Thank you, Yahoo Sports Singapore (and my interviewer Cheryl!) for this write-up on my fitness journey.
I never really opened up about the time when I had an eating disorder but I realized it was quite an important period in my life when I learned a valuable lesson about self-image and health. Nobody plans to be controlled by an eating disorder. For me, it was an easy but flawed way to cope with my own insecurities about my body and punishment for not following the "diet rules".
We are socialized to believe that the presence of fat on our bodies is an indication of weakness and that we can control our lives by controlling our bodies. I'm grateful I was able to overcome this mistake as I chose to be healthier and stronger both in mind and body.
Good health is not about being 'skinny'; it's about striving to feel better, inside and out.
