This post goes out to a very special person in my life. Someone I had the privilege of meeting for the very time a decade ago. I was looking to hire the first staff for my brand SF by Sazzy Falak and my good friend @surayasharifuddin helped interview a few candidates. I trusted Sue’s judgement very much and when she said she had a good feeling about this young girl, I believed her and hired that young girl right away. Fast forward 10 years later, not only is she a big part of my life but all of my children’s too. When she started working with me, my daughters were less than a year old. She worked with me at building my brand and at the same time played babysitter with the girls since babyhood. She left SF years later to venture into other things but we always kept in touch. We’d meet up for coffee, celebrate birthdays, sent silly memes and videos to each other, go out makan etc
.
This year, she joined our @womentum.life taskforce and once again we’re in each other’s faces 🤣 I believe (as @sarimahibrahim said) that everyone needs a Jaja in their life. Not only does she give joy and love, but she also provides calmness and stability. Don’t be fooled by her sweetness though. This woman is a go getter and she’ll go for what she wants a 100%!
.
I don’t know if I’ve ever said it enough but I love you like a sister and I am so so so thankful to call you a friend. If anyone tries so much to mess with you, you can bet I’ll come flying with kick 😆 And it won’t be only me, my three kids and even @nash_idrus will come flying with punches ready!
.
Thank you for being an amazing person Jaja. Words can’t describe how much you mean to me and my little family. You’ll always be our T Jaja 💜

How to overcome fear of speaking a language 🙈
(PS...new video coming on Monday about whether or not introverted language learners REALLY need to practice speaking or not ... keep your eyes peeled for that discussion!)
Anyway, here are some tips for overcoming fear in those situations where you do need to use a foreign language. 👀
1. Analyze the situation and go easy on yourself 🥰
Identify WHY you’re afraid of speaking a language. It could be because you’re too shy or because you don’t know enough vocabulary. If you use the wrong particle, grammar structure or word, what’s the worst that can happen? If people laugh at you, that’s a reflection of them as a person, not you.
2. Prepare vocabulary and phrases in advance ✍🏽
When I was working as a design intern at a Japanese company, I was really scared that I wouldn’t understand anything during meetings and presentations. It helped me a lot to look up words I suspected I might hear during the internship. I built vocabulary lists and example sentences of design-related vocabulary. You can’t find a textbook for every topic, so taking matters into your own hands and creating your own language learning materials boosts your confidence.
If you cannot remember or don’t know a word, you can always talk around the word and describe it in another way. If you don’t know the word for “cake” for example, but you know the words “sweet” and “food”, you can say “sweet food” and they might say “cake?” in return.
3. Practice beforehand 💬
Just like practicing a speech for a presentation, you can practice using new words and phrases in a safe environment until you’re ready to use it with a native speaker. This could be talking to yourself, a pet, a chatting partner online, or a tutor. My favorite method is talking to people on voice apps. When I can’t see someone’s face and they can’t see mine, I feel less ashamed of making mistakes.
4. Record yourself 🎥
You'll hear your mistakes easier and be able to correct them if you need to, but you'll also gain confidence over time hearing that you aren't actually as bad as you think you are! You can use sites like Forvo to hear a native pronunciation or ask a native speaker friend you trust to correct you first, if you like.
5. Relax ☺️
Remember not to take language learning too seriously. Your goal is to communicate with others, right? It’s counter-effective to worry about using the right words and grammar each time you try to say something. And it's always OK if you prefer to do other activities rather than speaking - we all learn languages for different reasons and if you prefer reading books and watching movies, that's totally fine too 💕

Puffin café

Puffin café is in front of Love Lane, but this street is in the corner, very quiet, it is difficult for travelers to find it. Thanks to a veggie friend from Macau, who brought me here last year, since then, it becomes my must-go restaurant in Macau. Although they provide meat, egg, milk cuisines, the vegan dishes are so delicious that you couldn't imagine. Because the boss himself is a vegan, he is very detail-minded about the vegan dishes.
Every time I come, they will tell me the Special of the day. This time I have a Mushroom Risotto. Since I have been to Europe, I love risotto very much. The risotto here will not be too hard or too soft. It is just so good.
Spaghetti with organic Soya Milk is the one I must order every time. I was very surprised when I first had it. It was delicious and I couldn’t describe by words. Maybe it was because that was the first time eating noodles cooked with soy milk. I even try to make my own soy milk noodles at home recently!
I also ordered a snack - Baked Stuffed Portobello, the boss helped me to use bread crumb to replace the cheese on the top, the smell was sooooo great, and the mushroom itself is sooo juicy.. Although it takes 15 minutes, it is definitely worth to wait~
Drink, another must-order one - Avocado Shakes, very creamy, and with my favorite avocado smell, so tasty!
*Puffin is a kind of bird. I call it the Icelandic bird, because I saw a lot of souvenir of it in Iceland. But the boss told me actually Ireland (the country that I lived for a year) also has Puffin, in the King of Kerry. The boss is from Hong Kong, grow up in Ireland, now living in Macau. Every time I walked into the restaurant, saw the puffins on the wall, and saw the boss, it reminds me the good old days in Ireland~
