Massive global container shipping line 'COSCO' fingered as major facilitator of Hong Kong's dirty shark fin trade. Yesterday the Hong Kong government proudly announced that it had seized a record 880 kilos (0.88 tonnes) of illegal hammerhead shark fin en route from Panama to Hong Kong, with Hong Kong as the final destination.
Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) has obtained the Bill of Lading which clearly shows the involvement of COSCO – one of the last remaining container shipping lines not to commit to implementing a 'No Shark Fin' carriage policy.

Massive global container shipping line 'COSCO' fingered as major facilitator of Hong Kong's dirty shark fin trade. Yesterday the Hong Kong government proudly announced that it had seized a record 880 kilos (0.88 tonnes) of illegal hammerhead shark fin en route from Panama to Hong Kong, with Hong Kong as the final destination: http://bit.ly/29ncufG
Oceanic Preservation Society (OPS) has obtained the Bill of Lading which clearly shows the involvement of COSCO – one of the last remaining container shipping lines not to commit to implementing a 'No Shark Fin' carriage policy: http://bit.ly/29px3tF
A WWF Hong Kong report released in May 2016 confirmed that 16 out of 20 of the world's container shipping lines are now shark free, and COSCO was not on that list: http://bit.ly/1NT22y4
Complementing the work that WildAid has been doing to secure bans on shark fin cargo from over 35 global passenger airlines, WWF has worked with most of the world's major container shipping companies to secure total bans on shark fin shipping. This has resulted in the majority of international container shipping lines now banning shark fin 100%.
Exactly where the hammerhead shark fins came from before Panama is anyone's guess, and the matter is still under investigation by the Hong Kong authorities. But what is known from tracking the container on COSCO's own website is that the shark fins passed through Houston, Texas, on their way to Hong Kong: http://bit.ly/29mSmg8
A ban on the shark fin trade took effect in Texas last Friday, making it the first state on the Gulf of Mexico coast to enact a ban on the trade, joining 10 other states, mostly on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. The law, passed with bipartisan support in the Republican-dominated legislature, makes it a criminal act to buy, sell, or transport with the intention to sell shark fin.
What the Bill of Lading also reveals is that the 880 kilos of CITES-listed hammerhead formed part of a much larger shipment of 4.9 tonnes of shark fin, shark tails and fish maw: http://bit.ly/29px3tF
According to WildAid, quoted in South China Morning Post SCMP, "This bust proves that no container shipping line or airline can ensure that outlawed fins are not being concealed inside shipments of other, identical looking, non-outlawed shark fins. As such we urge COSCO and FedEx to commit to a shark-free carriage policy immediately, in order to steer their trusted brands away from reputational risk and to protect sharks from extinction.” http://bit.ly/29t7ad2
The situation in our oceans is urgent. And that's why now is the time for FedEx– and COSCO – to also step up and commit to protecting sharks and our oceans.
Therefore we urge:
-COSCO and FedEx to STOP shipping shark fin with immediate effect.
-COSCO and FedEx to operate their business morally, ethically and legally.
OPS commends the hard work and dedication of the Hong Kong authorities, notably the Agriculture Fisheries and Conservation Department and Hong Kong Customs, for their hard work and dedication in successfully tracking and eventually busting this record large shipment of endangered hammerhead shark fin from Central America. END THE WAR ON SHARKS! #RacingExtinction

By Simon Hradecky, created Saturday, Mar 8th 2014 01:10Z, last updated Saturday, Mar 8th 2014 03:02Z
An Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration 9M-MRO performing flight MH-370 from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Beijing (China) with 227 passengers and 12 crew, was enroute at FL350 over the Gulf of Thailand in contact with Subang Center (Malaysia) when radar and radio contact was reported lost with the aircraft at around 02:40L (18:40Z Mar 7th). The aircraft would have run out of fuel by now, there have been no reports of the aircraft turning up on any airport in the region.
The airline confirmed the aircraft is missing, a search and rescue operation has been initiated. Subang Air Traffic Control reported at 02:40 local Malaysian time, that radar and radio contact with the aircraft had been lost.
Search missions have been launched along the estimated flight track of the aircraft from Gulf of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos to China (South China Sea).
China reported that the aircraft did not enter Chinese airspace (editorial note: which effectively discounts rumours and false reports by a Malaysian outlet of the aircraft having landed in Nanning (China)).
Nanning Airport stated the aircraft did not arrive at the airport.
According to The Aviation Herald's radar data the aircraft was last regularly seen at 17:22Z (01:22L) about half way between Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) at FL350 over the Gulf of Thailand about 260nm northnortheast of Kuala Lumpur 40 minutes into the flight, followed by anomalies in the radar data of the aircraft over the next minute (the anomalies may be related to the aircraft but could also be caused by the aircraft leaving the range of the receiver).
Aviation sources in China report that radar data suggest a steep and sudden descent of the aircraft, during which the track of the aircraft changed from 024 degrees to 333 degrees. The aircraft was estimated to contact Ho Chi Minh Control Center (Vietnam) at 01:20L, but contact was never established.

The Baiyun International Airport on the northern outskirt of Guangzhou.
The station will function mainly as a connection to the airport. In the future, airline passengers will be able to transfer to the Wuhan-Guangzhou Railway Station after landing.
New train station in Panyu to bundle Guangzhou and Foshan
The new Guangzhou Train Station is also being constructed in southern Guangzhou's Panyu. A key project of the Guangzhou-Foshan Package Development project, it will serve the Pearl River Delta and South China, Wang said.
The station will feature a massive open plaza that will be accessible from the front and rear to facilitate passengers and traffic.
There will be metro lines, expressways and roads from Guangzhou and Foshan connected to the station.
Guangzhou and neighboring Foshan will be integrated in three places -- Fangcun (west), Nansha (south) and the Baiyun Airport (north).
