My auntie in KL just dig out this very old picture of me! Suddenly I felt a huge sense of appreciation and thankfulness.❤️😇🙏
.
I wasn’t come from a well to do family, I lived in a wooden house that no flush toilet 🚽 and I had to walk a few minutes to a public toilet from my house to do “big biz”😅 I think most of my friends won’t have this “smelly dirty” experience. And couldn’t imagine what I am talking about the “smelly dirty” situation. Good for you!
.
But I remember, as a little girl, I never feel I lack of anything, I was easily happy & laugh! Just feed me delicious food will do😄😋 So, happiness can be a very simple things to get! Be contented with what we have 😊 And of course, I have to thank God for his faithfulness😇 Without God’s mercy & grace I won’t be the same as today! 🙏❤️

There's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. You just need to take the little step that’s right in front of you, and then the next one, and a few years down the track, they will seem like massive achievements.

I didn’t meet my father until I was 6 years old. My parents had a comfortable, middle-class life in Shanghai, or as close as you could get under communism. But they always wanted to live overseas, and just before I was born, my dad came to Sydney to set things up. I don’t know why, but in the end, my mother and I didn’t join him until I was 6.
•a middle-class life 中產階級生活
•set things up 打點一切
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Unfortunately, half a year after we arrived, he left us. That was a huge shock. Our transition had already been quite difficult, as we both didn't speak English. Also, as Shanghai was such a big bustling city, Sydney felt a bit like the countryside, especially on the weekends, as no shops were open back then!
•shock 令人震驚的事件(或經歷);驚愕,震驚 (come as a great shock 讓人倍感震驚)
•a bustling city 繁華都會
★★★★★★★★★★★★
We were very much reliant on my dad, not only financially, but also as a conduit into the wider community. So to have that broken was quite distressing. I remember Mum crying a lot. As we had become socially isolated, we didn’t find out anything about Centrelink, so we survived on her savings for a while, and then got some help from her family back in China.
•be reliant on…
•a conduit into 進入...
•distressing (adj.)
•survive on her savings
★★★★★★★★★★★★
Eventually, Mum moved us down to Melbourne, where we were able to make some new networks and family friendships. But I was bullied a bit at school about things like my food and clothing! Whenever someone bullied me, I would defend myself, but because I didn’t have the language skills to explain to the teacher why, I got in trouble quite a bit. I ended up having to move school 3 times before I came to Balwyn Primary School, which was relatively multicultural.
•be able to 能夠
•make new networks 建立新的人脈,關係網
•be bullied 被霸凌
•get in trouble 惹上麻煩
★★★★★★★★★★★★
After that, I did alright. Music featured very prominently in my life. I had started learning the violin from the age of 2.5 years old and even with all the troubles that were going on in my life, had somehow still kept up with it. As a result, I got a music scholarship to Trinity Grammar School. But even there I used to get into quite a lot of mischief, and would often skip school to go to the movies.
•feature (v.)
★★★★★★★★★★★★
By the end of year 11, I was told I would have to either repeat the year, or consider going to another school, which was quite humiliating for my mum. I decided to move school and surprisingly, I ended up doing quite well in year 12! As a result, I ended up getting into a double degree in Law and Music at Monash.
•repeat the year 留級 ; 重唸一年
★★★★★★★★★★★★
When I started, my first thought was that I didn’t belong because I had done so badly in school up to year 11 and everyone else seemed so smart. But I put my head down, got through it, and ended up getting a job in the legal department of a major manufacturing company, which was a different approach to what most law students do.
•do not belong 不屬於這
•put my head down 埋頭苦幹
•the legal department of ...
•a different approach 不同途徑
★★★★★★★★★★★★
I really enjoyed it. It was hard work, but I learned a lot of foundational business, legal and corporate communication skills. After that I worked in corporate governance in RMIT, then started to moonlight as a lecturer in the Law Faculty. Eventually, they asked me if I wanted to do a PhD and I blindly said yes! I next worked at Swinburne University, and then was head-hunted to lead the corporate legal team at the Commercial Passenger Vehicles Commission.
•corporate governance
•moonlight (v.)
•headhunt (v.)

