Space closure is one of the most common cases I come across. In most patients, we would opt for orthodontic (braces) treatment if they are suitable candidates. But for some instances, patient might insist on other options due to personal reasons. Let’s continue this at the end of this post.
In this case, patient had an unpleasant experience where her old composite veneers done elsewhere were all linked together, giving her a lot of discomfort and pain. After removal and discussion (which of course, includes “the ortho persuasion”) , she has decided to get veneers re-done for space closure due to past dental trauma.
She can now smile happily with more confidence (and hopefully, a better dental experience🤞🏻), and I’m always happy when my patients are happy.😊
Now, if you’re a patient and you’re looking at this, please bear in mind that not everyone is a suitable candidate for direct veneers for space closure. ALWAYS consult & discuss with your dentist for the best treatment option for you.
As for the dental students who drop me DMs on cases you come across on social media (yes I do read through your DMs😆), I believe we can learn a lot from cases on social media, but bear in mind that the teeth of the patient does not “belong” solely to the clinician, but the patient themselves. There might be a lot of stories, personal experiences and emotions behind a patient’s smile when they come looking for your help. So be fair, treat them like how you would treat your parents, and be the kind of dentist you would wish to come across.

It'a been a year since the big girl started on her Ortho-K journey and we are happy to update that she is still loving being specs-free and enjoying perfect eyesight! Woohoo!
In fact, this active girl who loves to dance, loves the beach and loves outdoor activities says that she never ever wants to wear specs again. Haha. Well, maybe except when she has sore eyes and has to skip wearing her lens for a night.
For those who don't know, Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, is the use of specially designed and fitted contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea in order to improve vision. It is a surgery-free method to mainly correct myopia, or short-sightedness. Ortho-K lenses are worn at night to reshape the front surface of the eye while you sleep and they are described as "braces for the eyes".
She has totally gotten accustomed to her daily routine and doesn't take more than 10 minutes to remove her lens in the morning or put them on before bedtime. We are truly glad to have embarked on this journey with Eyesight.sg and thankful for the wonderful service they provide during every review. It was also awesome hearing how our friend recently did it for her 9yo daughter too and was incredibly amazed to see how her eyesight became 6/6 within a month. Yup, it always makes me happy to know that our recommendation worked well for others too.
As a mum, I am happy seeing her big smiles and knowing that she loves her life. To my girl, it's okay that we have small eyes hor, we just want them to be healthy and our vision to be clear. Continue enjoy being specs-free and remember to practise good reading habits, yeah? Love ya! ❤

For this video, we headed down to Mischief at Esplanade to complete a 5KG Viking Meat Platter! With the recently released Assassin Creed Valhalla, we were inspired to find and devour a Viking-themed platter, and Mischief generously offered us their food with a bit of customisation. Mischief is a bar/restaurant located at the Esplanade that serves American-Asian fusion food that you can pair with a large variety of alcoholic beverages.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla attempts to be historically authentic, immersing you into the 9th Century Viking experience as a raider in England. Together with the classic features of the Assassin’s Creed series such as stealth and assassinations, you will find yourself building your clan and amassing resources as a conqueror in a realm ripe with wealth for the taking.

For this 5KG Viking Platter, we had to make do with what was available at Mischief while trying to Viking-ise the platter as possible. We added BBQ Baby Back Pork Ribs, Sliced Beef Brisket, Angus Beef Short Ribs, Pork Sausages, Smoked Salmon and a whole BBQ Chicken for the protein. Then for some diversity and colour, we placed Garlic Bread, Green and Red Grapes, Sauerkraut, Grilled Corn and Cherry Tomatoes onto the Viking Platter. The result - a beautifully vibrant plate of food fit for a Viking King.
In line with the Viking-theme, I dressed up in a fur-clad Viking suit to complete this challenge, but it became too hot so I had to remove part of the outfit. The food was delicious, especially the Beef Brisket and BBQ Chicken. The Asian-American fusion came through stunningly, with the chicken being slightly sweet and very moist with notes of turmeric and other Asian spices. The Brisket was extremely tender with a deep “meaty” flavour that can only come from hours of slow-cooking to concentrate the flavour. I completed the Viking Platter with little difficulty other than the sweltering heat.

For this video, we were challenged by Funan to complete 4 separate food challenges within 30 minutes! Funan is a mall located in the heart of the Civic District that combines retail, office and living spaces for a unique experience. Throughout this mall run, we did challenges at Kebabs Faktory, Butter Bean, Tonkotsu Kazan and BaWangChaJi.

The lamb and chicken from Kebabs Faktory were heavily spiced and scented while also tender, with our choice of garlicky and slightly spicy sauces complementing the meat well. Butter Bean’s fish sandwich came with an excellent thousand island dressing and the fish was pleasantly crispy on the outside while remaining moist and flaky on the inside. The ramen from Tonkotsu Kazan came with an extremely generous portion, loaded with tons of beef and vegetable goodness. The signature volcano was also interesting as it is actually used to cook the meat mound piled on top of the noodles. BaWangChaJi’s Dark Mountain drink’s whipped cream was to die for and extremely addictive. It was not cloyingly sweet but just right with bits of caramelised nuts folded in.
Due to the time needed to prepare the food and set up our equipment at each location, the challenge was a lot harder than expected and I did it in just under 30 minutes. The food and drinks were all extremely good, with the standout ones already mentioned above. We did not even cover even half the available F&B at Funan for this challenge, so there are many more options for you to try there.
