of the day melts away as they play with you, and they nap better, sleep better, listen better, everything better.
It's you saying "I see you, I enjoy you, I love you" as you build legos or celebrate their tiny joys with them like making all the bear pieces fit just right or sing Baby Shark a hundred million times together.
That's really the secret to it all. Just have fun together.
And the best part is that it's a superpower you had all along....the power of being mama.
I wanted to post this today as a reminder to you if you're worried about what to do this weekend, or if you need permission to just breathe and be still and do nothing but just hang out together.
YES YES YES.
Play. Explore. Enjoy.
Make each other laugh. Soak it all in.
That's the magic...."mama". <3
