大阪出身。幼少の頃よりピアノを学び、15才でギターを始める。2002年頃からライブ・サポート、セッション・ギタリストとしてのレコーディング参加（近年ではクリス・ハート、JYJジュンス（ex.東方神起）、すとろべりーぷりんす（すとぷり）、今井麻美、所ジョージなど）、プロとしての活動を開始。2006年、ブルージィなスタイルを生かして、すべての作曲／アレンジ／プログラミングを担当したブルース・ギター・インスト・アルバム『Mojo Tribe』を発表。ギター・インストラクターとしての活動も行っており、プロアマ問わず1000人以上のギタリストへの指導経験を持つ。ギター＆ベース教則本やギター誌講座の執筆活動の他、楽器メーカーのアドバイザーとして新製品の開発にも携わり、デモンストレーション演奏やクリニックでも国内外にて活動。

アーティスト / ギタリスト
エレクトリックギターをピックを使わずに全て指で弾くという独自の“スラップ奏法”でギタリストとして世界中から注目を集め、これまでに約30カ国350公演以上のライブと共に、8度のワールドツアーを成功させている。
昨年4月にアルバム『Holy Nights』が全世界同時リリース。昨年9月には配信EP『Holy Nights (Lockdown 2020)』と配信シングル「Over The Rainbow」もリリース。「どんな状況でも音楽を止めない」と宣言しているMIYAVIが新しい試みとして、バーチャルプロジェクト ”MIYAVI Virtual” を始動させ、全世界に向けVRやXRなど進化した5本のバーチャルライブを展開した。
アンジェリーナ・ジョリー監督映画「Unbroken」（2016年日本公開）で俳優としてハリウッドデビューも果たした他、国内では「BLEACH」「ギャングース」、国外では「コングー髑髏島の巨神」「マレフィセント２」（２０１９年１０月日米同時公開）への出演、今年9月にはNetflix「KATE」も配信開始される。

映画『Mission: Impossible ‒Rogue Nation』日本版テーマソングのアレンジ制作、HONDA コマーシャル楽曲、SMAPへの楽曲提供をはじめ様々なアーティスト作品へ参加するなど、国内外のアーティスト/クリエイターから高い評価を受けている。2017年にはUNHCR（国連難民高等弁務官事務所）親善大使に就任。
常に世界に向けて挑戦を続ける“サムライギタリスト”であり、ワールドワイドに活躍する今後最も期待のおける日本人アーティストの一人である。
