Recently I found a picture that my favorite drummer
Antonio Sanchez and his band "Migration" touring in Taipei in 2017. And few years ago I've seen his DVD and felt so inspired from these words. I decided to translate it into Chinese to share with other Chinese drummers.
There's maybe little mistakes because English is not my mother language.
---------------------------------
Some wise words from my all-times favorite drummer Antonio Sanchez from his DVD - "Master Series".
And the last things I wanna said, hmm, has a lot to do with attitude to work with music and musicianships. Hmm, When I was growing up, I was always dreaming of playing in a nice, tall, the biggest stadium and the biggest band with the greatest musicians in this world. And that’s great except that we all have to start somewhere. And I, all of a sudden, I was playing in a little bar, or small pub, or some restaurant, or a wedding where nobody was paying an attention. And I really felt depressed and I felt violated. And for example, I’ve been played for a wedding gig, and I would be playing “La Marcaena” for a hundred times , and I would be like “What am I doing here ?”, “Get me out of here, shoot me, this is not for me, I’m so much better than this !”
And I was not putting my heart into it at all. When the next day, I would play in some small bar, I was playing maybe swing or something that I really like, but nobody was paying an attention. Everybody was looking at the screen, the baseball game. And I would be like “Well, nobody is paying an attention, then I just gonna playing practice whatever I was working on yesterday.” And I was NOT in the moment, I was not listening to what the other guys were playing. And maybe the other guys were listening to me.
So, when I luckily started getting better and better opportunities music-wise, and the situations start getting a little more the manling. I realized that I did not have the concentration I took for me to be able to deal with some of the situations. Uh, for example when I started to play with Niels Pedersen in the late 90s, it was a very tense gig , it was just a trio, and every night I would end would headache , because I was not used to have a lot of concentration and focusing that much, for that amount of time.
I realize that I’ve wasted a lot of time not being into the music not putting my heart into it. Because, I mean I really feel like if a, you have two arms, two legs, and you are able to play , you are lucky already. And I think if you are playing in some small restaurant, or wedding, or whatever. You treat that situation like the best gig in the world in the most beautiful opera house or the biggest stadium, and you treat you felt the musicians like the greatest musicians you could play with. I think you are on the right path. You put your heart into it, and you give the music and musicians the respect they deserved. Then I can assure you really good things are gonna happen to you. So that’s it for me, thank you so much for coming, hope see you next time.

[ udn.com 聯合新聞網 專欄 / UDN Column] 淺談盤式甜點 / On plated desserts (desserts à l'assiette) (English below)

Sometimes I'd be really surprised about how quickly Taiwan catches up and creates food trends. Plated desserts (desserts à l'assiette) are of course new to Taiwanese people while for many, French pastries are still considered a novelty. But enjoying a plated dessert is surprisingly not difficult at all here. Lots of events organised by talented pastry chefs are taking place, and Taipei's even got a dessert restaurant where you're encouraged to taste a complete menu composed with desserts and pastries. So what exactly is a plated dessert and how a pastry chef conceive his/her dishes? And probably most importantly, where to enjoy them? Click on the following link and read the full entry (in Chinese).

