"European bakery and greetings when buying things"
In Taiwan when we are at the counter, we rarely speak or just ask the price of our purchase. However, in Europe ppl always greet to the cashiers like Hallo in German and Bonjour in French. Some friendly cashiers will even chat with you for a while. Before you leave, ppl will also say Tschüss (Ciao) and Schönen Tag(Have a nice day!) or French Bonjournée.
At the beginning I don't get used to this greetings, so Fabian reminds me several times. When you don't greet them, they might think you are impolite. So when you come to Europe, plz don't forget to say hello and goodbye to them:)
European bakeries usually put their bread in the shelves and customers can choose from them. But you have to tell the staff which one you like and they will collect for you into one paper bag. Also, they have self-service bakery which you need to line up and go along the shelf to pick your bread and then the end of the line is the cashier.