I had a good life, but after a while, I realised I wanted a different kind of job. I could see my seniors were making a lot of money but that their family life was not that good. And looking at my own upbringing, I wanted to be the kind of father who could be present in my own kids’ lives. So I decided on dentistry. It would not only allow me to use the hand skills that I had developed from playing the violin, but also the analytical and reasoning skills that I'd developed in law. Plus it would be flexible, and offer me a stable income and the chance to meet different people every day!
•analytical and reasoning skills
•offer a stable income

My now fiancée, who was my girlfriend at the time, was also applying for further study, and coincidentally we both got into university in South Australia, so we moved to Adelaide together a few years ago.
•fiancée 未婚妻
•at the time 當時
•apply for 申請

I was lucky to get a university job at Flinders University. Initially, I started out as a casual lecturer in the law school, but I’ve since transitioned into teaching health law and research, and I’m currently writing a few books on the intersection between law and medicine. And also, obviously, trying to finish my dentistry degree!
•start out as…
•transition into…

Mum eventually retrained as a Chinese high school teacher, and she’s still teaching to this day. Like most first generation migrants, she struggled quite a lot, and invested heavily in my success. After we’re married, my fiancée and I are planning to have children, and I’m sure they will have it much easier than I did.
•to this day 至今
•have it much easier

Still, a lot of the failures that I’ve had in my life have really informed a lot of my successes. Looking back, I wouldn't really want to change that to have a smoother life.

•have a smoother life 有一個更順遂的人生

Over the years, I've learned that perseverance is very important. I hope that through telling my story, I can be an example to others who might be in a similar position as I was: to show that there's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. You just need to take the little step that’s right in front of you, and then the next one, and a few years down the track, they will seem like massive achievements.
•over the years 多年來
•be an example 成為榜樣
•be in a similar position
•down the road/line/track

Water is Coming to you
“He said, “Yahweh says, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’ For Yahweh says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals. This is an easy thing in Yahweh’s sight. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. You shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’” In the morning, about the time of offering the sacrifice, behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water. Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, young and old, and stood on the border. They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood. They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the plunder!” When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land attacking the Moabites.” (2 Kings 3:16-24 WEB)
The Israel army coalition had no water to drink for seven days. They were thirsty and asked the prophet Elisha to inquire of the Lord Yahweh.
The Lord’s instruction was to make the valley full of trenches, in preparation to collect the water.
Yet you may wonder where is the water going to come from if there is no wind or rain?
Sometimes, when the Lord asks you to get into position, just do it without trying to reason it out.
He said to make the valley full of trenches, meaning GET READY TO RECEIVE.
How much water do you want to catch? The more trenches you dig, the more water you will store, if not the water will come, but it will just flow away.
The Lord allows you to choose how much you want to act upon His rhema word. If you have faith, you will make the valley of your life full of trenches, ready to receive from Him.
The water came by the way of Edom. It is not your job to know how the water comes. The point is, the water WILL come because the Lord has commanded it.
The water had a double purpose for the Israel coalition. It satiated their thirst, and it also became an important military tactic used by the Lord to defeat Israel’s enemies.
The water that you collect in the coming days will enable you to defeat enemies in your life.
Everyone’s “trenches” are different—you will know what yours is. Whatever the Lord has put into your heart to do, remember that you can choose how much water you will collect, based on how many trenches you make.
Do not waste time questioning, “How will the water come? How is it possible?” The water is coming so it is time to get in position!

Back in the days, around the time when YouTube was founded, before most of you were born, I used to Vlog a lot. I was a little ahead of my time because video sharing platforms were premature back then. I Vlogged so that I can remember my experiences back then. You'll get to know me better if you actually spend the time to watch this. If you do have the patience.
Episode 10 - Winter 2005
This was my first snow in USA. I've seen snow before in China, Japan and a few other countries. It was amazing. My school is located very far from big cities, our water is crystal clear, so is our snow. My good friend, Paris, made me a Malaysian instant noodle called Maggi Curry, and it made me cry. Having such comfort food in a faraway land in the snow, was heavenly.
I've friends all around the world, different races, different religion, different skin color, different languages, and I was also a part of this organization called ICE (International Cultural Experience). From here, we've learnt to respect each other's skin color, religion, language, race (very different from the toxic YouTube comment section today, where keyboard losers without profile pictures are sending hate hiding themselves from their own miserable lives, don't you agree?)
If you've got friends from another race, religion, culture, skin color, cherish them. Consider it a huge blessing. There are many things you guys can learn from each other. Learn to be a little less toxic and make this world a better place.
I spoke a few languages in this video, be sure to turn on captions.