Hidup di Taiwan. 🇹🇼
Setakat ni kalau aku tanya orang diorang suka ke tak duduk di Taiwan, semua cakap suka. Dan aku rasa benda yang sama. Selama ni aku tak ada apa persepsi pun tentang negara ni.
Even tak pernah terfikir pun nak jejak sini, apatah lagi tinggal kat sini. Tapi hampir 3 bulan aku duduk sini, aku boleh kata aku jatuh cinta dengan budaya kat sini. Gittewww haha.
So hari ni aku nak share sikit macam mana life dekat Taiwan, particularly bandar yang aku duduk ni, Kaohsiung.
1. Bandar yang selamat
Orang selalu kata kat Jepun kalau tercicir atau tertinggal barang kat mana2, pergi balik mesti jumpa. Rupanya ada satu lagi negara macam tu, Taiwan. Kalau tinggal phone atas meja, atau tercicir beg duit atau tertinggal beg.
Percayalah, korang pergi balik tempat tu, tak bersentuh! Tak ada orang akan ambil benda kau. Aku tak cakap 100% macam ni, tapi dah few people cerita dekat aku benda sama. And aku sendiri tinggal je barang unattended (tapi phone dengan beg duit bawak lah) hahaha memang takde orang sentuh.
So fenomena kat kedai kopi orang tinggal laptop ke phone ke tu biasa. Mula-mula aku tengok aku yang risau. Betul ke selamat ni? Tapi dah lama duduk sini, memang aku boleh confirm lah.
2. Orang local sangat peramah
Tak kira lah dalam bas ke, kat kedai kopi ke, people just come and talk to you. Ni pun awal2 aku rasa janggal.
Ada sekali tu ada aunty tu tengok je aku study Chinese, pastu datang tegur cakap tulisan aku cantik (cehhh ni je point dia haha) and start borak2 tanya dari mana lah apa. Ada gak pakcik ni nampak aku bawak ukulele keluar, datang lari kat aku semata2 nak tanya aku main ukulele ke. Tu je. Haha aku macam wowwww. Aku rasa kalau aku boleh cakap bahasa cina ni memang panjang ler aku borak dengan depa. 😂 Sayangnya bahasa cinaku masih level tadika.
But basically orang Taiwan ni memang peramah lah. Haha gitulah.
3. Bandar bersih, rakyat bertanggungjawab
Pelik tapi benar. Aku sangat amaze dengan toilet awam kat sini. Bersih dia tahap Jepun punya bersih. Serius tak tipu. Bandar dia pun, walaupun tak banyak tong sampah (sangat susah nak cari) tapi susah jugak nak jumpa sampah.
Sistem buang sampah kat sini pun lebih kurang Jepun, kena asingkan recyclable item dengan sampah biasa. So bila jumpa tong sampah tu memang akan ada 2 jenis.
Kalau pergi kedai makan, coffee shop atau fast food restaurant, korang akan nampak meja tu bersih je. Sebab people here self clean up. Benda tu macam sangat natural, sangat biasa, dah jadi habit.
Lepas makan ambil pinggan, sampah, buang and kemas meja. Effortlessly tau! Sambil borak2 sambil kemas.
Not sure. Tapi aku bersyukur. 😘 Sayang Taiwan.
5. Gaya hidup sihat
Aku rasa kat Malaysia kita dah boleh bayang kot kat taman tu selalu ada aunty2 uncle2 Chinese buat exercise, bawak anjing jalan2 atau ber taichi. So it's the same here. Aku rasa orang Taiwan ni memang sihat2. Umur 50-60 tahun tu rilek je panjat bukit waktu weekend. Bukan seorang dua, ramai kot!
Kat uni aku ni biasa court, padang penuh dengan orang bersukan. Which aku sangat sukaaaaa. Inspired nak bersukan jugak hehe.
6. Transportation
Transport di sini sangat efficient. So jangan risau. Bas, MRT, Tren, dan speed train. Sangat mudah nak bergerak ke mana2. Jalan2 around city pun boleh naik basikal. Totally safe! Paling jauh takat ni 6 km berkayuh tapi ada plan nak kayuh gi bandar lain. Haha tengok lah camne.
Btw banyak bandar kat Taiwan pakai public bike free for the first 30 mins. Except Taipei kena bayar 10 ntd (RM1.30) untuk first 30 minutes. Kalau nak drive disarankan ada IDP sebab lesen Malaysia tak sah kat sini.
7. Beautiful places
Tempat2 cantik jangan cerita lah. Sini kalau nature lover memang akan enjoy duduk sini. Dia punya view gunung lawa, pantai cantik. Historical places pun best nak visit.
8. Makanan
As a Muslim duduk sini mencabar sikit lah. Tapi sikit je sebab sering mengidam Mekdi, Kepci. Dah 3 bulan tak merasa makan burger dengan ayam goreng k! 😢
Tapi untuk cari makanan halal tu tak susah. Kebanyakan bandar kat sini ada restoran halal. If not pun boleh opt for makanan vegetarian. So takat ni memang takkan kebulur duduk sini.
Aku takde apa nak complain pasal negara ni. Such a nice county to live in.
