=================================
--------------------------------------------------
1) Make out
--------------------------------------------------
と聞く場合は「Can you make out that sign?」、その質問に対して「遠すぎて見えないよ」と返事をする場合は「It’s too far. I can’t make it out.」
Tom and Lisa are making out!(うわ!
<例文>
What does that sign say? Can you make it out?
I couldn’t make out what he said. Did you catch it?
I heard Peter and Megan were making out at the party last night.
--------------------------------------------------
2) Make it quick
--------------------------------------------------
使い方はhurry upと似ており、例えば電車が出発する間際に友達が「I have go to the bathroom.(トイレに行かないと)」と言ったときに、「Make it quick. The train is leaving in 5 minutes.(急いでね。 「すぐに済ませるから」は「I’ll make it quick.」
<例文>
A: Do I have time to get changed?
B: Yeah, but make it quick. The show is starting in 20 minutes.
A: Do you have a minute? I know you’re busy. I’ll make it quick.
B: Yeah, what’s up?
--------------------------------------------------
3) Make sense
--------------------------------------------------
は「Does it make sense?」、「ええ、理解できました」は「Yeah, that makes sense.」
<例文>
That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.
That makes sense. No wonder he was so upset.
What she’s saying doesn’t make sense. She’s contradicting herself.
--------------------------------------------------
4) Make up
--------------------------------------------------
例えば、「私はジョンと仲直りした」は「I made up with John.」、「マイクとマヤは仲直りした」は「Mike and Maya made up.」 I’ll make it up to you.」
例えば、「歌を作りました」は「I made up a song.」、「詩を作りました」は「I made up a poem.」
<例文>
They’re on good terms now. They made up with each other.

Wow, did you make up that song on the spot?
--------------------------------------------------
5) Make a difference
--------------------------------------------------
または「It doesn’t make any difference.」
<例文>
Writing down your goals really makes a difference. You should try it.

--------------------------------------------------
6) What do you make of
--------------------------------------------------
What do you make of ____ は相手の意見や考えを尋ねるときに使われ、 What do you think of ____ の言い換え表現として使われます。 は「What do you make of this?」、「あの映画についてどう思う?」は「What do you make of that movie?」
<例文>
What do you make of the idea she proposed?

--------------------------------------------------
7) Make a wish
--------------------------------------------------
<例文>
Happy birthday! Did you make a wish?

I made my Amazon wish list and emailed it to you.
(Amazon
--------------------------------------------------
8) Make fun of
--------------------------------------------------
「彼は彼女をからかった」と言いたい場合は「He made fun of her.」

--------------------------------------------------
9) Make up one’s mind
--------------------------------------------------
Make up one’s mind と返事する場合は「I can’t make up my mind!」
<例文>
Did you make up your mind or are you still thinking about it?

--------------------------------------------------

You made my day!」 ちなみに、dayだけではなく「That made my week」、「That made my month.」、「That made my year」と言うこともできます。

1) Either way(どちらにしても〜だ)
=================================
「どっちでもいいよ」は“I’m fine either way. ”、「どちらにせよ、それは重要ではない」は“Either way, it’s not important. ちなみに、今日の会話で使われた“It could go either way.”
<例文>
I’m fine either way. I don’t have a preference.

=================================
2) Much the same(ほぼ同じ)
=================================
「私もほぼ同じです」は“I’m much the same.”といいますが、ネイティブはよく“I’m pretty much the same.” ちなみに、「全く同じである」はvery much the sameと言います。
<例文>
I’m much the same. I hardly ever eat fast food.

My schedule is pretty much the same as yours.
We have very much the same personality.
=================================
3) Nothing like(〜とは全然違う)
=================================
例えば、「発音が全然違うよ」は“It sounds nothing like that.”、「彼は全然私に似ていません」は“He looks nothing like me.” ちなみに、“There is nothing like ____.” 日常会話では、there isを省いて“Nothing like ____.”
<例文>
You look nothing like your older brother. Are you guys really siblings?
Tokyo is nothing like LA. It’s a completely different kind of vibe out there.
Nothing like an ice cold beer on a hot summer day.
=================================
4) Pretentious(気取った)
=================================

Pronunciation – Grammar – Content – Accent
✨ It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.

Today I’m talking with Luke Ranieri (@ScorpioMartianus) who literally speaks fluent Latin and conversational Ancient Greek. He’s part of a small community of speakers around the world who have kept the Latin language alive, even though as a native language of Ancient Rome it died out over a thousand years ago. For him, learning Latin is about the community but most importantly about accessing the huge body of literature, ancient and modern, written in Latin. It was really cool to hear him talk about the way that his ability to speak Latin has allowed him to empathize with ancient Roman literature at a much higher level.
We talked about what Latin sounded like and how he and people like him have accurately reconstructed the pronunciation — he’s not just making this stuff up! We also talked about learning Latin and the way Latin is taught in high schools in the U.S. and the U.K., and as you can imagine Luke certainly has a lot of thoughts about that! I studied Latin and Ancient Greek in high school and it was interesting to compare experiences with Luke.

Go to https://buyraycon.com/xiaomanyc for 15% off your order! Brought to you by Raycon. I’ve always wanted to learn a Native American language, but it’s been extremely difficult to find anyone with whom I could learn as most indigenous American languages are considered critically endangered or extinct. So a couple months ago I was extremely excited to get in touch with someone who could teach me Navajo, the original language of the Navajo people who live mostly in the Navajo Nation located in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Less than 200,000 people speak Navajo in the entire world. Navajo is hands down the hardest language I’ve ever studied, with extremely challenging pronunciation and one of the most complex grammatical systems of any extant language. It’s so complex that the language was used by the Navajo code talkers as the basis for a secret communication system during World War II.
But even though many young people no longer speak the language, the older generation often still does, and so after a month of studying the language and me and my crew’s COVID vaccinations we flew out to New Mexico to find locals to practice with. Thanks to Raycon for sponsoring this video and I’ll be donating 100% of the sponsorship profits to NavajoStrong, a nonprofit which supports the Navajo community. If you would like to find out more about or donate to NavajoStrong, you can find them at: https://www.navajostrong.org/