Do you remember my TED Talk, 'Do You Speak The Future?' Well, here’s another surprise…the day right after my TED Talk, my Latin teacher invited me to give another talk at the Anagnostics Society, the school’s Classics society! I was overjoyed, of course, but not just because of the invitation. What was so ironic about this is that I had been wanting to join this society for a long time, but I wasn’t able to because it was only open to students in the upper years, and I wasn’t old enough to enter. Yet here I was, being honoured with an invitation to give a talk at that same society! The Almighty really had planned the best for me - Alhamdulillah!
The talk was an expansion of my TED Talk topic, and I included an extra crash course in linguistics and conlanging (how to make your own language), presented in a workshop-style format. I got really positive feedback from the audience, as well as the teacher who invited me - he praised me for such a great talk, and he might have to invite me again for another talk to take an in-depth look at Tolkien’s languages! And the cherry on top was that he even awarded me with a Golden Book entry, both for my TED Talk and the talk I had given at the society - how truly humbling!
Needless to say, I was more than flattered. I also enjoyed giving the talk - one of the things that gives me most pleasure is being able to share and educate others about my passions! This truly was a blessing - indeed, even being rejected from the society in the first place was a blessing in disguise! In return, I was honoured with an invitation not only to give a talk, but to conduct a workshop as well! I am truly grateful for the opportunity to further widen my audience and carry on inspiring others by sharing my own passion.
I thank my teacher for being so trusting by honouring me with the invitation in the first place. I thank my friends and schoolmates who showed their support by attending. I thank my family for being my backbone all along. And above all, I thank Allah for bestowing countless opportunities upon me! May this be the start of many more blessed occasions to come in the year ahead…
Blessed,
O. Mukhtar O. Mukhlis

for my little lover...
and to everyone who needs a little more love ❤️
We all might feel stuck or lost in life sometimes, not knowing where we are heading...because we cannot see what is ahead of us...and we could feel worried, scared and frustrated....That's how I felt when my son was diagnosed with autism since he was a small boy....
Step by step, we walked together...and he is now a big boy who just turned 14 years old in July 2020...When I look back, I feel very proud of every baby little step we made together...Coz I didn't know but I just had to keep going for him, and for us. And now I know...the little steps could bring us together and farther ahead if we just keep going...There are still a lot of challenges ahead for us....but we will just keep walking...like we have always....not knowing where we are heading...
So I decided to make this animation video for my little lover. I wish, one day, when he can understands the world better, he will remember all the little things that meant to us...and he could feel the love in this little song that I wrote for him and this beautiful animation.
So...me and Little Lover Ethan would like to send you hope and love and blessings through this Little Song....

《A Little Song》
Music, Lyrics & Performed by Vicky Fung
Give me a little little love
It's been a little little tough
Hold me a little little close
To hear a story never told
Give me a little little time
Give it a little little try
Just give a little little more
Together walking through the door....
That's how I sing along
Daladada daladada
Ooo...hoo
Sing a little song
Daladada daladada
I've been away a little long
Sometimes it's right it could be wrong
I take a little little breath
And make a little baby step
This road a little little long
I sing this little little song
I grow a little little strong
You give me strength to carry on...
That's how I sing along
Daladada daladada
U...
Sing this little song
Daladada daladada
Oh......
I smile a little song
I cry a little song
Daladada daladada
Oh......
I taste a little song
I touch a little song
Daladada daladada
Oh......
I dance a little song
Daladada daladada
Oh.....
Breathe a little song
Live a little song
